Chapter 27: Pushing the Cart
To set up a stall, she needed a cart! She had to go out again in the afternoon, which was another big expense. This money was really not going to last.
She was also a little hungry, and couldn't help but make a burrito for herself. After she had some free time, she always felt as if she had forgotten something.
Just as Ji Zhisui was thinking carefully in her mind, there was a noise at the door. She held the half-eaten burrito and looked over curiously.
Pei Yian, who had been missing all morning, appeared at the door with a few books in his hands.
Only then did she remember what she had forgotten. She forgot that there was a male protagonist beside her and he had not eaten the burrito she made yet.
Not only did he forget, but even the Pei family seemed to have forgotten...
Pei Yian went out early in the morning to inquire about information nearby, hoping to see if he could get any news about the miracle doctor from southern Xinjiang, but unfortunately to no avail.
After passing by the bookstore, he stopped unconsciously and walked in.
Thinking of the embarrassing situation in the morning when he had no money to buy things, he wanted to go in and try his luck.
He wanted to see if there was any work copying books. Although his martial arts skills were gone, his brain and knowledge were still there.
After seeing his handwriting, the bookshop owner was very satisfied and gave him a few books to copy.
The thin ones paid fifteen cents, the more expensive ones paid twenty cents, and he took on these jobs without any hesitation, as he was really short of money now.
Because I had no money, I could only ask the bookstore owner to advance me the cheapest pens and ink.
Seeing Ji Zhisui's eyes open, he was so shocked that he even stopped chewing and looked at him with puffy cheeks.
This made Pei Yian want to tease someone. He walked towards Ji Zhisui step by step, watching the man standing there without any movement.
"Ma'am, you seem shocked to see me? Shouldn't I be here?"
This elegant voice instantly brought Ji Zhisui back to reality. After hearing what he said, she shook her head vigorously, trying to cover up her inner guilt.
She really thought so before!
So why didn't he and the Pei family remember Pei Yian?
But she couldn't let the man notice all this. She glanced around, trying to brush the matter off.
"Do you want to eat a burrito?" Ji Zhisui originally wanted to point to the table and let him fend for himself and make it for himself.
I don't know if I was too nervous or had a brain attack, but I handed over the half-eaten burrito in my hand.
Pei Yian looked at the burrito in front of him with great interest, a smile on his face, "Madam, are you planning to treat me to a meal?"
Ji Zhisui realized what she had done and wanted to find a hole to crawl into. She obviously didn't mean that, so why did her brain suddenly go crazy?
She had an awkward smile on her face. She silently took back the half-eaten burrito with one hand and pointed to the table with the other hand, "The burrito is on the table."
This attempt to hide the truth only made Pei Yian's desire to tease him even stronger. He pointed at the half-retracted burrito and said, "But didn't my wife say she would treat me to this?"
After being caught, Ji Zhisui was too lazy to pretend. He directly took back the burrito in his hand and hid it behind his back, as if he was afraid that someone would snatch it away.
She stood up, walked to the table, quickly made a burrito, and stuffed it into Pei Yian's hand, "Okay, you can eat it."
Ji Zhisui was a little embarrassed, so he added a lot of vegetables and a little bit of shredded meat to the wrap.
Who asked him to show up and make me act stupid? It's all this man's fault!
Go eat the cakes! It’s best to eat one at a time without making a sound!
Watching Ji Zhisui leave in anger, Pei Yian's smile became more obvious. The depressed mood of not finding any news about the miracle doctor and the embarrassment of not having any money on him were swept away. He lowered his head and began to taste the delicious wrap in his hand.
It tastes very good and it’s something I’ve never seen before.
Weird and special thoughts and ideas always pop up in her mind.
The Pei family's lunch was rolls. Ji Zhisui made quite a lot of them, and since rolls were very filling, the child and Pei only ate one, while the others ate two.
There is still a lot left, which can be saved for dinner.
Ji Zhisui told the Pei family about his idea of buying a small cart and setting up a stall to sell spring rolls, and received everyone's full support.
Mrs. Pei directly took out three taels of silver and handed it to Ji Zhisui, asking her to buy a small cart.
In the afternoon, Ji Zhisui carried all of Pei's family's and his own belongings with him and took Pei Yian out to look at cars, but he didn't know if the money was enough.
Arriving at the shop selling tools, she scanned the shops one by one and soon locked onto a cart.
It was a small cart with a wooden frame and wooden wheels, and a deck on top for placing wraps and various fillings.
What attracted Ji Zhisui the most was that there was a drawer on the cart, which could be used to store coins and other things. Even if he didn't buy burritos at that time, it would be convenient to switch to selling other things.
"Shopkeeper, how much is this cart?"
The shopkeeper took a look and said, "Five taels."
Ji Zhisui couldn't help but complain in his heart. It seemed that cars in ancient times were really not cheap. "Boss, can you make it cheaper? I can't afford that much."
Ji Zhisui was telling the truth. She really couldn't come up with so much money at once. Adding the three taels given by Mrs. Pei and the money she had on hand, it should be five taels in total.
It is not cost-effective to spend all their savings to buy a cart. If they need money urgently, they will be unfamiliar with the place and will have no way to find anyone to help them.
"My dear lady, this is made of pine wood. The price is very fair." The shopkeeper did not give in at all.
Ji Zhisui was in a bit of a dilemma. She didn't know the market price of timber, and the shopkeeper had no intention of backing down, so it was difficult for her to continue bargaining.
"If I'm not mistaken, the wood used here is Populus deltoides, which can be found everywhere in the mountains. The carpenter's craftsmanship is good, and it's worth three taels of silver. Boss, your price is a bit outrageous." Pei Yian said as he observed the cart.
The shopkeeper who had a serious expression on his face didn't expect that his true identity would be exposed so quickly. It was obvious that pine wood and poplar wood looked similar to the naked eye, but he didn't expect to meet someone who knew the difference today and could tell the difference at a glance.
But in order to increase the price, he told them that the wood was made of pine wood. The shopkeeper felt like he was being slapped in the face.
He thought he was unlucky to have met someone who knew the business, so he just wanted to close the deal as soon as possible and sell the cart for three taels of silver.
Ji Zhisui pushed the newly bought cart, his eyes fixed on Pei Yian. Tools are quite useful.
Now that she has the cart, she has spent a lot of money on purchasing things today. She is eager to make money and has some time, so she plans to set up her stall in the afternoon to see how things are going.
