Jiang Yuting didn't deal with the stone steps. Instead, she sat on a stool under the eaves, waiting for Boss Li to return from work so she could explain the situation to him.
The male and female leads also mentioned that they wanted Boss Li to be careful and not to cause any major trouble.
Sending money to the male lead and supporting male characters is something Li Fuyi is not worthy of. However, since it concerns her own daughter, Jiang Yuting develops a deep sense of apprehension towards Li Fuyi.
After the great calamity passed, Li Yiyi fell asleep again. After all, she was just a fetus, and her time at consciousness was limited.
On Li Laoda's side, it was less about going to work and more about slacking off. Li Laoda and the team leader, Li Fumin, had grown up together, and when Li Laoda uttered a sound, he instantly understood what was going on.
When assigning tasks, they deliberately gave Li Laoda a spot near the back of the mountain. Li Laotai glared at her, knowing that Li Laoda definitely wouldn't get any work points today.
Wang Yiting, furious, twisted Li Laosan's arm hard. Li Laosan was equally upset; seeing that Li Laotai and Li Laotou remained silent, he concluded that they were biased.
"Father, Mother, is it because my eldest brother isn't going to work...?"
"Li Laosan, I think you're asking for a beating. Where did the eldest brother go to work? Are you just jealous of your brother's success?"
"Mother, it's not that I didn't do it."
"snort."
With a sigh, Old Lady Li couldn't stand Li Laosan's timid attitude towards his wife, especially after marrying Wang Yiting, that troublemaker. Although the eldest son didn't have any work points, he would occasionally go to the back mountain to get meat. It was clear he was lacking something; only Li Laosan and Wang Yiting, those two shallow-minded people, couldn't see through it.
If it weren't for Fu Bao's sake, she would have already reassigned the person.
When Li Laoda went up the mountain, he was more agile than before. He had learned a little from the hunters who lived in the mountains before, and catching pheasants and rabbits was no problem for him.
His daughter loves gold, so he plans to hunt more game and try to exchange it for gold on the black market. Once his daughter is born, he can put gold in her mouth, thus fulfilling her wish to have gold in her mouth.
The harvest was a bit better than before. Old Li hid the goods on the mountain, then took two rather thin pheasants back via a side path, leaving one in Li Fumin's yard.
Relationships deepen through interaction; he can't always get Li Fumin's help without giving him something in return.
The other one, Li Laoda, carried home. Just as he opened the door, Li Fuyi stood there, looking quite pretty.
"Uncle, you're back."
Looking behind Li Laoda, Li Fuyi's eyes narrowed with a smile when she saw the pheasant.
"Uncle, you're amazing! I can eat chicken legs again."
Li Fuyi started bouncing around in front of Li Laoda, her adorable appearance quite captivating. Li Laoda liked her very much and was just about to reach out to pick her up as he used to when Jiang Yuting's voice reached his ears.
"Aiguo, come inside. I have something to tell you."
She hadn't been on guard before, thinking that a five-year-old like Li Fuyi couldn't possibly have much on her mind. But after her daughter's reminder, she realized many things were much clearer.
Li Fuyi had wanted to clean the toad grease off the stone steps in front of the door more than once, but she kept glancing at it furtively while sitting by the door.
When Li Laoda returned, the first thing he did was go to the door to greet her. As he had done countless times before, his scrutinizing gaze made Jiang Yuting very uncomfortable. It seemed, just as Li Yiyi had said, that his family existed solely to serve Li Fuyi.
Thinking back, every time Old Master Li brought back game, the best parts were always eaten by Li Fuyi. Although it was Old Lady Li who made the decision, that was the reality.
Whatever she had, Li Fuyi would take it all, by sheer coincidence. A child wouldn't need much, so with that in mind, she gave it to her. If you count it carefully, the eldest branch of the family gave Li Fuyi quite a lot of things.
When his wife spoke, Li Laoda came running over like a puppy, completely forgetting about Li Fuyi.
The door closed, Li Fuyi's eyes darted around, then she went to get a small broom.
"Wife, what did you call me in for? Was our daughter good today? Did she cause you any trouble? I caught a lot of things today. If I take them out and exchange them, I think I can get a gold bracelet for our daughter."
Once inside, Boss Li's mouth never stopped.
In this day and age, meat is more expensive than gold. You could trade even the meager catch from the mountains for a small yellow croaker, let alone a gold bracelet.
"stop--"
Jiang Yuting tore open the paper covering the window a little, just enough for her and Boss Li to see.
"What is it?"
Li Aiguo dismissed it, thinking, "So what if Li Fuyi is sweeping the floor? What's the big deal?"
I hope that after his daughter is born, she will be as sensible as Li Fuyi.
Li Yiyi in her sleep: She is my bad luck.
“Li Aiguo, toad oil has been smeared on the stone steps.”
"What!"
"Keep your voice down."
Jiang Yuting slapped Li Laoda across the face, glanced at Li Fuyi, and only breathed a sigh of relief after Li Fuyi left.
"Wife, are you telling the truth? There really is toad oil smeared on the stone steps."
Li Laoda's eyes bulged, bloodshot with rage, but not at Jiang Yuting.
"Is it true? My daughter reminded me, otherwise..."
Jiang Yuting didn't finish her sentence, but Li Laoda understood. It's not unusual for an ordinary person to fall down the stone steps and get hurt, but Jiang Yuting, a pregnant woman, fell while they were all in the fields and only Li Fuyi was at home. They knew the consequences; it could very well be a fatal accident involving both mother and child.
"Wife, who did this?"
What do you think?
His hand fell limply to his side. Old Li couldn't accept this outcome. He truly treated Li Fuyi like a niece; otherwise, who could have gotten anything from him?
Jiang Yuting gave Li Laoda a comforting hug. She understood his heart, but it was precisely because she understood that she found it terrifying.
