Chapter 81 I Love You All
As soon as the engagement ceremony ended, Shen Jingsi went upstairs to his study and never came out again.
Duan Xi'er was pushed twice by Mother Shen, and with a heart full of trepidation, she stepped up the stairs to the second floor.
"Knock knock knock!"
"Enter."
Standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, Shen Jingsi did not turn around; the mirror reflected her approaching figure.
"Ah Si, Mom asked me to ask if you're staying home tonight."
Shen Jingsi turned around and looked at Duan Xier, who was cautiously asking questions.
He put the empty wine glass back on the desk next to him, put his hands in his pockets, and leaned back against the desk with his legs bent.
He smiled warmly, "Do you want me to stay?"
It had been a long time since Duan Xi'er had seen Shen Jingsi show such a gentle side. He even took the initiative to pinch her wrist and hold her hand, and Duan Xi'er's heart instantly soared.
Shen Jingsi stared at her silently. "Why are you crying?"
She turned her head to wipe away her tears, wanting to smile, but the grievances that had been building up in her heart were pounding wildly in her chest, making her tightly pursed lips tremble.
"I thought you wouldn't care about my feelings anymore."
Shen Jingsi took out a handkerchief from his suit jacket and wiped away her tears.
"Who said I don't care?"
"Then why don't you come home every day and don't answer my and Mom's calls? We all thought you were determined to spend the rest of your life with Lu Zhenyu outside."
Shen Jingsi chuckled and exhaled a breath of stale air, then flicked her forehead with a touch of doting affection.
"If I really didn't want you anymore, why would I come back and get engaged to you? Do I look like I have nothing better to do?"
Duan Xi'er cried even harder and rushed into his arms.
"Do you still love me? Or rather, between me and her, would you still choose me?"
He let the woman cry in his arms, while Shen Jingsi's eyes, fixed on the distance, remained unfocused.
"Of course, I said I would protect you, and I will."
After so many days of mental tension and torment, Duan Xi'er was unusually candid in front of Shen Jingsi.
"Ah Si, you know I love you, I really love you."
Shen Jingsi replied, "Of course I know."
Duan Xi'er, who was in his arms, shook her head.
"No, you don't know, you don't know what I've done all these years for the love of you, but I know it myself."
Shen Jingsi stood there with his body straight, his eyes lifeless and unwavering, hidden from the person in his arms.
“You risked your life to save me, risked the Duan family’s reputation to save the Shen family, and stayed with me for five years. I know all of that.”
But the truth is far more than that, but Duan Xi'er dared not tell this man.
"Maybe I have done some wrong things in the past, but Ah Si, please believe me, it was all for the sake of loving you. I love you so much."
Shen Jingsi replied calmly, "I know."
Duan Xi'er said, "I know that Feng Manman and Lu Zhenyu hate me, despise me, and wish I would die. But all I want to do is love you and be your wife, that's all."
Shen Jingsi patted her trembling shoulders, "Be good, be obedient, and I certainly won't let them touch you."
"But there will always be people who want me dead."
"As long as I'm here, no one will dare."
The woman looked up with tears in her eyes, whether from gratitude or surprise, or perhaps both, and hugged the person tightly again.
"Thank you, Ah Si, thank you for telling me all this tonight. As long as I have your words, I would have no regrets even if I were to die for you."
The study door was knocked on again. As Duan Xi'er wiped away her tears and stepped out of Shen Jingsi's arms, a servant came in carrying two bowls of hot soup.
"Young master and young mistress, the madam is worried that you've drunk too much and will cause trouble tomorrow morning, so she asked me to bring you some hangover soup."
The man's long, straight eyelashes fluttered slightly. "Give it to me."
Seeing Shen Jingsi take the soup bowl and drink it down without hesitation, Duan Xi'er pursed her lips, looked at her own bowl, and drank it all down.
The servants left, and the study door closed again.
Watching Shen Jingsi get up and sit back on the sofa, remove his tie and toss it aside, he put his arm around the back of the sofa.
Duan Xi'er slowly walked over and sat down next to his legs.
She placed her hand on his thigh. "Ah Si, are you really not leaving tonight?"
The man lifted his eyelashes and glanced at her, his gaze tinged with a hint of heat.
His Adam's apple bobbed as he nodded. "Didn't I already agree? Why are you asking again?"
Duan Xi'er pursed her lips and shyly leaned into his arms.
"I'm afraid you'll go back on your word, so how about I stay here tonight and keep you company?"
Shen Jingsi smirked, "We're not even married yet, aren't you afraid I'll eat you up?"
"You're annoying!"
She lightly punched his chest with her small fist, but it was caught by his hot, large hand.
Duan Xi'er glanced up, her gaze moving from the man's increasingly intoxicated eyes to his lips being lightly licked by the tip of his tongue, and the veins on his neck that were struggling against the growing redness.
Her red lips slowly curved upwards, and she leaned down to whisper in his ear, "A-Si, do you want me?"
Shen Jingsi's gaze grew increasingly intense and difficult to suppress. He narrowed his deep, dark eyes and curled his thin lips into a smile. "What if I said I wanted to?"
"Then I'll give it to you."
…
Even late at night, the streets of Beijing were still bustling with traffic.
The taxi drove through the area, the neon lights passing over that calm and serene face.
"Miss, just to confirm, are you going to the Zheng residence on Songwan Road?"
A calm voice came from the back of the car, "Yes."
"Okay, then fasten your seatbelt. We'll be there in about thirty minutes."
Lu Zhenyu: "No rush, you can drive slowly too."
Thirty minutes, something sounds familiar.
Seven months ago, it took thirty minutes to get from the airport to the Shen family's house; tonight, it still takes thirty minutes to get from the Shen family's house to the Zheng family's house.
It took Lu Zhenyu five years to travel such a short distance.
At this moment, she felt calmer than she had expected.
Don't be fooled by the fact that many people often say things like "What's the point of living? It's better to be dead."
When truly facing death, they actually want to prolong their lives a little longer.
But Lu Zhenyu was different. Thinking about the scene that was about to unfold, her heart was calmer than ever before.
The phone on my lap vibrated again.
It was Feng Manman who sent the video to their group chat.
Lu Zhenyu didn't look at it, she only opened the audio.
"Zhenzhen, I have some great news to tell you! Yiqiao and I just took the wheels off the Duan family's car! Seeing the four of them standing in front of the car, their faces as black as the ground, was so satisfying!"
Shi Yiqiao said, "Not only that, she also insulted Shen Jingsi's mother in front of a bunch of people, saying that she was an opportunist, a slick and snobbish old fox, two-faced, and must have been a bed sheet seller in her past life. The old lady was so embarrassed, hahaha! I was so embarrassed for her."
Feng Manman said, "Shi Da's Best Actress is not bad either. She even innocently knocked over the cake that was being used for celebration, hahaha! Duan Xi'er's mother stepped on the cream and fell flat on her face."
Bei Tingwan said, "It's a pity. If I had known that your performance was even more wonderful than the Spring Festival Gala, I would have delayed my business trip by one day."
Feng Manman said, "It's not too late, sister-in-law. There's Duan Yu and Tao Zhitao's engagement banquet in a couple of days. I'll give you a chance to shine next time."
Bei Tingwan: "Okay, okay, I'll start planning now."
Shi Yiqiao: "Hey? Where did Pearl go? Why isn't she saying anything? Is she asleep?"
The message had only been sent for two seconds when a familiar profile picture popped up.
Lu Zhenyu: "I love you all."
Lu Zhenyu, "Forever".
Feng Manman said, "I know you love us, so there's no need to emphasize it. To celebrate our successful 'Havoc in Heaven,' let's go for drinks at Nightclub when my sister-in-law gets back from her business trip!"
Shi Yiqiao: "Then I want to call ten male models!"
Bei Tingwan asked, "The Commandant won't come to arrest you, will he?"
Shi Yiqiao: "No way~ it's game over between us!"
The taxi stopped at this point, ignoring the lively discussion in the group chat. Lu Zhenyu paid the fare, picked up the thermos cup that was placed next to her, and got out of the car.
The Zheng residence was brightly lit tonight, and you could see ambulances with flashing police lights in the courtyard.
Lu Zhenyu stood on the opposite side of the road, her hair blowing in front of her eyes, braving the cool breeze.
The image of the engagement party flashed through his mind: Shen Jingsi forced a smile as he looked at Duan Xier and slowly slipped the ring onto her middle finger.
Facing the empty, dark night, Lu Zhenyu smiled wryly.
“If this kind of life makes you unhappy, then how about Lu Zhenyu pushes you one more time?”
Last time, five years ago, she used her marriage to Zheng Yaozong to propel Shen Jingsi up a significant step.
Five years later, tonight, she drank this cup of water, remotely helping him rise to prominence by stepping on the Zheng family's coattails.
At this point, the Zheng family, already teetering on the brink of collapse, is doomed to fall.
Letting her coat be blown away by the wind, the girl walked forward with firm steps.
As she was about to cross the road, the ringing of a bell in her pocket stopped her in her tracks.
It was Xiaomeng calling. She called once but no one answered, and then she kept calling.
Standing in the middle of the road, Lu Zhenyu still answered the call, afraid that the girl wouldn't be able to find her and wouldn't have a peaceful night at the Lu residence.
Xiaomeng cried out, "Zhenzhen! Listen to me, listen to me!"
Lu Zhenyu comforted her, "Don't rush, tell me slowly, what's wrong?"
But as the excited voice came through the receiver, her back stiffened.
The tightly closed gate of the Zheng residence opened at that moment, and the ambulance with its siren blaring, led by a red flag, rushed into the end of the night.
"Clatter".
The sound of the phone and the thermos shattering as they fell to the ground.
Night fell.
