Chapter 16 Selling Paintings

"You can't leave, sir, you'd better bear with it."

The first wife touched her burning cheek and glared hatefully at her husband, whom she both loved and hated.

"Oh shit!"

When Wang the philanthropist saw that the woman really couldn't get up, he planned to struggle a few times and then go out himself. However, his body was like a lump of mud, and no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't get up.

So the two people who hated each other were forced to stay together and curse each other. They only stopped when they were tired of cursing.

Meanwhile, after Cen Xi returned to the house, Liu Jiuyi didn't cause trouble for Cen Xi like last time. The five-year-old boy clearly sensed Cen Xi's estrangement from him, unlike the two days ago when she didn't take him seriously.

He was disappointed and confused. He didn't know why all this was happening. She wasn't his and Xiaoyu's mother, and he wasn't wrong. So why was she ignoring him? And why did Xiaoyu betray him?

Cen Xi hadn't had time to pay attention to what the little rascal was thinking these past few days. Now that she had the soft, cozy bed, her next goal was to make money, lots of money.

So she busily worked on her business plan in the study that Wang Dashanren had prepared for her.

After a day of struggle, the people in the Prince's mansion were finally able to move around the next morning, before they froze to death.

After Wang the Great Philanthropist and his wife regained their mobility, they both gave each other a disdainful look, and then Wang the Great Philanthropist left the Wang family and disappeared somewhere.

After a day of torment, Madam Wang obviously didn't dare to have anyone deal with Cen Xi again. She thought that since the master had nowhere to spend his money, he could afford to support this idle person. As long as she didn't cause trouble, she could still meet her demands. She would just let it go like this and consider it as sending an extra sum of money to the government every month.

So, on this day, many people came to Cenxi's courtyard, all sent by the First Madam to serve her.

Cen Xi thought that she had two children and couldn't take care of them all. It was good that these people came; Liu Jiuyi and Xiaoyu were now settled.

So she kept these people around. She wasn't afraid of them using dirty tricks on her. After being intimidated twice and unable to move for a day, they wouldn't dare to stay idle.

Cen Xi thought for a long time and realized that the only thing she could use to make money was her painting skills.

She had studied this very diligently because she liked it, and she could draw any scene vividly and realistically.

So she drew a picture of the scene when she first entered the palace, the wolf pack appeared, and the people fought with them, as well as the scene of her killing the wolf, and hung it on the display wall she set up in the courtyard.

She also painted portraits of everyone in her courtyard, including the new servants who had arrived.

For the first few days, the servants only dared to glance at it and did not dare to go up and ask. Later, one of them finally got bold and approached her to ask what the painting meant.

"How is this painting?"

Instead of answering the other person's question, Cen Xi asked for their opinion.

"Auntie flatters me. I just think that you painted me so lifelike, it's like I'm a real person. I never knew that I had such a spirited side."

This old woman was the cook in the small kitchen in her courtyard. Cen Xi had found her rather agreeable these past few days, mainly because her cooking was delicious. Since she took the initiative to ask about it today, Cen Xi guessed that her fish was about to take the bait.

"Grandma Li, do you really like this painting?"

"Yes...yes! This old woman is shamelessly asking my aunt for one, but I don't know if my aunt..."

Granny Li chuckled twice and hesitantly voiced her thoughts.

"Sure, but I plan to sell this painting during the Lantern Festival. Even though you're from my neighborhood, I still need to charge you."

Cen Xi pretended to be embarrassed and said.

"How much does this painting cost, Auntie?"

Granny Li asked with a forced smile.

How much is your monthly allowance?

"One tael of silver."

Granny Li didn't know why the concubine asked that question, but she still answered honestly.

"Then I won't ask for much, just one or two taels of silver will do. My painting should be worth that price, right?"

Cen Xi asked with a smile.

“It’s worth it, it’s worth it. I’ll take the painting, Auntie. You take the money, and I can pick up the painting myself.”

Granny Li had thought such a painting would be incredibly expensive, but to her surprise, the concubine gave it to her for only one tael of silver. She had gotten a fantastic deal.

Seeing how happy this old woman was, Cen Xi felt a little annoyed.

Well!

Did she set the price too low?

Or should she tentatively raise the price a little?

Cen Xi hesitated for a moment but did not agree to let her go and get it.

"Auntie, I... can I go get it myself?"

Seeing that Cen Xi did not answer for a long time, Granny Li had no choice but to ask again. She liked the painting so much. As a servant, no one had ever been willing to paint their portraits, let alone such a lifelike one.

"Uh! Sure! Go get it. If anyone else wants to buy it, just have them come find me."

After thinking it over, Cen Xi decided not to raise the price. Anyway, these servants didn't have much money, so she would just set the price of her painting at a price they could afford.

As for the master of this mansion, if he wants to buy her paintings, she will charge him exorbitant prices.

In business, it's always good to have a long-term perspective.

With this person taking the lead, Cen Xi's paintings suddenly found a market, and in just half a month, she earned 20,000 taels of silver.

After spending half a month with her, the masters and servants here were no longer afraid of her. It could be said that, apart from the philanthropist Wang, everyone else liked her. She didn't compete for favor, and her paintings made them all look like immortals, incredibly beautiful. What could they possibly complain about?

Besides, this seventh concubine is not only good at painting, but also at playing the zither. She's the kind of person who can kill, so they don't dare to dislike her.

And because of her, the wild beasts that used to roam the town at night no longer dared to come. During the Lantern Festival, they could hold a lantern festival like other places. Who would remember the grudge she had once made them half-dead?

"Little Fish, how do you like this new outfit? Do you like it?"

On New Year's Day, Cen Xi prepared a set of clothes for Jiu Yi and Xiao Yu each, just like Ms. Li had done for her when she was a child. She also bought them a set of toys they liked.

"Little Fish likes it. Mother is the best. Little Fish hasn't worn new clothes in a long time."

"Wear whatever you like. Your mother will make you clothes often in the future. We have plenty of money, so you can spend it as you please."

Cen Xi straightened Xiaoyu's cotton-padded coat, and the more she looked at her, the more she resembled a lucky baby, so she couldn't help but kiss her twice.

"Brother, you should wear it too! The clothes Mother made for me are so beautiful."

After enjoying Cen Xi's caresses, the little girl stepped out of Cen Xi's embrace and went to show off to Liu Jiuyi.

"What's there to brag about? It's just a new outfit. Didn't she make one for you before?"

Jiuyi glanced at Cen Xi shyly and pouted as she spoke.

For the past month, Cen Xi had deliberately ignored him, not speaking to him, which made him feel very uncomfortable.
