Chapter Eighty: Declaring Her Identity

Su Xiaoning took a step back guiltily, not daring to look at Su Qingcai's gloomy face.

Su Qingcai's eyes were filled with anger. He grabbed Su Xiaoning's wrist and squeezed it so hard it hurt.

"You've really grown up, haven't you? You even dared to lay a hand on me under the covers?"

He missed Su Xiaoning terribly; the days they'd been apart had made him lose his appetite, as if he were truly ill. He only wanted to sneak a peek at Su Xiaoning while he couldn't sleep, but who knew this woman would scold him without even asking what happened!

He's really lost face. Now his face is bruised and swollen, and he's nowhere near his former handsome and unparalleled appearance.

"You insisted on sneaking in like that. How was I supposed to know if it was a thief? Am I wrong to protect myself?" Su Xiaoning turned her head away angrily. Although she felt a little guilty, she really didn't think she had done anything wrong.

"You!" Su Qingcai's face grew even uglier. He wanted to say something harsh to teach Su Xiaoning a lesson, but his throat felt blocked, and he couldn't say a word.

Finally, he could only release Su Xiaoning's wrist and said dejectedly in a low voice, "I just wanted to come see you. You have never been willing to face me directly, so I thought you wouldn't know if I came over at night... Never mind, I am ultimately sorry for what happened."

"You've wronged me in more ways than just this one thing," Su Xiaoning sneered. "Have you ever considered why I don't want to see you?"

Su Qingcai knew this, of course, but he was too ashamed to take the initiative to approach Su Xiaoning and make amends.

But in the current situation, saving face isn't that important anymore.

Su Qingcai sighed and said in a deep voice, "I know what you're thinking. I'm sorry... The old lady in the manor didn't give you a good look earlier. I should have stood by your side. It's all my fault for being confused for a moment. I promise you, it will never happen again."

He thought for a moment, then said somewhat awkwardly, "You've already beaten me up, you should be over it by now, right?"

"puff."

Su Xiaoning laughed out loud, which was quite unkind. She had never intended to keep arguing with Su Qingcai, and now that she had accidentally beaten him up, she really shouldn't be so pretentious anymore.

Su Xiaoning nodded, tacitly acknowledging that she had vented her anger and forgiven Su Qingcai for his previous actions.

The two exchanged a smile, finally resolving their past grievances.

...

After reconciling with Su Qingcai, Su Xiaoning continued her life as before, treating patients in the mansion every day. Her medical skills were superb, curing many people, and gradually fewer patients came, leaving Su Xiaoning with plenty of free time again.

Life in the manor was so boring that Su Xiaoning chose a day to go shopping alone. With the money Su Qingcai had given her, she could buy whatever she wanted and was very happy.

Su Xiaoning strolled along most of the street and spotted a clothing store not far away. It looked quite grand, so she went in to take a look.

She was still looking at the dazzling array of clothes in the store when she suddenly heard a commotion outside, followed by a sharp female voice.

"Buy all these clothes for me! Especially that one, the one I had my eye on last time, but the shopkeeper still won't sell it to me?"

The shopkeeper wore a fawning smile, and his cautious tone suggested that the other party was someone he couldn't afford to offend.

"Madam, as we mentioned last time, this dress was custom-made by Miss Gao and cannot be sold..."

"If you can't sell it, what are you doing displaying it in the shop? Miss Gao's father is just a minor official; how can he compare to me? Don't be so rude!"

"This..." The shopkeeper looked troubled. "Madam, business isn't easy for us either..."

"I don't care if your business is doing well or not! If you want to keep this store in Beijing, you'd better think twice about your own status!"

The newcomer was extremely arrogant, and seemed to have brought some thugs with him. He directly commanded the thugs to steal the custom-made garment. The shopkeeper was furious but dared not speak out, and could only stand aside sighing.

Su Xiaoning was extremely righteous and could not stand such a scene. She walked over angrily, ready to teach the person a lesson, but she was stunned when she saw the person's face.

How could it be Qin Yunyun?!

The woman before her possessed an indescribable charm in her features. Although she had changed considerably, Su Xiaoning recognized her as Qin Yunyun at a glance. Qin Yunyun's hair was styled in a high bun, clearly a married woman's hairstyle. Furthermore, the shopkeeper addressed her as "Madam," suggesting that she might have married someone—and someone of considerable importance at that?

Su Xiaoning harbored doubts and, being cautious, did not step forward. She turned around and left the shop, heading straight to the Prince's Mansion to tell Su Qingcai about the matter.

Su Qingcai usually worked in his study, so Su Xiaoning simply pushed open the study door. Unexpectedly, Su Qingcai had been planning an operation lately, and today was a meeting with his subordinates. Su Xiaoning barged in impetuously, only to bump into a group of people.

Everyone stared in astonishment at the woman who had barged in without any manners, their eyes filled with disgust. Some even stepped forward and directly reprimanded Su Xiaoning.

"Where did you come from, woman? Don't you know any manners? Do you think you can just walk into our Prince's study like that? Don't you know how to be respectful to the Prince? Get out of here right now!"

This scene is just like the moment when I first entered the Prince's mansion.

Su Xiaoning stood there dumbfounded. She looked at Su Qingcai, who was sitting in the high seat, somewhat at a loss. Seeing that he had no reaction at all, she was very disappointed and turned to leave.

Unexpectedly, Su Qingcai rushed over in one stride and pulled Su Xiaoning into his arms.

The subordinate gasped, utterly shocked that Su Qingcai would do such a thing. "Your Highness, how could you..."
