Chapter 71 Finding the Answer

The streetlights suddenly turned on, and the orange light shone directly on the two of them. Bai Jiu looked up and saw the crimson glint in Luo Sheng's eyes.

Seeing his pitiful state, she opened her mouth to speak, but before she could open her mouth, Luo Sheng spoke first.

"Liquor."

"Did you ever like me? Regardless of what really happened, I'm just asking you, did you ever like me, Luo Sheng, as a person? Or were you only after our family's money from the beginning?"

These words were almost choked out by Luo Sheng.

He kept his head down and his back slightly bent. Sometimes he really felt that he was extremely humble in front of Baijiu. He didn't even have the courage to look her in the eyes, afraid that she would say that she had never liked him, and afraid that he would not be able to accept it.

The constant cramping in her stomach caused Baijiu to break out in a sweat again. The alternating sensations of hot and cold made her feel extremely uncomfortable. She wanted to stand up and talk, but her body, which had already reached its limit, wouldn't obey her commands. Her hands and feet were still trembling. How long had it been since she had felt this bad? Physiological tears blurred her vision.

After waiting for a long time without receiving a response, Luo Sheng finally noticed that something was wrong with Bai Jiu. Why were her hands trembling so badly? The dry ground was soaked with her tears. He quickly squatted down and cupped her face in his hands.

The voice that came out was urgent, "What's wrong? What's wrong with you? Why are you shaking?"

Seeing this, Baijiu cried even harder, trembling, and after a while, she managed to squeeze out a sentence, "So cold, I'm so cold!"

Luo Sheng quickly looked at her feet; they were already blue from the cold. Damn it!

He let go of her, hurriedly ran back, and retrieved the shoes as quickly as possible. He then frantically helped the person in front of him put on the shoes and his coat.

"Come on, I'll take you home." He then reached out and scooped her up.

Knowing that Luo Sheng wouldn't abandon her, Bai Jiu felt a weight lifted from her heart. She hadn't answered his question yet, but her eyelids were drooping uncontrollably. She moved her lips, said what she wanted to say, and without grabbing the man's arm, she fell straight into his arms.

"I like it. I've always liked it, I'm not lying to you."

Even though the person in his arms spoke very softly before fainting, he still managed to hear it.

His inner obsession seemed to dissipate instantly. He hugged the person in his arms tightly, then picked them up and quickened his pace unconsciously. He ran quickly to the car with the person in his arms, settled them in, and then drove to the hospital.

It was already the next day when the effects of the liquor wore off.

The painful experience of stomach pain and fever left Baijiu feeling sore all over when she woke up. She moved her legs and then turned over.

But she moved a little too much and accidentally pulled the blanket off, causing her head, which was resting on the blanket, to slip out in a very comical way and then hit the cold corner of the hospital bed.

Upon hearing the noise, Baijiu quickly sat up: Oh no, she didn't see anything, and she didn't want to feel embarrassed for others.

Luo Sheng's head was too small; she couldn't even see it. And was he crazy? It was only the beginning of winter, yet he had covered her with two whole sets of thick quilts. Although it wasn't hot, they were indeed quite thick and pressing down on her. She had a lot of effort to turn over, which definitely made her already irritable body feel even worse. But who would have thought that this movement would cause him to bump his head?

Sitting up was too sore, so she decided to lie back down.

Well, she was just afraid it would be awkward if people woke up and saw it.

A sharp pain in his forehead jolted Luo Sheng awake from his dream. He opened his eyes, looked around in a daze, sneezed, and then met Bai Jiu's gaze.

Did he have such a vivid dream that he bumped his head?

Realizing he was a little embarrassed, Luo Sheng touched his nose and then returned to his serious demeanor.

"You're awake? Would you like some water?"

The man's voice was a little hoarse from just waking up, but the gentleness and concern in his words made Baijiu feel as if she had been transported back to the past.

In the days when she was with him, she always saw the same face when she opened her eyes, and his first words were always, "You're awake, baby? Do you want some water?"

She doesn't consider herself a sentimental or nostalgic person, but during her time back in China, or more accurately, every time she saw him, many past scenes would pop into her mind.

Seeing that Bai Jiu was a little dazed, Luo Sheng quickly went over and touched her forehead. It was still a little hot. Realizing something, he quietly moved the blanket down a layer, afraid that he would suffocate her.

The moment the warm palm touched her forehead, Bai Jiu felt a surge of happiness. She suddenly felt a little attached to this atmosphere. She didn't want to miss out on the days to come. She had already made a mistake, and she wanted to stay with him forever and not let anyone take him away.

Perhaps, she has always been selfish.

She nodded to Luo Sheng, and only after finishing the glass of water he handed her did she slowly begin to speak.

"Thank you, Luo Sheng."

Luo Sheng paused for a moment as he put down the cup.

"I haven't finished talking about what happened yesterday. Would you like to hear me finish?"

Luo Sheng: "Mm."

He has gotten the answer he wanted; as for the rest, it doesn't seem to matter so much anymore.

"Two years ago, I did take five million from your parents. Five million is no small amount; it was an astronomical figure for me at the time. You must have heard bits and pieces about my family's bankruptcy back then. Although I always told you it was a lie for the sake of appearances, in fact, what they said was true."

At this point, Baijiu glanced at him, making sure his expression was normal before continuing.

"Back then, my father was seriously ill and hospitalized because of company problems, and the Bai family became impoverished overnight. However, my mother took me to live with her, so even though the company went bankrupt, my life wasn't too bad at the time. Until the last month I was with you, my father was given a critical condition notice by the hospital, and all my savings over the years, as well as the gifts you had given me, were spent on his treatment."

Luo Sheng was unaware of, and never expected, that Baijiu had gone through such a difficult time back then. He was only intoxicated by the sweetness of their romance and had no idea how much she had suffered. He even blamed her for not giving him a gift on his birthday.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know any of this back then. I'm not a good boyfriend."

Seeing that Luo Sheng felt somewhat guilty, Bai Jiu offered an explanation.

“You don’t need to blame yourself. I didn’t tell you about what happened back then. Firstly, I also have my own pride, and secondly, I was afraid that because of my family, you would choose to separate from me, and your family would also look down on me because of it, even though your mother did give that kind of attitude later.”

Baijiu admitted that these words were true, except for the fact that he was abandoned for five million back then and the things that happened abroad, but those were things he had no choice but to do.

Apart from that, she felt she had done nothing to wrong him.
