“You two are the only ones unconscious in this hospital. Who are you two talking about? I said you two usually get along well, but I never thought that even after something like this would lead to you two being a couple. Now you still have the mind to joke around. Can’t you see your Aunt Li and me? We’re so worried that we’re practically skin and bones. Sigh! You’re such a heartless son.”
Cen Xi didn't say anything, but Yu Kuang's mother, Chen Ling, kept nagging him.
"Do you understand what we're saying? Don't interrupt unless necessary. Alright! We've waited so long and no one from other wards has come out. It seems that woman Jun Xiaoqiao isn't coming back. Let's go get our checkups done first. Once we're both better, we can discuss this in detail."
Yu Kuang retorted to her mother without any politeness, and then winked and smiled at Cen Xi.
"Um!"
Cen Xi gave him a cryptic look and then fell silent.
She remembered that Jun Jianchou seemed to have visited her grave. She sensed his presence and sent him a distress signal, which is why she was able to get out of the black bottle. However, she never expected that the two of them would eventually return to the modern world together.
After the examinations, the doctors made diagnoses for both of them, and both were progressing in a positive direction.
However, because they had been lying down for too long, both of them were very stiff, so they needed to exercise every day to recover quickly.
Two months passed in the blink of an eye, and Cen Xi and Yu Kuang were discharged from the hospital on the same day.
Yu Kuang returned to her home in the east of the city. Cen Xi's previous home was registered under her adoptive father's name, so she went back to the house rented by Ms. Li.
Previously, because Cen Xi was injured and fell into a coma and no one took care of her, Ms. Li quit her job to take care of Cen Xi full-time, so the house she rented was not far from the hospital.
As Cen Xi walked into the house, navigating the cramped space, she couldn't help but ask herself a profound question:
"Ms. Li, have you ever thought about what will happen if you give up everything and end up with nothing? What if I never wake up again?"
"What's there to think about? Once the money's gone, I'll take care of you if I'm able. But if you don't wake up, I'll just have to accept the fact that I'm the one who has to bury me. What else can I do?"
Ms. Li chuckled as she tidied the house. After she finished laughing, she gave Cen Xi a look that said, "You're worrying for nothing," and answered her question.
After saying that, he raised his hand to beckon to Cen Xi:
"Don't just watch your mom do all the work. Come over and help me tidy up. Don't become lazy after lying around for a year."
"I've always been lazy. I was so diligent before only because I had no choice but to do so because of your domineering nature."
Cen Xi smiled and lifted the lever slightly before going inside to tidy up.
"Hey! You're getting angry with your mom as soon as you get back, aren't you? Is your mom really that bad? Who's the domineering one?"
Ms. Li gave Cen Xi a sharp tap on the forehead and scolded her playfully.
"Hey! Who said you weren't assertive? When I was little, you forced me to learn so many things. If it weren't for the fact that your daughter is a genius, well, who could withstand that kind of pressure? Ms. Li, I was just a child back then. You should be grateful that you didn't drive me to depression."
Cen Xi touched her forehead, then let out a loud "Ouch!" and glared at her, listing all her faults.
But Ms. Li suddenly burst into tears at Cen Xi's words. She pulled Cen Xi into her arms and cried as she said:
"Ah Xi, Mother won't do it again."
"Stop crying. It's been a year, and you've become a crybaby. I didn't mean to blame you, Mom. Your daughter was just teasing you."
Cen Xi saw Ms. Li crying with tears streaming down her face and felt both amused and exasperated. Her mother had never cried in front of her before, so what was wrong with her now?
"I know, I know. I just feel guilty that I didn't treat you well before. Only now that you're leaving me do I realize how unworthy I am as a mother."
Ms. Li also felt that she was too emotional today, but she just couldn't control herself. Who can understand the feeling of losing something and then getting it back? No one has experienced it, so no one understands.
"Okay, let's not talk about that. Let's talk about something else. How much money do you have on hand right now? Mom, what kind of business are you thinking of starting?"
Cen Xi was afraid she would cry again, so she quickly changed the subject.
"Actually, it's not much, only about 80,000 or 90,000 left. It's probably not enough to start a business. Maybe I should go back to teaching at the school. The other day, the vice principal of Qingshan Middle School asked me if I was going back. He said he could arrange it for your mother anytime. I'll invite him to dinner sometime. It should be possible."
Ms. Li sighed. What she had said at the hospital was really just some comforting words.
Since Cen Xi's accident, she has had a tough time. If she still hasn't woken up after a while, she will have no choice but to hire a caregiver and go out to work hard to earn money.
"Mom, actually I have money. I used to work at an investment company, and I brought some of the money home and saved some of it on my own. The reason I didn't tell you was because I was afraid my stepfather would use it to cover his debts."
"Luckily I came back, otherwise this money would have been given to the bank for nothing."
Seeing Ms. Li's predicament and embarrassment, Cen Xi smiled and revealed her hidden secret.
"You have this trick up your sleeve, huh! No wonder you're my daughter, you're so cunning."
Ms. Li felt quite gratified seeing her smug smile.
Her ex-husband really shouldn't have known how much money his daughter had.
“What kind of scheming is this? This is an open strategy. We all know what kind of person my stepfather is. How could he not have a backup plan? Even if he kept it from you, if I hadn’t woken up, this money probably wouldn’t have helped you much.”
Thinking of this, Cen Xi felt a little guilty. She really hadn't told anyone back then. If she had stayed in that world, Ms. Li's life would probably have been very difficult. After all, as long as she had a breath left, Ms. Li probably wouldn't have given up on her.
"Ha, your mouth is as sweet as honey. Look at your smug look, do you have a lot of money saved up? Tell me how much, so your mother can be happy too."
Ms. Li looked at Cen Xi's bright eyes, chuckled, and then inquired about the amount.
"It's about three million, right? You should have half of the property rights to the house we bought before, Ms. Li. Didn't you get your half when you got divorced?"
After feigning modesty, Cen Xi finished speaking and then inquired about the house they used to live in.
"Three million! My daughter is really capable. She earned so much in just a few years without working. So what are you planning to do?"
Ms. Li subconsciously avoided mentioning the previous house, only praising Cen Xi with a forced smile.
"Are you beating around the bush like this? Is it because that man is cheating and has taken over the house without paying you?"
Ms. Li is a strong-willed woman, and for her to show such an expression was definitely not normal. Cen Xi immediately made a guess.
"Well, the court ruled that he should pay me one million, but you know your stepfather is in debt everywhere, and his company is barely surviving. How could he possibly pay me? Oh well, it's good that you're awake. Now that you're awake, we don't really have any money to spend. Let's just let it go and not get involved with him anymore."
