Chapter 447

Chapter 447

"She said we should help each other more." Zhong Lan continued.

Cui Li had long since given up hope in her family. They had treated her like she was dead, and so had she. Today, seeing Zhong Lan's family come to see her, she sighed, moved by the sight. After that, she felt alright, and went about her business.

Facing Zhong Lan and her family's kind words, Cui Li smiled and nodded: "Yes."

She added, "I've almost learned all the characters you taught me last time. If you're free one day, please teach me some more."

Ye Fuyue and Zhong Lan had been teaching Cui Li how to read. Because Ye Fuyue was too busy and had her own family to take care of, Zhong Lan taught her more.

Every time Zhong Lan taught Cui Li to read, Yao Zaoer, Huan Di and Lai Bao would follow and learn together. Therefore, Zhong Lan quite enjoyed teaching Cui Li to read.

"I'm free tonight, I'll teach you in the evening." Zhong Lan said.

Cui Li's lips curled up even more: "Okay."

Although her family treated her badly and didn't even let her go to school, wanting to marry her off early in exchange for a good dowry to marry off her brothers, she could be good to herself and learn more, just like those who had gone to school.

Ye Fuyue smiled with satisfaction as she watched them supporting each other.

"Fu Yue, Gui Feng." Someone suddenly shouted outside the shop.

Ye Fuyue turned her head and saw that it was Aunt Donghong and her daughter-in-law Miao Xiaomei.

Ever since Miao Xiaomei went to college, Ye Fuyue has been busy with her studies, making money, and taking care of her three children, so she has rarely seen Miao Xiaomei.

"Fu Yue, Aunt Guifeng." Miao Xiaomei greeted Ye Fu Yue and Chen Guifeng with a smile.

Ye Fuyue also greeted her.

"I heard your bun shop opened, so I brought Xiaomei to take a look." Aunt Donghong said with a smile, "Originally, on the first day of your opening, I wanted to come with the other people from the compound to show my support, but Xiaomei said she wanted to come and see it too, so I waited until she was free on vacation before coming over with her."

Aunt Donghong paused and then said, "Is your business doing well?"

"It's okay." Ye Fuyue said.

"It's more than okay." Aunt Donghong said, "I heard from those people who came last time. They said your business is booming. There are always many people lining up to buy every morning."

"It's true that mornings are the busiest, and this is just the hard-earned money we earn." Ye Fuyue said with a smile.

"It's bound to be hard work, but as long as business is good, that's all that's fine," said Aunt Donghong.

She asked Miao Xiaomei: "What do you want to eat?"

"I want a steamed bun with pickled mustard greens and a portion of fermented rice wine and eggs." Miao Xiaomei said softly.

"Don't you want to eat meat buns?" Aunt Donghong asked her.

"I don't want to eat." Miao Xiaomei said.

"How can you not eat meat buns? I heard that their meat buns are the best-selling ones. It's rare for us to eat out, so of course we have to eat good food." Aunt Donghong thought that Miao Xiaomei was afraid of spending money, so she said she didn't want to eat meat buns.

"Give me two meat buns, a vermicelli bun, and a serving of peanut cheese." Aunt Donghong said.

Miao Xiaomei and Aunt Donghong sat down in the store.

"Fu Yue, who was in charge of the shop when you were in school?" Miao Xiaomei asked curiously.

"Zhong Lan and Cui Li are in charge. They usually take care of it more, so I don't worry too much." Ye Fuyue said.

"You are so amazing. You didn't miss school or making money." Miao Xiaomei said enviously.

Ye Fuyue smiled calmly.

"You two are the envy of everyone in this compound," Chen Guifeng said. "Everyone says your relationship is getting better and better. They also say that apart from Fu Yue and me, there are only a few other mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationships as good as yours in this compound."

Aunt Donghong smiled proudly and said, "I don't deny this. Xiaomei and I are indeed getting along better and better."

Miao Xiaomei smiled shyly with her lips pursed.

"Oh?" Chen Guifeng's curiosity ignited: "How did you two become so close?"

Ye Fuyue still remembered that Aunt Donghong had complained about her daughter-in-law at her house before. The gist of it was that Miao Xiaomei had a weird personality, was a bit pretentious, and not very sociable.

She also remembered that Miao Xiaomei and Aunt Donghong's relationship was not so close before. At least, she had never seen Miao Xiaomei and Aunt Donghong go out together.

Aunt Donghong looked at Miao Xiaomei, not knowing what to say or whether she should say it.

Miao Xiaomei, on the other hand, said generously, "It's mainly because of me. I used to have some prejudice against my mother-in-law. I always heard people around me say how badly their mother-in-law treated them after they got married. As a result, I have some preconceived hostility towards my mother-in-law. I always felt that she actually didn't like me and was just pretending. I felt that every word she said was a veiled criticism of me."

"Then how did you later discover that your mother-in-law was actually a nice person?" Chen Guifeng asked curiously.

"Because of having children." Miao Xiaomei said: "After I went to college, there were two people in our dormitory who were married like me, but they both had children. They were very surprised to find out that I had been married for two years and still had no children. They asked me if my mother-in-law was always pushing me and disliked me for not getting pregnant. I said my mother-in-law never said that to me. They said that my mother-in-law must have disliked me behind my husband's back, and that there is no mother-in-law who doesn't dislike her daughter-in-law. Even though I am in college now, my mother-in-law will force me to get pregnant quickly."

"I didn't plan to get pregnant while I was in school. If I wanted to, I wanted to wait until after graduation. I was worried that my mother-in-law would agree with them and pressure me to get pregnant quickly, so I told my husband about it and stressed that I would never get pregnant now. He said I was overthinking it, saying that my mother-in-law had asked him when we planned to have a child before, but she hadn't asked about it since I went to college."

"I didn't believe my husband's words and felt he was protecting his own mother. I was afraid my mother-in-law would really force me to get pregnant quickly, so I wanted to take the initiative and make my position clear to her. But after I told her about it, she said she thought the same as me: since I was going to school, I should focus on my studies and I could talk about having children after I graduated."

"I was surprised at the time and thought she was just being nice, but she didn't really mean it. I asked my mother-in-law, 'If I have another child after graduating from university, won't my relatives and neighbors laugh at me?'"

"How did you reply?" Chen Guifeng couldn't help but ask Aunt Donghong.

Aunt Donghong smiled brightly and said, "I say, let them laugh at you if they want to. They've laughed at you enough for not getting pregnant. But the mouth is on someone else's body, but you have to live your life yourself. If you're always afraid of being laughed at, you won't be able to live your life well."
