Chapter 67 The Captain Agrees

"Isn't this simple? I said that we should go to the back mountain to dig some wild vegetables before the rain gets too heavy, but when I changed my mind, I heard someone calling for help in the cowshed. We had no choice but to come here. When we arrived at the cowshed, we found that Grandma Shen had a fever and was sick."

After saying that, Su Mianmian looked at Old Lady Shen again and blinked.

“Grandma Shen, it’s up to you from now on.”

After listening to the conversation between the two, everyone felt that something was wrong.

After hearing this, Mrs. Shen grabbed Su Mianmian's hand and said quickly, "No, this is too dangerous. What if the team finds out about our relationship?"

Jiang Ya: "Yes, Mianmian, don't take any risks, we can just make do with it."

“Yes, yes, listen to your Grandma Shen and Aunt Jiang, and don’t take any risks.” Old Master Shen said in a deep voice.

Su Mianmian shook her head. "Grandpa Shen, Grandma Shen, the team leader is a good person. I believe he will agree. We just need to be careful so they don't find out."

After Su Mianmian finished speaking, she pulled her parents' hands.

Wen Yuexian sighed upon seeing this, "Mianmian, we can't let you take any risks."

Shen Yuandao, who had been silent, whispered, "Grandpa and grandma, how can we not worry about you being here? Besides, if it rains heavily and something happens to you, what should we do?"

Old Master Shen glanced at the thatched hut in the cowshed, closed his eyes to make a decision, and soon opened his eyes.

"Okay, but if the captain disagrees, forget it. Don't let me cause you any trouble."

Su Mianmian and Shen Yuandao breathed a sigh of relief after hearing this.

When the two heard that they agreed, they turned around and left the cowshed and went to the captain's house.

The captain's house was far from the cowshed, and the rain was getting heavier, making the road difficult to walk on. The two men were wearing cloth shoes and kept slipping.

The two of them walked supporting each other for about twenty minutes before they arrived at the captain's house. Su Mianmian took a deep breath and gently knocked on the wooden door.

Soon, Aunt Cai's voice came from the room, and there was a hint of surprise in her voice: "Here you are, who is it?"

Then, Aunt Cai opened the gate and saw two young educated youth. A hint of doubt flashed in her eyes.

"Xiao Su, the educated youth, why are you here?" Aunt Cai asked curiously.

Su Mianmian smiled slightly and replied, "Aunt, we are here to look for the captain uncle."

Aunt Cai nodded, called out into the house, and then warmly invited the two of them into the house.

She was busy pouring a cup of hot sugar water for Su Mianmian and Shen Yuandao. The sweet sugar water seemed particularly warm in the cold rainy night.

Soon, the captain came in.

When he saw the two of them, he was slightly stunned, and then asked: "Shen Zhiqing, is there something going on between you two?"

Shen Yuandao took a deep breath and told the captain the situation in the cowshed in detail: "Uncle Captain, the roof of the cowshed is leaking. One of the old ladies is sick and the condition is very serious."

The captain looked puzzled, "How did you know?"

Su Mianmian quickly stepped forward and said, "It wasn't raining heavily this morning, so I figured I didn't have to go to work, so I dragged Shen Zhiqing with me to the back mountain to try my luck and see if I could find any wild animals. As we were coming down the mountain, we heard someone calling for help from the cowshed, and we only found out when we went in."

The captain thought that the back mountain was indeed not far from the cowshed, so he nodded.

But she frowned when she thought of the situation in the bullpen. It was obvious that this problem made him feel difficult:

"Leaking is not a solution. Besides, the old lady is sick."

He lowered his head in thought, as if weighing the pros and cons.

Seeing this, the two men were not in a hurry to urge the captain to make a decision.

The captain paced in the room with a worried look on his face. "But there's no place to live here." He sighed helplessly.

Su Mianmian's lips curled up slightly, revealing a hint of a smile. She said softly, "Captain, this is indeed a problem. If I'm staying here, most villagers don't want to be associated with people of bad backgrounds. It's human nature."

After hearing this, the captain looked at Su Mianmian with a look of "you understand me", as if he had found a soulmate.

He nodded and said, "Yes, regardless of whether there is a place to live or not, even if the people in this village do have a place to live, they won't easily let those people in the cowshed stay there."

Neither Su Mianmian nor Shen Yuandao spoke this time, and the captain fell into deep thought again.

After a long while, the captain seemed to have made up his mind. He looked up at the two of them and said, "Or, let them live in my house." There was helplessness in his tone.

After hearing this, Shen Yuandao immediately shook his head and refused, “Uncle Captain, this is not appropriate.”

He whispered, his tone filled with worry.

The captain turned to look at him and asked, "What do you mean?"

Shen Yuandao explained: "You are the captain of the Sanyang Brigade. If you let someone with too much mouth say it, you might end up... "

The captain hesitated after hearing this. He knew that what Shen Yuandao said made sense, but he couldn't just watch those people in the cowshed encounter an accident.

"How about this," Su Mianmian thought for a moment and finally proposed a solution, "Why don't we find a few households close to the cowshed and have them move in until the rain stops."

The captain nodded slightly after hearing this, then hesitated, "But... your two families are the closest to the cowshed!"

Su Mianmian and Shen Yuandao both looked embarrassed after hearing this.

Shen Yuandao hesitated for a moment and said, "Uncle Captain, this... We are all educated youth. It's not a good idea to rashly bring those 'bad elements' home. What if the news gets out..."

Su Mianmian also nodded in agreement, with a look of rejection on her face, "Yes, Captain."

Seeing this, the captain spoke in a deep voice.

"Don't worry, you two. I promise not to let the villagers gossip. Besides, if you two families don't want the people in the cowshed, then it has to be other people in the village. When they find out, they will only be grateful to you. Why would they say anything?"

The captain thought that staying with these two families was a good choice, so he continued to persuade them, "Your two families are close to the cowshed, and most people won't bother you. I will inform the villagers one by one later to stop them from saying anything. Don't worry, with me here, the villagers won't say anything."

Seeing that the situation was almost settled, Su Mianmian and Shen Yuandao stopped pretending and nodded in agreement.

"Okay, Captain, we will follow your arrangements. But you must keep it a secret for us and don't let people gossip about it." Su Mianmian said worriedly.

The captain nodded repeatedly, "Don't worry, Xiao Su Zhiqing, I, as the captain, still have some prestige."

At this moment, there was a sudden loud "boom" and the deafening thunder scared the captain.

Before they could react, they heard heavy rain outside, and the rain suddenly became heavier.

Several people's faces changed, and the captain spoke first, "Let's settle your two families first. Come on, let's go to the cowshed."
