Chapter 117 Could It Be Epilepsy?
"Why would you want to be a veterinarian? Why not just use these deceptive tactics to become an internet celebrity? You're also trying to destroy our profession as veterinarians. If you're caught, it'll be a disgrace to the entire veterinary profession."
"I don't know what the director was thinking. We already have a professional animal team, but they still recruit these unorthodox people from outside."
Zhao Yilin didn't mention Lin Ting in any of his words, but every word he said was an indirect criticism of Lin Ting.
"Your medical skills are not good, yet you have the nerve to laugh at others. Doctors like you are really just sitting in a well and looking at the world. If you had better medical skills and could cure these Capybaras, the director wouldn't have to invite us here."
Lin Ting was not angry. Instead, Bai Xi, who was following Lin Ting, couldn't help but jump up and started scolding Zhao Yilin.
Zhao Yilin dropped the instrument in his hand and puffed out his chest, yelling back, "Who are you calling incompetent? I'm one of the most skilled veterinarians in the industry. Many zoos are vying for me to work there, but I don't even bother. What's wrong with me saying you're liars for listening to animals' inner thoughts? Just go out and ask who believes you."
Bai Xi wanted to continue arguing, but Lin Ting grabbed his arm and gently shook his head, "Don't argue about these useless things. Medical skills are not for competition. Anyone who can cure these small animals is a good doctor."
Even though Lin Ting was holding her back, Bai Xi's face still turned red with anger.
Zhao Yilin was about to say something when Assistant Wu pulled him aside. "The girl didn't say anything, so you should be quiet too. The director invited Miss Lin here for a reason. Our priority now is to find the cause of Capibara's illness."
Zhu Ling took Lin Ting's hand and lowered her voice, "Sister Lin, please don't be angry. Doctor Zhao is just like that. He's extremely arrogant and looks down on all veterinarians."
"The director doesn't like Dr. Zhao either, but there are not enough veterinarians, and he hasn't found a suitable candidate, so he's using him for the time being."
"I don't take it to heart. Every doctor has his own temper." Lin Ting really didn't take it to heart. If she couldn't understand the voices of animals, she wouldn't believe what others said rashly.
"Take me to see Capybara first."
"I have heard from Assistant Wu about Capybara's condition. Did Capybara have any other abnormal conditions before he became ill?" Lin Ting followed Zhu Ling as he walked towards the other Capybaras, and did not forget to ask.
"I'm a Capybara breeder and I pay more attention to Capybara's condition than others. Before Capybara became ill, there were no abnormalities."
"Our park has full surveillance coverage. We checked the surveillance after the incident to try to find out what caused Capybara to become ill, but we didn't notice anything unusual. His food, drink, and daily necessities were the same as usual."
"Sister Lin, I still have a video of Capybara attack here. You can take a look at it." Zhu Ling said as she took out the previously filmed video of Capybara attack from the album and handed it to Lin Ting.
Zhu Ling also found some animal experts online and showed them the video she shot, but those experts were also unable to figure out the cause of Capybara disease.
For this reason, Zhu Ling has not returned home in the past few days. She lives in the park every day and gets up several times at night to patrol, trying to see if the Capybara is screaming because it is scared of something.
Lin Ting took the video shot by Zhu Ling and took a look at it.
In the video, Capybara fell to the ground and twitched constantly, with its four legs swinging back and forth. After twitching for a while, it calmed down and lay on the ground without any movement.
"Did you faint after the convulsion?" Lin Ting asked with a frown.
Zhu Ling nodded. "Yes, I wasn't completely dizzy, but slightly dizzy. My consciousness was hazy and I couldn't really be considered conscious."
"I was afraid it would be like epilepsy, where the more I touched it, the worse it would get. So when it happened, I didn't dare move. I just stayed by the side and watched quietly until the little guy was okay. Then I dared to go forward to check on him."
Lin Ting continued to ask, "Have you checked your nervous system?"
"We checked it the day after the onset of the disease and found no problems with the nervous system."
"Sister Lin, here is a video of a Capybara screaming at night." Zhu Ling said as she swiped to the side. It was a video of a Capybara screaming.
It sounded like he had encountered something scary.
Without waiting for Lin Ting to ask, Zhu Ling took the initiative to speak, "When I first noticed their strange screams, I thought they were frightened. I searched everywhere but found nothing. I even stayed in the monitoring room for two nights."
"I stared at it all night without blinking, but I didn't notice anything wrong. Even before Capybara started screaming, there was nothing unusual about him."
"Sister Lin, I'm having a terrible headache." Zhu Ling lowered her eyes, her expression filled with deep fatigue.
She hadn't had a good night's sleep since the Capibara incident.
Lin Ting was so focused on watching the video that she didn't pay any attention to her feet. She tripped and stumbled forward. If she hadn't reacted in time, she would have fallen to the ground.
Zhu Ling and Bai Xi stepped forward quickly and asked at the same time, "Sister Lin, are you okay?"
"It's okay." Lin Ting waved her hand. She turned around to look at the thing that almost tripped her. It was an electric wire buried in the soil, which had been lifted up at some point.
"Why is there an electric wire here?" Lin Ting asked casually.
"The electrician probably didn't bury it properly, so it stuck up because I walked around too much. Normally, other than the keepers coming in to clean, ordinary tourists can't come in, so I didn't notice it. I'll contact the electrician later and ask them to come and take care of it."
"Where do the wires go?"
Zhu Ling answered almost every question Lin Ting had. "The lights on the fences were from the zoo's anniversary celebration. We spontaneously made some lights to wrap around the fences. It was very atmospheric when we turned them on for a while in the evening. After the anniversary celebration, we didn't take the lights down."
"This wire is connected to the colored lights."
Lin Ting followed Zhu Ling's words and glanced at the wooden fences around him.
If you don't look carefully during the day, you can't see the colorful lights outside at all.
Soon Zhu Ling brought her to the place where the Capybaras were resting. Several Capybaras were huddled together in the sun. Zhu Ling pointed at one of them and said, "Sister Lin, that Capybara was the first to twitch and scream. Later, the other Capybaras also started to do the same."
"That Capybara is called Liuliu. He's usually quite docile, unlike the others who can be a bit naughty."
"Are there any apples?" Lin Ting asked in a gentle voice.
She came in so hastily that she didn't bring any food the animals liked.
"Yes, there are plenty in the warehouse. I'll get it now." After saying that, Zhu Ling ran to the warehouse to get what Lin Ting wanted.
