Chapter 144 Saving Wen Qiyu

"Alright! I will agree to whatever you say, Qingqing."

Shen Jinchen stared at Cen Xi, perfectly portraying his deep affection for her. His intense gaze made Cen Xi increasingly uneasy.

That restrained and aggrieved look made Cen Xi feel as if she had committed an unforgivable crime.

Cen Xi touched her nose, jumped up, and quickly walked out, fleeing in panic.

She had never experienced love in her previous life, and the marriages of Ms. Li and her two fathers had a profound impact on her, so she subconsciously did not believe in love.

In the past, some fearless boys would approach her, but she only needed to test them slightly to reveal their ugly faces.

In her eyes, all men are only after your beauty, and their ultimate goal is to sleep with you. Whether they want to take responsibility for you after sleeping with you depends on your value.

Therefore, she never believed in love.

But after Shen Jinchen got her in this way, he was still deeply affectionate towards her, which made her somewhat confused.

Her mind was in turmoil, and she had nowhere to vent her frustration, when a bluebird suddenly landed on her head and pecked at her.

Cen Xi exhaled an angry breath, grabbed the bird, and was about to crush it to death by any means necessary.

As luck would have it, I happened to see the letter tied to its leg.

"For the sake of your carrier pigeon reputation, I'll pluck a few feathers from you to atone for your offense."

Cen Xi pulled out the letter, glared at the bluebird with a bared smile, and plucked two tufts of feathers from it.

"Gaga, ya ya!"

The bluebird was furious that its feathers had been plucked. It chirped twice and couldn't resist trying to peck at Cen Xi's head.

Cen Xi waved his hand and grabbed it again, threatening:

"If you behave well, you'll still have a chance to live. If you don't, hmph, then don't blame me for stewing you. I'm sure Jun Jianchou won't feel bad about it, because... I remember he should have a lot of birds like you."

"Caw caw, coo coo."

The bluebird drooped its head in grievance, as if it were making a complaint, but it wisely compromised.

"That's right! You must remember that you are a bird, and never offend your master, understand?"

Cen Xi stroked its fur and then ruffled its drooping head, giving it a lecture.

Bluebird: "..."

"Stay in this yard for a while, don't run away. I also have a letter for you to take with you."

Cen Xi carried it all the way back to her yard. Seeing that it was much more obedient, she smiled and said something.

"Caw caw caw!"

The little bird looked at her as if to say, "I understand, you can let me go now."

"Go on, and behave yourself, or your master won't even see your corpse when he comes back."

Cen Xi released it, threatened it again, and went inside.

Upon opening Jun Jianchou's letter, Cen Xi's hand trembled, and the letter fell to the ground.

"I will be returning to Shangyang City soon, Cen Xi! Having seen countless sails, I still cannot forget you. Don't worry, as long as you never marry, I will not force you. I will come back, and we will celebrate the New Year together."

What is this? Cen Xi felt like she was doomed. Now that she was in a relationship with Shen Jinchen, she was afraid it would hurt Jun Jianchou.

She never imagined that after so much time had passed and despite her countless rejections, he still hadn't let go of his feelings for her.

"Though I've seen countless things, I still can't forget you," Cen Xi really wanted to ask Jun Jianchou:

"What is it about me that he likes me? I'll change, okay? Please don't hang yourself on this book, okay? I feel so guilty about this, but I can't reciprocate your feelings. What am I supposed to do with you?"

Why are you pulling your hair?

There were no lamps lit inside, and Cen Xi didn't like being served. After Qingyi was summoned by Shen Jinchen, she saw her young lady go to Young Master Xiao's courtyard, so she didn't follow and went straight back to her room to sleep.

"Who is this person?" Cen Xi exclaimed in surprise and quickly lit a tinderbox to look at the dark figure that resembled a female ghost.

"Don't make a fuss. It seems you're not fully recovered yet. Let Qingyi brew you another dose of medicine."

Zhu Yanniang rolled her eyes at her, turned around, went back to bed, and continued to sleep.

"Zhu Yanniang, what are you doing in my room?"

The light from the tinderbox finally allowed Cen Xi to see the person clearly. Seeing her climb into her bed so neatly and efficiently, Cen Xi quickly stepped forward and questioned her.

"Qingyi called me up here because you're sick. You're even infected with the plague. Go sleep in another room. I've been so busy with your Yichun Pavilion these past few days that I haven't had a moment to breathe. Now that you're sick, Qingyi dragged me out of bed to save you. If you have any conscience, don't bother me."

Zhu Yanniang pulled the blanket over her head and shooed them away in a muffled voice.

"You mean you cured me and Shen Jinchen of the plague?"

Cen Xi thought for a moment and realized that she seemed to have heard her mention that she knew medicine.

"Otherwise what? Since you know, show some appreciation and go sleep next door. By the way, now that you're awake, give some of your blood to that guy named Wen Qiyu. He seems to have contracted the plague as well."

Zhu Yanniang, still under the covers, retorted to Cen Xi, then remembered that besides Prime Minister Shen and that wretched woman, there seemed to be someone else infected with the plague, and that person wasn't as lucky as Cen Xi and Prime Minister Shen. Since she'd already shown a bit of saintly compassion, she might as well give them a little more pointers.

If she wants to save the woman, she can; if she doesn't, it's none of her business. The blood isn't hers anyway, so she won't feel guilty for not being able to save the person, nor will she feel regret for the blood she's given.

"Wen Qiyu has also contracted the plague? I'll go check on her."

Cen Xi never expected that Xiao Qiliang, that bastard, would not only target her and Shen Jinchen, but also Wen Qiyu.

Inside Wen Qiyu's courtyard, Cen Xi stared at Jiang Yu's face and quickly walked in. She saw the servant who usually followed Wen Qiyu lying listlessly on the threshold outside the door.

Cen Xi touched his forehead; it was very hot, indicating that he might have also contracted the plague.

Pushing open the door and entering the room, I walked to Wen Qiyu's window and saw that Wen Qiyu's face was flushed, clearly indicating that she had a high fever.

Cen Xi pulled out the dagger that was attached to her calf, cut her finger without blinking, and placed herself on Wen Qiyu's lips for him to suck.

Perhaps driven by a primal instinct for survival, Wen Qiyu didn't even open her eyes before instinctively sucking Cen Xi's blood.

After a short while, Cen Xi felt that was enough and withdrew her hand.

After glancing at the servant lying at the door, Cen Xi finally went back and drained a small bowl of blood, feeding it to the servant. After feeding him the blood, Cen Xi was afraid that her blood would be wasted, so she dragged the servant to the soft couch in Wen Qiyu's room.

After doing all this, Cen Xi went outside to feel the chilly wind and prepared to go to her own courtyard. However, as soon as she stepped out of the courtyard, she was intercepted by Feng Qin, the guard beside Shen Jinchen.

He said to her with a grin:

“Madam, the young master said that your travels and the cold weather could worsen your condition. He has prepared some medicine for you. Please drink some medicine and then go back to rest.”

"What is he planning to do now?"

Cen Xi asked warily.
