Li Laoda pressed forward relentlessly, while Li Laosan and Wang Yiting retreated step by step.
"Brother, let's talk this out. Why are you hitting the child?"
Terrified—the axe had almost fallen on Old Lady Li's head—Li Laosan was now completely cowardly. He didn't think he was any better off than Old Lady Li.
"Speak properly."
With a slight smile, and as Li Laosan trembled with fear, Li Laoda changed the subject.
"Did you enjoy the snake last night, Li Laosan?"
"What do you mean?"
Li Laosan's eyes widened as he rubbed his hands. The slippery, icy sensation from last night seemed to return. He slept outside, and the snake had been the first to crawl onto him.
“The snake was caught by your two sons. I couldn’t bear to waste their good intentions, so I threw it into your house.”
Taking advantage of the brief moment Li Laosan was stunned, Li Laoda dragged out the Li family head. Before he could even hit him with the broom, a hand stopped him.
"Boss, that's enough."
Putting down the broom, Old Man Li stared at Old Man Li, as if waiting to hear what he would say.
"Boss, the family members and the head of the family are just being silly and playing a joke on you. Don't take it to heart."
Old Man Li looked at Li Jiamin with heartache, extremely worried. Old Mrs. Li favored their granddaughter Li Fuyi, but he doted on his two grandsons, Li Jiamin and the head of the Li family.
Intelligent, resourceful, and destined for great things.
“Dad, you’re right. They’re just young and what they do is all in jest. I can’t take it to heart.”
This was the first time Old Man Li had gone along with him, and Old Man Li felt a sense of disbelief.
"Boss..."
"father..."
The two spoke at the same time, and Boss Li was all smiles, showing no trace of his previous ferocity.
"Father, I'm so much younger than you, am I still young? Tonight I'll catch two poisonous snakes and put them in your and Mother's room. You won't hold it against me, will you?"
Is being young an excuse?
Of course not. Old Master Li only saw Old Man Li's true feelings of pity for the Li family members and the head of the Li family.
Seeing that Old Man Li had nothing to say, the eldest brother of the Li family grabbed the head of the Li family and gave him a beating.
See? It only hurts when the stick hits you. Everyone likes to talk big without experiencing the pain. Old Li stood there for a while, then stormed off in a huff. They were both angry with Old Li and afraid that Old Li might actually do something as foolish as releasing snakes.
"Third son, you can keep an eye on your son from now on, otherwise I, as your uncle, will have to take care of him for you."
The head of the Li family was thrown to the ground, and Wang Yiting immediately went up to hug him.
He looked at Boss Li with a mixture of hatred and longing, and his gaze made Boss Li's skin crawl.
"Mom, where's my and my wife's food?"
The same question elicited different responses. This time, Old Mrs. Li promptly served two bowls of rice to Li the eldest, and piled a large bowl full of the dishes on the table for him as if they were free.
After glancing at it, Old Master Li picked it up and left without a second thought. He then went to the kitchen and took away the steamed egg custard that Old Lady Li had made for Li Fuyi.
Good stuff, only his wife deserves to eat it.
"Boss, this is outrageous."
Old Mrs. Li was furious, but she only dared to grumble softly, not daring to speak loudly. Wang Yiting held her child and cried silently until she could no longer see Li the eldest's figure, at which point she turned her gaze to the head of the Li family.
Li Jiafu and Li Jiaqiang, like quails, hunched their necks, their faces pale and filled with anxiety. They barely ate a few bites of food before leaving with their schoolbags.
There was definitely not enough rice left, so Old Mrs. Li scraped the remaining scraps from the pot for Li Lao Er and Zhao Da Hua, and then steamed a bowl of egg custard for Li Fu Yi before returning to the table to eat.
Looking at the rice barely covering the bottom of the bowl, Zhao Dahua's eyes welled up with tears of grievance. Li Lao Er sighed and silently ate his rice.
Boss Li, ecstatic with his victory, began boasting to Li Yi as soon as he entered the house.
"Daughter, I've avenged you. I just beat up Li Jiamin and the head of the Li family."
Li Yiyi's eyes were still half-closed, and she managed to reply in her mind with difficulty.
Oh, Dad, you're amazing!
Whether it was just Li Laoda's imagination or not, he felt that his daughter was just going through the motions.
Children change every day. With good food and sound sleep, Li Yiyi gloriously transformed from an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan.
Her once wrinkled little face had grown up, and her round eyes darted around. Every time Li Laoda and Jiang Yuting looked at her, their hearts would melt. She had a delicate nose and tender red lips.
Perhaps due to the plot, Li Yiyi seems to fit the sickly character archetype perfectly. If it weren't for the ability to hear Li Yiyi's inner thoughts, both Li Laoda and Jiang Yuting would have thought that Li Yiyi had truly become a sickly person.
Her face was smaller than Jiang Yuting's palm, with large features and a small face, making her look even weaker. After her postpartum period, when people occasionally came to visit, rumors started circulating that Li Yiyi was premature and difficult to raise.
As a result, the Li family members would avoid Li the eldest whenever they saw him, and would never dare to provoke him if he wanted to do something wrong; they wished they could disappear on the spot.
The last time Li Laoda lost his temper, they tacitly assumed it was because he was implicated in something. The fact that their daughter, whom they had been hoping for for several years, was difficult to raise was a significant blow to Li Laoda and Jiang Yuting.
Because of Li Yiyi, the story of how Boss Li saved Old Man Li and the others by injuring their vital organs has been brought up again. Old Man Li and Old Woman Li are annoyed by this and want to say that Boss Li chopped them with an axe, but no one would believe them if they said it.
This is an honor for the production team.
Li Laoda also went from being a hooligan to a model youth, and their brigade even won a red flag for it. Anyone who slandered Li Laoda's reputation was no different from a sinner of the production team, even though this happened four or five years ago.
