The so-called "secret manual for choosing a concubine" is actually just a notebook recording Su Qingcai's daily life. The notebook details Su Qingcai's various preferences and his usual actions. The author even thoughtfully added annotations, teaching readers how to capture a man's heart.
The book became an instant sensation in the capital. Almost every young woman in the city owned a copy, and Su Xiaoning was making so much money that her hands were sore from counting it.
"One hundred taels, two hundred taels, three hundred taels... I'm rich!"
Su Xiaoning's current pleasure is counting money. She sat in her room and counted the money again, overjoyed.
She was incredibly clever. Ever since she found a business opportunity last time, she immediately contacted the bookstall and wrote a book on selecting concubines, using Su Qingcai as the target of her strategy. Even though she split the profits 50/50 with the bookstall, she still made a fortune.
Su Xiaoning was in a great mood. She put the silver notes back where they were and hummed a little tune as she prepared to go to the kitchen to cook herself a meal to treat herself.
Su Qingcai happened to see Su Xiaoning on his way to meet the matchmaker. Seeing her happy appearance, he felt a lump in his throat.
Why is he so overwhelmed with dealing with all this, while Su Xiaoning seems completely unconcerned?!
Su Qingcai was furious. He stood there staring at Su Xiaoning's hopping figure as she skipped away. A servant beside him cautiously reminded him, "Your Highness, if you don't go soon, Matchmaker Wang might be getting impatient."
"It's just a short wait, why do I have to wait on her hand and foot?" Su Qingcai snapped irritably. "And what's wrong with these people lately? How come they all know what I like?!"
"This..." The servant hesitated, unsure whether he should mention the recent events to Su Qingcai.
"Your Highness, you don't know, a book has recently been published in the capital called something like 'The Secret Manual for Selecting Concubines.' I heard it contains a lot about you, and the author even teaches them how to woo you..."
"..."
Unexpectedly, such a thing happened, and Su Qingcai was speechless.
He clenched his fist, stood there stunned for a long while, then pointed to the door and said, "Go buy me a copy right now!"
The servant nodded hastily, then rushed to a bookstall on the street to buy a book on selecting concubines, which he then handed to Su Qingcai upon his return.
Su Qingcai stopped going to see the matchmaker. He frowned as he flipped through the notes in his hand, his expression growing more and more unpleasant with each page he read.
When he saw the signature at the end, which read Su Xiaoning, he tore the notebook in half and threw it to the ground.
"They actually wrote this kind of thing for me? This is outrageous!"
Su Qingcai stormed off to find Su Xiaoning, who was happily counting her share of the profits she had just received. Su Qingcai suddenly burst in, catching her red-handed before she could even put the banknotes away.
"Is the Prince's mansion not enough to support you? Why do you have to write that kind of stuff?" Su Qingcai sneered. He glanced at the stack of silver notes and forcibly suppressed the urge to tear them all to shreds.
Su Xiaoning knew that her plan had been exposed, but she was still annoyed that Su Qingcai had not refused the matchmaker, so she straightened her neck and looked unconvinced.
"Why should I care what I do when I make money? The money in the Prince's mansion is your money; I just want to make my own money!"
"You used me to write a book, and you have the nerve to say you're making your own money?" Su Qingcai was both angry and annoyed, her eyes filled with dark clouds. "You live with me and only treat me as an object of observation? Su Xiaoning, how can there be such a heartless person as you, treating me like a money-making tool!"
"Me, heartless?!" Su Xiaoning jumped up. "If you hadn't publicly announced the selection of concubines, why would so many people want to buy your information? If they wanted to buy it, I would have sold it. Anyway, you seem to be enjoying it!"
"Do you think I wanted to do these things?!" Su Qingcai was furious and grabbed Su Xiaoning's wrist, gradually tightening his grip.
Su Xiaoning felt a sharp pain and realized she couldn't shake him off, so she simply bit him hard!
Su Qingcai gasped in pain and quickly released Su Xiaoning. When he rolled up his sleeve, he found that his arm was bleeding from the bite.
"Just talk, why are you hitting me!" Su Xiaoning forced back the taste of blood in her mouth, stuffed the silver notes into her bosom, and ran out.
"Whether you're willing or not isn't determined by what you say, it's determined by what I see with my own eyes! If you don't like it, then just reject those people directly. Otherwise, either I'll sell this information or someone else will! It's so annoying, I don't want to stay here anymore, I'm going shopping! Anyway—this is all money I earned myself!"
Su Xiaoning ran away in a flash. Su Qingcai was so angry that he trembled all over, but he was worried that Su Xiaoning would get into trouble again if she ran away alone. So he endured the pain in his arm and called Ding Yi and Bing Er.
"Stay secretly by Su Xiaoning's side, and make sure nothing happens to her again!"
Ding Yi and Bing Er agreed and immediately went out of the mansion to find Su Xiaoning, who had just walked a short distance away, and secretly followed behind her.
But Su Xiaoning's senses were very sharp. She was too familiar with Ding Yi and Bing Er's aura. When she realized that the two were secretly following her, she deliberately led them around aimlessly, moving very fast, as if they were in a maze.
Ding Yi and Bing Er fell for the trap; they lost track of Su Xiaoning and could only stand bewildered in the middle of the road, staring at each other.
Su Xiaoning saw their predicament from afar, smiled smugly, and walked in the opposite direction. She hadn't walked far when she was suddenly stopped by several burly men.
"Miss Su, the Seventh Prince requests your presence."
The burly men surrounded Su Xiaoning. Although they spoke politely, their words carried a hidden sense of danger.
The Seventh Prince? Su Qinghe?
