Mr. Zhao was even more pleased with Zhao Fangfang. He had thought that having a daughter was useless, but she turned out to be quite good. He would treat Zhao Fangfang better in the future, as wealth and honor were within his grasp.
Realizing he had gone too far, Zhao's father tried to say something to persuade them to stay, but Li Yiyi and the others had already politely left.
Watching Li Yiyi and the others leave, Zhao's father wanted to stop them and rekindle their relationship, but he was afraid of angering Jiang Cheng and the others.
"You slut, I've wasted my time raising you. You can't even rely on your own man."
He kicked Zhao Fangfang hard, and the table slammed against him with a loud bang. After all, it was a private kitchen; if the noise was too loud, someone would definitely come to investigate.
Zhao's father dared not kick her anymore, and could only torment Zhao Fangfang with his eyes. He had completely forgotten what he had said earlier about being kind to Zhao Fangfang.
Zhao's mother was not involved in the matter, but if the occasion hadn't been inappropriate, she would have liked to go up and give Zhao Fangfang a beating.
Zhao Fangfang stood up from the ground, standing timidly to the side, not daring to utter a sound. Looking closer, Zhao Fangfang's eyes were filled with hatred, her palms already red from being pinched. She was desperately enduring it.
"Uncle, Aunt, I have something I want to talk to you about. Please ask Fangfang to go out first."
"Mother, you go out first, I'll be out in a bit."
Li's mother glanced at Li Hun with concern, then left under Li Hun's unwavering gaze. Only Zhao Fangfang remained.
Zhao's parents didn't want to, but they had reservations, so they still called Zhao Fangfang out.
As soon as the door closed, Zhao's father struck first.
"Li Hun, I'm your uncle. Once I'm successful, I'll definitely help you out. I might even pay for your leg treatment. But the condition is that you have to watch your mouth. If you can't, your uncle will have to help you."
His words and actions were threatening; compared to wealth, Li Hun, his nephew, was no longer a threat.
Wanting Li Hun to retire was a previous idea, not a current one.
"That's right, Li Hun, you can't get jealous just because your uncle and I are doing well. Don't blame your uncle and me for being ruthless towards you then."
Zhao's mother also glared fiercely at Li Hun. The couple were equally ruthless and vain, a stark contrast to their previous fawning demeanor.
The more the two acted this way, the more Li Hun felt that staying to talk was the right thing to do.
Threats are nothing. Given enough leverage, he could make the two men in front of him kneel down and call him ancestor immediately. But there's no need. That would be too presumptuous. They're all relatives.
The word "relative" lingered in Li Hun's mind, making him even more enigmatic.
"Uncle and Aunt, do you want to have a son?"
Upon hearing this, Zhao's father and mother froze on the spot, not out of surprise, but out of sheer rage. If looks could kill, Li Hun would have died a thousand times over under their gazes.
"Li Hun, what do you mean? Are you deliberately trying to hit a nerve?"
Knowing full well that he is infertile, to still say such things is either to make a fool of him or to deliberately mock him.
Back then, after Zhao Fangfang was born, the couple was disappointed that she wasn't a son, but they thought they could have another child later, so they treated her quite well at first.
A year passed, then two, and by the time Zhao Fangfang was five years old, her mother still hadn't conceived. Faced with the ridicule of neighbors and the mockery of outsiders...
Zhao's father and mother started arguing, once a day and once every two days, and Zhao Fangfang became their common punching bag.
They'd almost broken up before they finally decided to spend some money to go to the hospital for a checkup. It turned out Zhao's mother was fine; the problem was with him.
They said he had some bad genes, that it was hard for women to get pregnant. I didn't quite understand, but then I realized it was because he couldn't let Zhao's mother have a child.
Having lost his initial confidence, Zhao's father had to beg and plead to keep Zhao's mother with him.
They couldn't have a son anymore, so what use was a daughter? Other thoughts began to sprout in their minds. If Zhao Fangfang hadn't taken over their son's path, they might have had a son.
The initial beatings were to vent my anger; the later beatings were to vent my hatred.
Daughters couldn't support them in their old age, and they couldn't have children, so their eyes fell on Li Hun.
Zhao's father and his family only had two siblings and no other relatives. Li's mother's son was practically their son, so they treated Li Hun exceptionally well.
They were basically accommodating to every request. Even though Li Hun's leg was broken and the two of them had some complaints, they didn't dare to break ties with Li Hun.
Before Li Hun suggested that Zhao Fangfang cling to Jiang Rongyi, Zhao's parents still held this view.
Unfortunately, after witnessing how wealthy Jiang Rong's family was, Zhao's parents' hearts changed.
Whether or not someone provides for their parents in old age depends on whether they have money or not. If a daughter has money, she can also support them in their old age. Based on this thinking...
Li Hun, who had once given them the advice, became a threat. Zhao's parents feared that Li Hun might say something to Jiang Rongyi, causing them to lose their wealth and good life.
But Li Hun's immediate question to Zhao's parents, asking if they wanted a son, was a silent provocation.
Two pairs of eyes glared at him angrily, but Li Hun felt no pressure whatsoever. Instead, amidst their shocked gazes, he slowly stood up and took several steps to the left and right.
He walked up to Zhao's father and mother and repeated what he had just said.
"Uncle, Aunt, do you want to have a son?"
The words "having a son" were like a curse, tightly binding the hearts of Zhao's father and mother.
The air suddenly felt much thinner, and Zhao's father and mother began to breathe rapidly and loudly, staring longingly at Li Hun.
They knew perfectly well how badly Li Hun's leg was broken; the bones were completely shattered, and there was no way he could ever stand up again.
But just now, Li Hun stood up, and not only that, he could walk.
If Li Hun's leg can heal, why can't they have children? So Li Hun's question to them just now wasn't meant to be sarcastic or mocking.
Realizing what had happened, Zhao's father and mother felt somewhat embarrassed, not because their words were offensive, but because they had to beg Li Hun after saying such hurtful things.
Li Hun sat back down in his original seat, remaining silent and quiet.
When he first made his move regarding Zhao Fangfang, Zhao's parents treated him like a god. But once he succeeded, they turned against him. Having learned from his first experience, Li Hun didn't want to make the same mistake twice.
He would make Zhao's parents understand that even if he had gotten involved with Jiang Rongyi and the others, he, Li Hun, was not someone they could bully. He wanted Zhao's parents to know...
They can never escape his grasp, neither in the past nor now.
“Nephew, I was a bit harsh just now, but you have to understand. I'm just young and impatient. What if I accidentally let something slip? Our two families have worked so hard to plan this, we can't let it all go to waste.”
Pushed along by Zhao's mother, Zhao's father stepped forward and stammered out these words, trying his best to make amends. He didn't want to come out either.
But he wanted a son, and his inability to have children was his problem; he couldn't push Zhao's mother to step forward.
“Li Hun, what your uncle said is the truth. Your uncle and aunt have no ill intentions towards you. They are just afraid of letting something slip.”
Zhao's father and mother stood awkwardly to the side, cautiously watching Li Hun, hoping for a response.
