Chapter 3: Little Knowledge
"You..." Pei Ersao could hardly stand after being insulted like that. Her chest heaved up and down, and she was obviously very angry.
She turned to look at Ji Zhisui, wondering how to comfort her.
Ji Zhisui patted Pei Ersao's hands and said indifferently, "My cousin has little experience, so it's normal that she doesn't know me."
"You bitch! What nonsense are you talking about!" Pei Yuanyuan instantly understood what he meant. This bitch was beating around the bush to say that she was short-sighted.
No one has ever dared to treat her like this. She raised her hand and decided to teach this bitch a lesson today to let her know how powerful she is.
"Cousin, I've been weak since I was a child. If anything goes wrong, I will definitely spread the news. After all, my father is the Marquis of Weiyuan, and he hates it most when others insult the Marquisate."
The daughter of Weiyuan Marquis was bullied to death by an exiled criminal. If this were known to other people, they would probably look down on the Marquisate.
The reputation of the Marquis's mansion is what Marquis Weiyuan cares about most, otherwise he would not do such a thing as replacing his daughter in marriage.
Pei Yuanyuan's forward movement suddenly paused. She began to weigh the pros and cons in her mind, but she still insisted, "Oh! Don't lie to me. I won't give you this chance."
"Then give it a try, cousin!" Ji Zhisui was not afraid at all.
Her calm and composed look made Pei Yuanyuan want to retreat. In the past, she might not be afraid because she was used to being arrogant and domineering. Even if something happened, she had the General's Mansion to support her. But now, she didn't dare to take the risk.
If they were targeted by Marquis Weiyuan, their whole family would be in big trouble.
"Hehe, people like you are not worth my personal attention." Pei Yuanyuan couldn't admit that she was scared, and she looked arrogant and found a way out.
"Where are the steamed buns? It turns out my cousin is a liar. I misjudged her." Ji Zhisui's words and expression were somewhat intriguing.
Pei Yuanyuan was very concerned about her image and reputation. Now that she was labeled a liar, she couldn't stand it any longer. She argued, "What nonsense are you talking about? I didn't lie to you!"
"Then do the steamed buns you mentioned earlier still count?"
Pei Yuanyuan looked at him with disdain and contempt, and said in a disdainful tone, "Of course, do I have to lie to you?"
Her third cousin-in-law is such a spineless person. She is so shameless just for a bite to eat. Even if she is the daughter of Weiyuan Marquis, she still has to be servile and subservient in front of her.
Ji Zhisui could probably guess most of her thoughts through her undisguised emotions. In a place where survival is difficult, what is the use of backbone? Can it be compared to a good meal?
She is an orphan. Although the orphanage has donations from caring people in the society, she still often goes hungry. In the past, in order to have enough food, she went to mountains and seas, and did everything she could to act cute and please others. Her excellent cooking skills were also acquired in that environment.
"What about the steamed buns? My cousin won't want to default on the debt, right?" Ji Zhisui didn't care, she just wanted to see the big white steamed buns.
Listening to Ji Zhisui calling him a liar and a debt-breaker, the veins on Pei Yuanyuan's forehead throbbed. The third cousin's wife was just an idiot, only thinking about eating. However, she was still joking, "It's easy to get steamed buns, just beg me!"
Pei Ersao, who was standing by, was used to such scenes. She knew that this was another trick played by the second wife to make fun of them.
The last time their mother was seriously ill, they wanted to borrow some herbs from the second wife, but the other party used the same tone and attitude, and in the end they got nothing. Later, the third brother went to the mountains to find some herbs for emergency use.
She gently pulled her sister-in-law's sleeve, wanting to take her away with her, not wanting to get entangled with the people from the second house.
"If you don't have it, then don't. It's a waste of my time." Ji Zhisui's expression became contemptuous.
To deal with such a person, you can't reason with her. You have to be thicker-skinned and better at acting than her.
Pei Yuanyuan is competitive and hates being looked down upon the most. In the past, the people from the main branch of the Pei family were kind to her sincerely, but she thought that these people were just showing off in front of her. For such people, provocation is the most appropriate method.
After saying that, Pei Yuanyuan was like a cat with its fur standing on end. She pointed at Ji Zhisui's face and cursed, "Just wait for me."
After finishing her words, Pei Yuanyuan took out a white flour bun from inside and placed it in front of Ji Zhisui, saying in a haughty tone, "How is it?"
"Just one? So this is all your strength." Ji Zhisui said in a light tone.
But for Pei Yuanyuan, it was like a heavy hammer. Her face looked extremely ugly and she was so angry that she took out four more white steamed buns.
"How is it?" Pei Yuanyuan said proudly.
Ji Zhisui quickly packed up the five white flour buns, fearing that she would regret it, and said perfunctorily, "Amazing, the strength of five buns."
Although these were kind words, Pei Yuanyuan still felt uncomfortable. She simply said, "There are no generals protecting the country now. You will only be trampled under the feet of the people of the Second House forever."
Ji Zhisui did not respond. Her adopted husband would be the regent in the future, a person above everyone else.
She happily took her second sister-in-law and five white flour buns into the cave.
Mrs. Pei looked at the five white steamed buns, and her gaze fell on her sister-in-law, and she unconsciously looked up to her.
Being able to get things from the second house, it seems that my sister-in-law is quite capable.
Old Madam Pei was very worried about her two granddaughters-in-law who went out to look for something. When she saw them return safely, she finally felt relieved.
She hurried towards the two of them, and as she got closer she saw five big white buns.
He rubbed his eyes in disbelief. Where did the steamed buns come from in this remote place?
Even when they got to the town, they didn't have much money left, and the remaining money could only be spent on the most important things.
My daughter-in-law’s illness requires housing in Lingnan, which will cost a lot of money. It’s not worth buying a white flour bun.
"Is this a steamed bun? Am I seeing things?" Old Madam Pei was puzzled and somewhat doubtful of her own eyes.
"Grandma, it's steamed buns. Sui Niang asked for them from the second house." Pei Ersao took the initiative to explain.
"Could the second wife be so kind?" Madam Pei didn't have a good impression when she heard the word "second wife". The person who used to be humble and fawning to them was now acting arrogantly in front of them.
But that family always made things difficult for them and showed no mercy at all. Even if they begged them sincerely, they would get nothing good.
"It's Sui Niang who's amazing." Pei Ersao praised. They didn't get anything from the second house along the way, but Sui Niang succeeded as soon as she took action.
Mrs. Pei looked at her granddaughter-in-law. At just one glance, she could tell that something was different about her.
