"You mean your aunt harmed your mother? She drugged your mother, and then your father punished her?"
Cen Xi continued to ask, resting her chin on her hand.
"Yes, my aunt originally thought that after my mother died, she could win over my father's heart. But when my father found out, he made her hang herself. So our mansion is quite small now. Besides my father, my sister, and me, we don't have many servants, so it looks rather deserted to you."
"You said you agreed to my request, wasn't that great? You could have been in charge of the household after you married me. But alas... never mind, let's not talk about it. Since I said I would let go, I really will. But you must respect yourself and not be fooled by that scoundrel. Before you get married, you'd better keep your distance from him."
Jun Jianchou swallowed a meatball whole, feeling somewhat resentful, but he knew he couldn't bring this up again, so he quickly stopped eating.
"Okay. It's nothing, I'll go now. I haven't slept for a day and a night, I need to go back to sleep quickly."
Cen Xi didn't want to say more and got up to leave.
“You didn’t seem to eat this morning, did you? Aren’t you hungry now? You can’t take care of someone without sacrificing your own health. Even though he saved you, even though… eat first, and after you eat, go to the guest room in my courtyard and take a nap. You promised me you’d stay with me all day.”
Jun Jianchou chewed on the not-so-delicious food, stared intently at Cen Xi, sighed, and said in a way that left no room for refusal.
"He... he's still injured. He was injured because of me. I want to go see him again."
Cen Xi gave an awkward smile. After the battle, the image of Shen Jinchen's injured state kept popping into her mind for a whole day and night. She felt empty whenever she saw him in good health.
"Are you going back on your word? Didn't you say no one could catch your eye? Even if you're thinking about him, you've taken care of him for a whole day and night and cooked all this food. Aren't you tired? Aren't you hungry? He doesn't care about you, but I do. Eat your food, go to sleep, and we'll talk about it tomorrow."
Jun Jianchou glared at her sideways, his handsome face full of coldness and sternness.
“I had some pastries in his room this morning, but actually… I’m not very hungry right now.”
Jun Jianchou's barrage of questions left Cen Xi somewhat at a loss for words. She seemed to be so preoccupied that she had genuinely forgotten to eat. Seeing Jun Jianchou eating, she didn't even think about eating herself.
"It's noon now, hurry up and eat, then go to sleep. I'll have Jiuyi prepare a guest room for you. You haven't seen him since he came back, have you? Although you're not his biological mother, his family has been kind to you after all, so you and your son should get together."
Jun Jianchou's eyes were cold; it was clear he didn't want her to leave now.
To avoid further conflict, Cen Xi could only keep her mouth shut and eat in silence.
After dinner, she was reluctantly led into a guest room by Jun Jianchou.
After brewing a pot of tea, Liu Jiuyi placed it on the table in front of him, gave him a cool look, and then planned to leave.
"you…"
Cen Xi opened her mouth as if to ask something, but she knew that this little brat had never liked her. So she didn't know what to say.
Where is my little sister, Xiaoyu?
Liu Jiuyi walked to the door, but finally stopped and asked.
“At Feifeng Mountain, A Xiang has been taking care of her.”
Cen Xi looked at him, walked to the table, poured herself a cup of tea, and then said.
"Now that you have someone you love, and since Grandmaster has entrusted my sister and me to Master, and you're not our biological mother anyway, let's leave it at that from now on."
Six-year-old Liu Jiuyi seemed to have grown up a lot after traveling for half a year. He no longer made things difficult for Cen Xi and became more independent. His words clearly indicated that he wanted to avoid any connection with Cen Xi.
"Fine! Anyway, you've always suspected I'm not your mother, and it turns out I am. So don't call me that anymore. As for Xiaoyu, even though you're her older brother, I suggest you respect her own wishes."
"A girl should be addressed by a female elder, Jiuyi. I can't say I'm a good mother, but I will definitely treat her well, like my own daughter."
Seeing his coldness, it was impossible for Cen Xi not to be heartbroken, but fate had brought them together, and this little brat had made his own choice, so there was nothing she could do about it.
"Okay, you can rest now, Xiaoyu. I'll ask for his opinion later."
Liu Jiuyi looked up and gave Cen Xi a cool look before closing the door.
Cen Xi sighed, chuckled softly, and then quickly took off her shoes and socks and went to bed. In no time, she was already fast asleep. Shen Jinchen had already woken up, and her worries had subsided, so she slept exceptionally well.
After Shen Jinchen and Jun Jianchou finished arguing, Jun Jianchou left coldly. He knew that Cen Xi would catch up with him, and he understood that it was impossible for Cen Xi and Jun Jianchou to be together. She chased after him just to make things clear.
In the morning, he let Shang Se take care of his medicine, meals, and daily life without feeling anything was wrong. However, by evening, the woman still hadn't returned. It was as if she had forgotten him. Shen Jinchen's deep, beautiful eyes grew even darker.
That evening, Governor Jun invited him to a banquet, but he declined, citing his inability to get out of bed.
He originally wanted to ask a couple of questions, but he always knew that woman didn't take him seriously, so after chuckling a few times, he closed his eyes and rested on the bed.
The pain and emotional torment of the night made him look even worse the next day; his face was as white as paper, and his lips were cracked like dry tree bark.
When Shangse came in to serve him early in the morning, he was so startled that he almost spilled the medicine outside.
"Young master, what's wrong? I'll go find Governor Jun right away!"
"Don't go! Go outside and find a carriage to take me to my villa!"
Shen Jinchen gave the order with his eyes closed. Ironically, in his twenty-odd years of life, he had never cared for that woman so much. How pitiful! He was all sincere for the dog, and he risked his life to save it, yet he could only move her for a moment.
"Young master, are you planning to leave?"
Shangse was overjoyed to hear this. He had never approved of his young master pursuing a woman so recklessly. That woman was heartless. Look, his young master was injured like this, and she didn't even come to keep him company last night. She was truly useless.
"Um."
Shen Jinchen responded, seemingly having made up his mind. He suddenly sat up and circulated his internal energy to try and regain his focus. Perhaps the divination performed by Monk Liaochen was truly wrong.
"What are you doing? Why did you get up so early with such bad injuries?"
Just as the two, master and servant, were lost in their own thoughts, Cen Xi appeared out of nowhere and went straight into the room.
Upon entering the room, he saw Shen Jinchen struggling to sit up and immediately flew into a rage.
Shen Jinchen and Shang Se were interrupted from their thoughts and turned around abruptly, only to see Cen Xi holding a bag of rice and looking at them with an angry expression, or rather, at Shen Jinchen.
