Chapter 84
Yao Yi went directly to school.
She had originally wanted to buy some steamed buns for breakfast at the state-owned restaurant, but when she felt in her pocket, she realized she had no tickets. Otherwise, she wouldn't have compromised with Lei's mother and taken on all the housework, working like a slave for them.
When she thought of this, Yao Yi's already restless heart became even more restless. Thinking that it had been so long since she returned to her parents' home, and Lei Xiao hadn't come to pick her up, Yao Yi felt even more resentful and angry.
She had a sullen face all the time, and even the teacher in the office noticed that she was not in a good mood today.
"Teacher Yao, what's wrong with you today? Are you feeling unwell?" a female teacher asked with concern.
Yao Yi was furious. Everything she heard sounded like gossip and ridicule. She felt that the female teacher was pretending to care about her, but in reality, she was making fun of her.
"I'm not feeling unwell, I'm fine." Yao Yi said stiffly, and went out with the lesson plan and textbook.
The female teacher had good intentions, but Yao Yi retorted back in such a way that she felt a little embarrassed.
The older teacher nearby comforted her, "You've only been here a short time, so you don't know what Teacher Yao's temper is like yet. That's just how she is. From now on, if you see anything wrong with her, don't bother with her. She simply despises everyone's kindness and thinks everyone is laughing at her."
The female teacher nodded in understanding.
She had just arrived and had wanted to be friendly and build good relationships with the teachers. But since Yao Yi was like that, she wouldn't have to be so rude.
today
The first class was Yao Yi’s Chinese class.
Before she even walked into the classroom, she heard a loud noise in the classroom, which made her head explode and made her even more annoyed.
Yao Yi walked in quickly and threw the lesson plan and textbook in her hands heavily onto the podium.
"What are you making so much noise for! The bell for class has been ringing for a while. Are you deaf? Didn't you hear it?" Yao Yi yelled.
Her throw and yell were quite effective, instantly quieting the noisy classroom.
But the silence lasted only three seconds, as the troublemakers in the class continued to play and fight, completely ignoring her.
Yao Yi teaches Chinese to fourth graders. However, in this era, with the cancellation of the college entrance exam, many families believe that going to school is pointless. They generally don't actively send their children to school once they reach school age, but instead delay it as much as possible, sending them when they feel like it.
Therefore, the ages of students in a class are often mixed, with some being nine years old and some thirteen or fourteen years old.
Also, because of the times, most people felt that studying was useless. They did not respect teachers as much as later generations did, and often did not take teachers seriously, especially these few troublemakers.
Yao Yi, aware of her situation, usually turned a blind eye. She would speak on stage, and those students who wanted to make trouble would be allowed to do so. After all, it was these students who were not learning anything, and it wouldn't cost her a cent of her salary.
But today, Yao Yi was feeling a pang of anger. From this morning until now, nothing had gone right for her, everyone was against her, and she couldn't let go of the anger she was feeling, and she was looking for a way to vent it.
Seeing these 13 or 14-year-old kids still fighting, Yao Yi was so angry that her face turned blue. She yelled, "Didn't you hear the bell? Why don't you go back to your seats!"
The tallest boy glanced at Yao Yi and said nonchalantly, "I heard you, teacher. You can start the class now. It's not like we can't hear you."
"Yeah!" echoed several boys who were playing with him.
Yao Yi's face was a little embarrassed, her chest heaving violently with anger. She gritted her teeth and said again, "Go back to your seats!"
The tallest boy casually picked up an empty chair nearby and placed it heavily on the ground. However, he did not sit down. Instead, he glared at Yao Yi with a sidelong glance, as if ready to fight.
The ferocity on his face and the thud of the chair being put down just now startled Yao Yi, and her rationality returned a little.
She remembered that this group of students became lawless and even dared to beat teachers. Several teachers in the school had been beaten by students, regardless of whether they were male or female.
Yao Yi was very sure that if she continued talking, these students would definitely throw chairs at her.
Her face turned pale, she stiffened her neck, opened the lesson plan, and started teaching as if nothing had happened.
Seeing that she was scared, those troublemakers laughed at her without restraint.
Yao Yi didn't dare to get angry anymore. She pretended not to hear anything and remained calm while attending class.
After finally finishing two classes, Yao Yi took the lesson plan and textbook and fled from the classroom.
After what happened in the classroom, she regained her composure and was no longer as angry as she had been in the morning.
She began to get anxious, wondering whether Lei Xiao would come to pick her up.
If it is true as Yao's father said, and Lei Xiao never comes to pick her up, what should she do?
The reason why she ran back to her mother's home was not because she wanted to stay there forever. She just wanted to show Lei Xiao and the Lei family that she was not so easy to control. She had a home and family to support her.
But what should she do if Lei Xiao doesn't buy it at all?
Yao Yi panicked. This was the first time she thought about this problem seriously.
Yao Yi left work before noon. Instead of going home, she ran as fast as she could to the high school where Lei Xiao worked and found a secluded place at the door to wait for him.
As of today, she has been angry and returned to her parents' home for nine days. She wants to see how Lei Xiao reacts during her absence and whether he plans to take her back to the Lei family.
Lei Xiao didn't come out of the school until noon when it was time to get off work.
Seeing Lei Xiao's tall figure, Yao Yi felt a little sour in her nose and a feeling of longing surged in her heart.
She hadn't seen Lei Xiao for several days and missed him a lot. She wondered if Lei Xiao missed her as much as she did.
Yao Yi followed Lei Xiao.
She didn't follow too closely, as she didn't want Lei Xiao to discover her.
As she followed Lei Xiao, she prayed in her heart that Lei Xiao must go to the staff quarters of the first factory to pick her up!
However, after following for a distance, Yao Yi's heart sank.
This is definitely the direction back to the Lei family, not to the factory staff housing estate.
But she didn't give up.
It is also possible that Lei Xiao changed his mind halfway and decided to go to Yao's house to pick her up.
She followed Lei Xiao all the way, feeling disappointed and unwilling at times, until she saw Lei Xiao enter the Lei family with her own eyes. She stood outside for a while, still unwilling to give up. After she was sure that Lei Xiao would not come out of the house, she left with complete despair.
Lei Xiao returned home and stood behind the window. Seeing Yao Yi had left, he said to Lei's mother without any expression, "She's gone."
In fact, he had just come out of school and he noticed Yao Yi when she followed him at a distance.
