Chapter 36 Going to the Mountain

Some were packing up their hoes and sickles, some were tidying up their ropes and baskets. Everyone hoped to have all their farm tools and supplies packed up before the rain came.

Su Mianmian and the others also quickly packed up their things.

Then they went to where the farm tools were kept and put them away.

In this kind of weather, the rain may pour down at any time.

Su Mianmian was afraid that her younger brother would catch a cold, so she quickly held the little guy in her arms.

Shen Yuandao also picked up He Youan and said, “Aunt, I’ll go back first.”

Yun Shu frowned. "You go back. I'll just hold the kid. It would be bad if he gets caught in the rain."

Shen Yuandao said nothing, holding He Youan and following behind Su Mianmian.

Seeing this, Qin Huaichuan comforted her, "Aunt Shu, Ayuan and I will take you back. We can run fast."

Yun Shu looked at the people walking away and stopped refusing. He followed the two of them and hurried home.

As the dark clouds in the sky grew thicker, the wind began to howl.

The wind rustled the leaves and raised the dust.

Su Mianmian quickened her pace. The Yun family was not far from the threshing ground, and they soon arrived home.

After sending them home, Shen Yuandao and Qin Huaichuan hurried back to the educated youth site. Halfway through the journey, it started to rain heavily.

When the two arrived at the educated youth site, they were already soaked, and they hurriedly changed their clothes.

Song Hongmei cooked a pot of ginger soup. After Shen Yuandao and Qin Huaichuan came to thank her, they each drank a bowl and felt better.

In the Yun family's small house, Su Mianmian, Yun Shu and others sat together, and Su Mianmian and the children watched Yun Shu sew shoe soles.

At around four o'clock in the afternoon, the rain outside finally stopped.

Su Mianmian's heart moved. She hadn't been to the mountain since she came here. Thinking of the martial arts she had learned, she decided to try her luck and see if she could find something good.

She lowered her head slightly and said to Su Yan, who was reading a comic book beside her: "Ayan, I have to go out for a while. You wait here obediently."

Su Yanshu and He Youan were watching with great interest. Upon hearing this, they just casually waved their hands to indicate that they understood.

Yun Shu watched Su Mianmian getting ready to go out, and reminded her with some concern, "It just rained, and the roads are all muddy. Why don't we go tomorrow?"

Su Mianmian looked at the accumulated water in the yard that had not yet completely receded, and she was indeed a little hesitant.

But she thought that she might have to start work tomorrow, so she wouldn't have much time to go to the mountains.

So, she smiled at Yun Shu and comforted her, "Aunt Shu, don't worry, I'm in good hands and feet, and I'll be back soon."

Seeing her insistence, Yun Shu nodded and warned, "Then be careful. How about I go with you?"

Su Mianmian quickly waved her hand and refused: "No, no, I can go by myself. Aunt Shu, don't worry."

After saying that, she quickly put on her shoes, put on her small backpack and went out.

She knew that if she went up the mountain she would have to pass by the cowshed. After thinking about it, she decided to bring some food to the cowshed on her way down the mountain.

I think the food she sent last time should have been almost eaten.

Because the road was slippery, Su Mianmian did not go deep into the forest, but just wandered around the periphery, hoping to encounter some pheasants or rabbits.

With this thought in mind, she carefully lifted her foot and prepared to move forward.

However, just as she was about to take the next step, she suddenly felt a strange touch under her feet.

She looked down and her face turned pale with fright.

It turned out that she stepped on a frog!

I saw that the frog was dying at this moment, lying helplessly on the ground.

"Ah!" Su Mianmian screamed and instinctively jumped back, fearing that the frog would suddenly jump up.

She opened her eyes wide, stared at the frog, and shuddered all over.

She had been afraid of creatures like snakes and frogs since she was a child, and at that moment she felt a strong sense of discomfort and nausea.

Su Mianmian took a deep breath and then ran as if something terrible was chasing her.

She ran very fast, and she could only feel her heart beating faster and her breathing becoming rapid.

After running for a while, Su Mianmian finally stopped. She bent over, supported her knees with her hands, and gasped for breath.

Her face was full of fear and exhaustion. It took her a while to calm down and slowly stand up.

The appearance of a frog completely dispelled Su Mianmian's idea of continuing to look for wild animals.

An inexplicable fear began to surge in her heart, fearing that a snake would suddenly appear.

The more she thought about it, the stronger her fear became.

She looked around and suddenly realized that she was lost.

She had just panicked and ran in a random direction, and she was already a little directionally challenged. Now, she seemed to be trapped in the mountains.

Su Mianmian began to think of countermeasures. She looked back at the road she came from and found many muddy footprints left behind.

Because it had just rained, her footprints were still very clear.

She could only retrace her steps, but she might encounter the frog.

After some entanglement and struggle, she felt a little tired, so she sat on the stone next to her to rest.

Just as she was about to take a breath, she suddenly heard a noise from behind.

Her face froze for a moment.

Depend on!

Could it be a snake?

She really couldn't believe that she was so unlucky.

She turned her head carefully and saw a small hole in her sight.

There were a lot of weeds near the entrance of the cave. Su Mianmian stared at the entrance nervously, fearing that something terrible would suddenly jump out.

She waited for a long time but didn't see any sign of the snake, and began to wonder if she was hallucinating.

She patted her chest and breathed a sigh of relief.

However, she did not dare to sit on the stone any longer. She stood up and stared at the hole again with concern.

This time, she was sure she wasn't mistaken; the weeds were moving again.

She held her breath nervously, and suddenly, she saw a white-gray rabbit jump out of the hole.

The rabbit seemed to be running too fast, and it bumped into a rock with a "bang" and fainted.

Su Mianmian's eyes lit up and her heart was suddenly filled with joy.

She exclaimed excitedly, "Oh wow! This is really a case of searching for gold everywhere, but it is found without any effort."

She carefully picked up the unconscious rabbit, placed it in a small backpack, and covered it with some grass from the hole.

In the end, Su Mianmian decided to return along her own footsteps.

Although she knew very well that she might meet the frog that she had stepped on half to death again, she didn't know any other roads, so she had to go ahead with it.

She followed the footprints carefully, moving forward step by step.

Her heart beat faster and faster, as she worried about encountering frogs and taking the wrong path.

Soon she came to the spot where the frog had been, and looking around cautiously, she found that the frog was gone.

She immediately breathed a sigh of relief and let go of the worry in her heart.
