Chapter 13 Imperative
"Wait a moment."
Before Zhou Cheng could finish reporting his findings, the top decision-maker raised his arm and interrupted him.
As Zhou Cheng stared at him with a hint of doubt, the top decision-maker rang a bell on the conference table. The next moment, a secretary-like figure walked in.
"Contact all decision-makers and all senior officials in Beijing. Immediately drop your tasks and gather in Conference Room 1."
The secretary looked a little surprised.
This is a big move and it looks very urgent.
This situation is rare.
What news did this young man in front of me, with disheveled hair and a face like a savage who had just come down from the mountains, bring?
Despite his doubts, he didn't hesitate at all. The secretary immediately agreed and turned around to pull out his phone.
"This matter is too important. Let's go to Conference Room 1."
"yes."
They moved to a conference room that was not very large but was filled with an indescribable solemnity and sat down.
Zhou Cheng knew that this was the core of humanity, one step further than the World Government Building.
It is in this conference room that decision makers have made countless decisions that have far-reaching impacts on the entire civilization.
Next, this will be my home ground.
At this moment, outside the World Government Building, one smart car after another roared in, rushing directly into the compound. The car doors opened, and one by one, high-ranking officials got out and hurried into the building.
The staff on the first floor looked at this scene in amazement.
Although no one knew the details, everyone realized one thing.
Something big must have happened.
I just don't know if it's a good thing...
An atmosphere of tension and solemnity mixed with a hint of anticipation began to spread throughout the World Government Building.
One after another, the decision-makers of human civilization or senior officials of the world government whom Zhou Cheng had seen many times on television, computers and other media entered Conference Room No. 1 and sat down in their respective seats.
Within half an hour, more than twenty people arrived.
The top decision maker slowly stood up.
“I’ve called everyone here urgently because I have an important announcement.
This young man's name is Zhou Cheng, and he has some important clues about the catastrophe that our civilization is facing.
Now, Zhou Cheng, please tell us your discovery again."
"yes."
Zhou Cheng put his backpack on the conference table again and took out the bones, stone slabs, artifacts, etc.
"It all started seven years ago. At that time, I happened to notice an archaeological article..."
Zhou Cheng slowly recounted his story, describing everything he had done after entering the mountains, his discoveries during the process, his thoughts and guesses, and the subsequent verification process.
Finally, Zhou Cheng said: "Although it is not 100% certain, the existing evidence has already proved with a high probability that the Yangjiagou tribe has very likely encountered the same catastrophe as our human civilization is now.
We are not alone.”
Looking at Zhou Cheng, who was disheveled, ragged, and even emitting a strong stench, the decision makers couldn't help but be moved.
For a seemingly absurd guess, despite everyone's dissuasion, he resolutely carried out seven years of preparation.
After completing the preparations, he went deep into the mountains alone, taking huge risks and narrowly escaping death several times. If he had been a little less lucky, he would have been buried forever in the mountains and forests, and no one would even collect his bones.
Each person used a shovel and spent several months relying entirely on their own strength to dig out the clues buried underground.
No supplies, no company, far away from any human settlement, how did he survive such days?
Over the past sixty years, countless elite members of human civilization have dedicated their entire lives to the study of disasters, but have never gained anything.
I don’t know how many people left this world unwillingly.
Until now, the human world still knows nothing about this catastrophe.
Apart from knowing that some unknown force prevents any form of sperm and egg from combining, resulting in the human world being unable to create new life in any form, nothing is known.
But now, the human world finally has some clues.
Silence fell in Conference Room 1. After a long pause, a decision-maker gently raised his hands and clapped.
At first, there was only one person applauding. But the next moment, the applause became one.
The small conference room was instantly filled with warm applause.
After a long time, the applause gradually stopped.
The top decision-maker said solemnly, "There is no doubt that this is the first time in the sixty years since the catastrophe that our human civilization has obtained clues about the catastrophe.
Existing evidence shows that there are likely more clues buried at the Yangjiagou site.
Further excavation of the Yangjiagou site is imperative.
Zhou Cheng, you know the most about the Yangjiagou site. How much manpower and material resources do you think further excavation would require?"
Zhou Cheng didn't give a direct answer, but instead asked, "Sir, how much engineering power can our human civilization produce nowadays?"
Faced with Zhou Cheng's question, all the decision makers remained silent.
After a long while, the top decision maker stood up and said, "I'll take you to see something."
He stood up slowly, with great effort, as if a mountain was pressing down on him.
Zhou Cheng stood up and followed him.
The top decision-maker walked forward in silence, followed by Zhou Cheng, and behind him were the other decision-makers and senior government officials.
The group finally arrived at a hall.
Zhou Cheng saw rows of computers in the hall, at least 500 in number. An operator sat in front of each computer, staring intently at the screen, occasionally operating it.
There was also a huge screen at the front of the hall, with a world map on it. On the map were green and red dots of varying sizes.
Zhou Cheng and his group were now standing behind the railing on the second floor, with a clear view of the entire hall.
The top decision-maker stared silently at the giant world map before him for a long moment before saying, "This is a distribution map of the 26,000 'cradles' currently in existence around the world. Our current population of approximately one billion is distributed among these 26,000 'cradles'."
This hall is the main control room and monitoring room for these 26,000 cradles.
Here, we monitor the operation of each cradle's core systems.
Every power plant, chemical plant, plantation building, power grid, water supply system... and so on and so forth that is vital to our civilization.
Whenever there's a malfunction with the cradle, it turns red. Whenever the malfunction is resolved, it returns to green."
