Chapter 49 Today's Prophecy, Tomorrow's Truth
"You don't need to wait twenty years. You'll break your leg today. You'll find out tomorrow."
Qin Jin'an looked at the old man and shook his head.
The old man's five palaces were shrouded in dark energy, and his life palace was afflicted by evil spirits, indicating that a great disaster was about to occur. She vaguely saw that his legs could not move, and with her intelligence, she immediately realized that the disaster was related to this.
"And you, you'll get a beating when you get home today."
Qin Jin'an then looked at the woman and spoke directly.
The woman's face was calm, but she immediately became furious: "That's impossible! I... I'll definitely come back tomorrow to expose you!"
She had already decided to sell her child into a wealthy family as a servant, but after this disruption, she dared not sell him and was very flustered.
Now this child is saying she'll get beaten when she gets home, which really makes her angry. She's pregnant, and her man cherishes her so much, how could he possibly beat her!
"I'll be here waiting for you all tomorrow morning. Whoever doesn't come will have bad luck for a year. I swear, and you swear too!"
Qin Jin'an raised his hand and solemnly swore an oath.
A vow is bound by the will of Heaven. Those who break a vow may not seem to suffer any immediate harm, but their luck will diminish and they will experience setbacks.
People watched with great interest, and when Qin Jin'an made his oath, they started making noise.
"If a child dares to swear such an oath, are you afraid of a child?"
"Swear it quickly! We want to see if it works tomorrow. If it doesn't, I'll never have my fortune told again."
"Yeah, yeah, if this works, any one of you will become famous."
People were discussing it enthusiastically.
"I swear it! I'll come to set up my stall every day. Even if I break my leg, I'll have someone carry me here!"
The old man swore first. He had been a fortune teller for many years and had glimpsed some things, but he didn't believe anyone could be so accurate as to say he would break his leg today! That's ridiculous!
If it were that accurate, would it still be called fortune telling? We should just call her a deity.
The woman didn't believe it either, and she said, "Fine, I'll definitely come tomorrow. I don't believe you can be so sure!"
"Let's get this straight, what are you going to do if you don't allow it?"
The old man looked at Qin Jin'an, sized him up, and became increasingly uncomfortable. He felt ashamed to embarrass a child, but he was also unhappy about letting it go.
"If I don't allow it, I'll give each of you one hundred taels!"
Qin Jin'an said with a smile.
"You don't look like a rich person."
The old man spoke sarcastically, saying that although the child's face was complicated and unclear, her clothes were genuine; they were plain and simple, and it was clear that she couldn't afford expensive clothes.
"I really don't have any money, because I won't lose."
Qin Jin'an was honest; of course she couldn't come up with that much money, because she didn't need to.
“Arrogant. I don’t need any money. If you lose, just light a lamp for me and kowtow nine times.”
The old man stroked his beard, narrowed his eyes, and spoke.
Qin Jin'an nodded: "Okay."
"If you lose, I don't want a hundred taels, just give me one tael of silver. If you can't afford it, your family can. But if you apologize now, I can pretend that what just happened never happened."
The woman glanced at Qin Tianhai. One hundred taels was too much, but one tael was not too little either. She couldn't afford one hundred taels, but she could afford one tael.
But she didn't want people to think she was greedy, so she deliberately and generously said that if she apologized now, she would pretend that nothing had happened.
Before Qin Jin'an could speak, Qin Tianhai stepped forward and said, "One tael of silver is no problem. Let's see what happens tomorrow."
Qin Tianhai took Qin Jin'an's hand and turned to leave, and people made way for him.
After they left, the woman looked at the old man with a puzzled expression and asked, "Master, is my daughter truly an unlucky person?"
Although she didn't quite believe it, twenty years seemed like such a long time.
But what if this child really becomes a female general? If she becomes the first female general in the court, what an honor that would be!
Anyway, raising a child means having more food to eat. If she becomes a female general in the future, how much money could she possibly earn? Raising one child would bring prosperity to her whole family. That's incredibly tempting.
"If you don't believe me, I don't need to say more. She says your daughter is destined for greatness, but in my opinion, she's destined for a short life. No need to say more, we'll see tomorrow."
The old man didn't want to talk. To ensure that nothing went wrong and that he wouldn't be targeted for revenge, he decided to pack up and go home now.
Stay home and sleep through the night, then come back tomorrow to vent your frustrations!
The old man packed his things and left.
Seeing that the main characters had all left, the audience dispersed as well.
The woman led the child away.
——
After Qin Tianhai led Qin Jin'an away from the crowd, he finally asked, "Yu Bao, is this okay for you?"
He wasn't worried about anything else, not even losing face or losing money; he just wanted his child to get better and avoid any further damage.
Even though he didn't understand medicine, he could tell that the child was very weak.
Even though Qin Jin'an usually eats well and has gained some weight recently, it can't hide her poor spirits. In the eyes of her family, it's a blessing from heaven that she's not sick.
"Grandpa, don't worry, I'm saving her. If I don't, this young lady will be sold soon and she will die."
"And that woman's baby was also going to die, so I saved two lives."
Qin Jin'an felt very proud; she had saved someone's life.
That woman wasn't bad; she was just selfish because she had her own child and didn't want to raise a child she wasn't related to by blood. She felt that if the child wasn't her own, she could never truly bond with her.
So when she had her own child, she would try every means to get rid of her daughter.
“Yu Bao, Grandpa doesn’t understand these things either, but Grandpa, your uncle, and your mother will always be behind you.”
Qin Tianhai knew he couldn't help Qin Jin'an; he just wanted the child to know that they would be there for her whenever she needed them.
"Yes, thank you, Grandpa. I'm so happy, I feel so comfortable."
Qin Jin'an nodded with a smile. The care and love from those who cherish her made her feel happy and comfortable. Their love was nourishing.
Qin Jin'an roughly understood that she had to walk her own path. She didn't understand anything, but she wasn't afraid because she had many people who cared about her.
The two returned to South Street and met with Madam Qin, neither of them mentioning what had happened.
Qin Jin'an was carried onto the oxcart and fell asleep before they even left the city.
After she fell asleep, Qin asked, "Father, where did you take our precious baby?"
Qin Tianhai thought for a moment and then explained the matter in detail. After he finished, he said, "I told you so that you wouldn't worry too much. Yu Bao didn't tell you because she didn't want you to worry. You can do it, right?"
Madam Qin nodded: "Father, don't worry, I can do it. I just feel sorry for my darling, there's nothing I can do to help her."
