Chapter 2

Chapter 2

"Green".

"This servant is here."

Lingwu stared at her, and as Qinglu grew increasingly flustered, she slowly picked up a velvet flower and put it in Qinglu's hair.

“When a young woman has someone she loves, she should naturally dress up nicely.”

Qinglu was stunned for a moment, then her face turned pale. She forced herself to remain calm and asked, "Why does Miss think that I have someone I like?"

“We grew up together since childhood, and your thoughts are always written on your face.”

"Yes, really?" Qinglu raised her hand to cover her face, her eyes flashing with panic.

"Look at you, have you forgotten the bond between us?" Ling Wu reached out and poked Qing Lü's forehead with her finger.

Qinglu shook her head, but her eyes inexplicably turned red, and tears almost rolled down her cheeks.

She turned her head away, forcing back a sob.

Yes, how could she forget the young lady who had always treated her like a sister for a childhood friend who had changed his mind?

"Miss, we shouldn't go out tonight. Tonight is crowded..."

Lingwu smiled faintly, "My elder sister wrote to me a few days ago saying that I haven't been out much, and told me to go out more, otherwise I'll get sick from being cooped up."

"That's true, but..."

Yes, Miss has hardly left the house in recent years, so...

Lingwu noticed Qinglu's worried expression and smiled sweetly, "What's wrong with you today?"

Qinglu was nervous, but still tentatively spoke up: "This servant...this servant is worried that Miss may encounter someone with ulterior motives."

"Why are you thinking about all sorts of nonsense today?" Ling Wu got up and walked outside, her eyes filled with tenderness, unchanged.

Did you regret it so quickly?

Throughout the journey, Qinglu appeared absent-minded, and only when they were almost at the dining hall did she cautiously and hesitantly speak:

"Does Miss know the eldest son of the Jiang family?"

Ling Wu paused and turned to look at her.

Qinglu lowered her eyes and said, "I heard that because he is the only son of the direct line of the family, he is extremely spoiled and often frequents brothels."

Ling Wu paused, then smiled and said, "That is indeed strange."

It was indeed strange, after all, Jiang Qi was known to the outside world as a person of integrity and purity, and this was the first time she had heard such slanderous remarks.

Qinglu breathed a sigh of relief.

“I have a friend who works at the Jiang family. Miss, you don’t know, that young master is very good at pretending. He puts on a pure and noble appearance, but in reality he is a licentious and dissolute man. Miss, don’t be deceived by his handsome face!”

Fortunately, the young lady doesn't usually go out, so she put some eye drops beforehand, so the young lady wouldn't have a good impression of that so-called Young Master Jiaoyue.

Upon closer reflection, her childhood sweetheart didn't seem to be a good person either.

The handsome young master Jiaoyue, who is admired by many young ladies in Shengjing, is surely up to no good in trying to get close to them!

His childhood sweetheart is also the servant of this treacherous person, so he must be no good either!

As Lingwu walked, her skirt fluttered like flowers.

Gentle breeze and bright moon? Or utterly debauched?

Lingwu's gaze inadvertently fell on the pond beside her. The water was clear, but the mud beneath was waist-deep.

"Then it's best to avoid contact with him in the future." Ling Wu's eyes were filled with tenderness.

Qinglu nodded emphatically.

Jiang Qi, who had been "blackened" by Qing Lü, was now being pulled by Su Meier's clothes.

"Cousin, there's a bug in Mei'er's room, and Mei'er is scared." Su Mei'er said with seductive eyes.

Jiang Qi frowned slightly. "Where is your maid?"

Su Meier bit her lip lightly, "She wasn't feeling well, so Meier let her go back to her room to rest. Meier's position in the mansion is also awkward, so now I can only ask my cousin for help."

I thought Jiang Qi would find her pitiful and kind because of these words.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Qi remained aloof and arrogant, but fortunately, she still followed her into the inner room.

Su Meier concealed the darkness in her eyes and closed the door as Jiang Qi stepped into the room.

The incense in the room was intoxicating. Su Meier had half-undressed, and her delicate face was quite alluring in the incense.

"Cousin," she called out in a soft, sweet voice.

Jiang Qi crushed the insects on the ground, his face indifferent, his eyes darkening. "It's time to pay my respects to my grandmother."

Su Meier paused, then lowered her pretty face slightly, revealing a section of her fair nape.

"Then Mei'er went with her cousin."

She wasn't in a hurry. As long as she used her perfume and spent some time intimately with him, Jiang Qi would naturally treat her differently.

Lingwu greeted Bai's parents and then began her meal.

As she ate the food, Lingwu's beautiful, watery eyes curved into crescents.

The food was indeed delicious, so Lingwu ate much more than Bai Lingwu had in the past.

This made Mr. and Mrs. Bai look at each other with joy.

"Wu'er, you should eat more from now on, just like you did today. Your body is too thin; a gust of wind could blow you away!" Mother Bai teased gently.

Lingwu covered her lips and laughed, then obediently agreed.

Overjoyed, Bai's mother piled food into her bowl, one bite after another, until it became a small mountain.

Mr. Bai frowned as he looked on. "A daughter should eat less..."

Before he could finish speaking, Bai's mother put her chopsticks on the table and looked directly at Bai's father with her gentle eyes!

"Could you say it again, my husband?"

Bai's father silently swallowed the rest of his sentence, but when he saw the "mountain" in front of Ling Wu, he finally couldn't help but mutter a wronged remark:

"Madam, Xiaowu will get indigestion if she does this."

Bai's mother choked, only then realizing that her actions just now had indeed gone too far.

"Well, what your father said makes some sense. If Wu'er can't eat anymore, just leave it. Don't force yourself to eat."

When she spoke to Ling Wu, her beautiful face was full of tenderness.

This made Bai's father extremely envious. He thought, "How wonderful it would be if my wife could be so gentle and considerate towards me someday?"

As if sensing her husband's thoughts, Bai's mother, for the first time ever, placed a piece of pork rib in his bowl, saying, "Husband, please try this."

The usually refined and elegant Mr. Bai was flattered and hurriedly stuffed the ribs into his mouth.

"Thank you, Madam!" He was overjoyed, and the corners of his mouth couldn't help but curve into a smile.

Lingwu couldn't help but chuckle, and the two elders then remembered that their daughter was still in front of them, their faces flushing slightly.

Father Bai coughed lightly, “Xiao Wu, please bring a few more servants with you tonight. There will be many people admiring the lanterns, so please be careful in everything you do.”

Lingwu nodded in agreement, "Father, don't worry, I understand."

Bai's father only had Bai's mother in his entire life. The two were a harmonious and loving couple, and never had a fight.

He had only two daughters. His eldest daughter, Bai Qingchu, entered the palace as a concubine and won the emperor's favor.

My daughter, Bai Lingwu, is not yet of marriageable age, but suitors have already worn down her doorstep, though she has not yet been engaged.

And the reason...

"Don't worry, Wu'er. Even if you don't marry, your father can still support you if you can't find someone you love!" Mother Bai gently advised.

Father Bai nodded in agreement, "I've wronged your older sister in this life, I must never push you into the fire again!"

The term "imperial consort" sounds nice, but in the end, she is still just a concubine.

If it weren't for the imperial decree that he couldn't disobey, he would be willing to raise these two women for the rest of his life.

He has so much wealth that he could never spend it all in a hundred generations, and his daughter is so gentle. If he could find a son-in-law to marry into the family, he could finally have some peace of mind.

Ling Wu pursed her lips, her smile radiant, "Daughter understands."

As night falls, the earth is illuminated by lanterns, making it seem as if it is already dawn.

Seeing that this scene was exactly the same as Bai Lingwu's memory, Lingwu lifted the carriage curtain.

This time, however, Qinglu helped Lingwu walk in the opposite direction.
