Chapter 54 Boss Li: I Have a Job Now?

"Dad, Aunt Hua and the others look at you like they want to eat you alive."

"Dad, you've become the flesh of Tang Sanzang."

"Brother Li, how did you get this job? Tell your auntie."

Eyes were fixed on Boss Li, all eager to know how he got the job.

"Auntie, look at me all dressed up, don't I look drab and dusty?"

"Yes, what does this have to do with work, Boss Li?"

Upon closer inspection, it was clear that Boss Li was covered in dust and cobwebs.

“Aunt Hua, I earned this job with my life. You know the tree next to the post office, right? When I took my daughter there, we happened to see a family’s grandson climb up the tree, lose his balance, and fall down.”

The story told by Li Laoda was so dramatic and captivating that Aunt Hua and the others were completely mesmerized.

"Later, I rushed over without thinking and saved their child. It just so happened that they were moving their whole family, so they gave me their son's job. So, Aunt Hua, I really got this job by risking my life."

"Dad, you're just making this up."

Our clothes got dirty because we were eavesdropping by climbing over the wall.

You're just spreading misinformation; you'll corrupt me.

The disdainful look in her eyes was stopped by Li Laoda's hand. He was a man of great strategy and wouldn't stoop to his daughter's level.

He's not the one who's going to lead his daughter astray; she's a bad girl to begin with.

What Li Laoda said was reasonable and well-founded, and everything made sense. Aunt Hua and the others had nothing to say. Compared to Li Laosan's vague claim of saving people, they were more willing to believe what Li Laoda said.

"Brother Li, you're in for a treat now."

While feeling envious, I also sighed, wondering when such good fortune would fall on their side.

“Aunt Hua, what are you saying? It’s a blessing to have a daughter who is doing well. My job can only ease the burden on my family and prevent my parents from feeling embarrassed.”

He lowered his head sadly, leading Aunt Hua and the others to mistakenly believe that Li Laoda was upset about something that happened at home.

"Things will get better gradually, Boss Li, is this the medicine you prescribed for Yi Yi?"

They changed the subject, saying that Aunt Hua and her ilk always liked to gossip about people, but they never offered comfort. It was good enough if they didn't ask a few gossipy questions when someone was upset.

"Yes, the doctor said Yi Yi's health is not good. She needs to take medicine every month and needs to be well cared for. These few packets of medicine cost a total of twenty-three yuan and fifty cents. Aunt Hua, I wasn't lying to you. This job saved my daughter's life."

[Dad, what you said sounds so real, I almost believed it.]

"Dad, you made me pretend just now, wasn't it for the paycheck?"

I knew it; my dad wasn't a simple person.

Li Laoda gave Li Yiyi a mournful look, knowing that his daughter wanted to praise him for being smart.

Perhaps we can't use a better word, "thing," otherwise it'll easily ruin the effect!

Twenty-three!

Aunt Hua stared at Boss Li in disbelief, as if he were a fool.

"Boss, did you get ripped off? What kind of medicine costs 23 and needs to be prescribed every month?"

The other women didn't say anything, but their eyes conveyed a clear sense of disbelief, as if they were looking at a fool, and they suspected that Boss Li had been tricked.

"Aunt Hua, how could I possibly be cheated? The prescription and the receipt are still here. The prescription was issued by the health center."

An aunt who could read and had attended a literacy class took it and looked at it.

The document clearly states Li Yiyi's condition, the prescribed medication, and the final charges.

"It's true."

Aunt Hua and the others felt they had learned something new. One dose of medicine cost twenty-three yuan, and it had to be prescribed every month. No wonder Boss Li said what he did earlier.

The last vestiges of envy vanished, and Aunt Hua and the others were happy for Li Laoda.

"Brother Li, you've finally seen the light at the end of the tunnel."

Li Laoda agreed, saying that he had finally reaped the rewards after suffering so much, only realizing the truth after meeting his daughter.

Old Man Li and Old Woman Li can be ignored; at least they saved his life, and he doesn't mind a little food. But Li Fuyi and Li Laosan are different.

He's not his son, why would I take advantage of him?

"Thank you, Aunt Hua. As long as my daughter is alright, I'm willing to do anything."

A father's love is as steadfast as a mountain. Aunt Hua felt they were all inspired by Li Laoda; such a wonderful son, why wasn't he theirs?

[Dad, if you keep pretending, you're going too far. Don't you understand that too much of a good thing can be bad?]

But Dad, you're really cunning.

Li Yiyi finally understood what Boss Li was planning: the matter of his job couldn't be kept secret anymore, especially since it was a formal position at the meat processing plant.

Both Old Lady Li and Old Man Li dared to have their own ideas about Li Laosan, wanting him to give up his position to Li Laosi.

If this person were Li Laoda, Li Laotou and Li Laotai would have gone even further. Her father's move was called preemptive strike. Li Yiyi felt she understood and would try it in the future.

Back in the production team, news of Li Laoda's job spread throughout the team, thanks to Aunt Hua and the others. Also, the news that Li Yiyi's prescription cost twenty-three yuan and fifty cents also got around.

Before they could even feel envious, they were already happy for Li Laoda. Then, the topic shifted to Li Laosan and Li Fuyi. If they could befriend Li Fuyi, they would have good luck and get a job. They were willing to try.

Old Li and the others were unaware that Li Laoda had a job. They had just returned from work when Aunt Hua came back.

It has to be said that, in order to make Li Laosan suffer, Li Laotai and Li Laotou were even willing to sully themselves and go to work with him every day.

During the meal, Li Laoda and Jiang Yuting quickly finished their rice, and Li Yiyi's rice also went into Li Laoda's stomach. Old Mrs. Li didn't want to see or hear it.
