Chapter Six: The Scoundrel

What is this thing?!

Su Xiaoning was instantly wide awake. She subconsciously leaned down and looked down to see the horrified look on Su Qingcai's face beneath her.

Before Su Xiaoning could even ask what was going on, Su Qingcai shouted urgently, "You've been poisoned!"

"Who are you cursing?" Su Xiaoning's face darkened, and she raised her sleeve speechlessly. Three silver needles on the sleeve gleamed, but she was unharmed.

“You…” Su Qingcai’s expression hardened. Just as he was about to say something, he heard several “whoosh” sounds of air being cut. It turned out that the assassin was still determined to attack him!

Without saying a word, Su Qingcai carried Su Xiaoning and hurriedly stepped back. Although she didn't understand what was going on, Su Xiaoning knew that she was in trouble. She tried to get off Su Qingcai's back, but Su Qingcai held her tightly and wouldn't let go.

"Put me down!" Su Xiaoning struggled desperately, but Su Qingcai held on tightly. The two swayed, and the newly arrived silver needles just happened to prick Su Xiaoning's sleeve again.

As the night deepened, the assassin in the distance grew increasingly anxious, revealing more of his body and simultaneously throwing out even more silver needles with a flick of his wrist.

For some unknown reason, Su Xiaoning struggled wildly and managed to block all the silver needles with her clothes. Su Qingcai was astonished and also noticed the group of people attacking from a distance. His expression hardened, and he casually picked up a few pebbles from the ground and threw them at them.

"Damn it, we've been discovered!" The assassin retreated hastily, realizing he had been exposed. Without hesitation, he turned and ran. "This is no place to stay, let's go!"

"Don't run!" Su Qingcai originally wanted to take advantage of the situation to chase after them, but the Qin family members rushed in front of him in a disheveled state.

"Stop chasing us! Stop chasing us! We give up!" Qin Sang collapsed to the ground, panting heavily. Qin Yunyun and her brother huddled beside him, not daring to utter a sound.

Su Xiaoning then climbed down from Su Qingcai's back, who had relaxed. She stared in disbelief at the burning house not far away, her legs gave way, and she almost fell to the ground.

She just took a nap, how come she woke up and her room was gone?

"You really can sleep a lot. You were completely unaware of what happened." Su Qingcai said with a hint of sarcasm, but he helped Su Xiaoning, whose legs were weak, to her feet.

Aunt Xu and Uncle Qingshan rushed over and asked Su Xiaoning about her condition with concern. The other villagers angrily questioned the Qin family. Qin Sang kept begging for mercy, and Qin Yunyun also cried out.

Hearing the chaotic sounds, Su Xiaoning finally understood the situation and immediately flew into a rage, glaring angrily at the Qin family members who were lying paralyzed on the ground.

"Fine, so you've lost your own mark, and now that you know I have the exact same mark, you're thinking of burning me alive? Your Qin family has been causing trouble in Carp Village before, preventing everyone from going out to fish when they were starving, and now you're openly setting fires? In my opinion, it's better to repay kindness with kindness. You've killed enough people already, now it's time to pay the price!"

"I...I didn't! It was clearly because you ate the fish and offended the Fish God that the house caught fire..." Qin Yunyun didn't want to show weakness in front of the little beggar she had always looked down on. She retorted in a trembling voice, but she lacked confidence and her voice became lower and lower.

Su Xiaoning's words stirred up the long-standing resentment that the villagers of Carp Village had against the Qin family. They surrounded the Qin family members, their eyes filled with a chilling hatred.

"Yes, several people in our village starved to death back then in order to support Lord Fish God, but that was just a lie fabricated by your Qin family for personal gain! You bunch of heartless bastards, reporting you to the authorities would be too lenient!"

"They got off too easy! In my opinion, just like the little girl said, it's an eye for an eye. They wanted to burn the little girl alive, so we'll burn them alive!"

"Burn them! Burn them!"

The villagers shouted and cursed, and someone handed them some ropes. They tied up the Qin family members and carried them out.

"No! Don't burn us!" Qin Yunyun struggled desperately, rolling on the ground several times, unwilling to let the villagers touch her body. She was no longer the flamboyant and high-profile woman she once was; she was covered in dust and looked utterly disheveled.

But the angry villagers showed no mercy to Qin Yunyun. They quickly tied her up and carried her out with Qin Sang.

As the noise gradually faded away, Su Xiaoning looked helplessly at the house not far away, which had been burned to ruins, her face filled with despair.

Seeing Su Xiaoning's pitiful appearance, Su Qingcai felt a strange pang of heartache. He sighed and said softly, "It's just a room, it's alright. If you're worried about not having a place to stay, I can..."

Before she could finish speaking, Su Qingcai caught a glimpse of a cold light on Su Xiaoning's chest and immediately changed his tone, "Don't move!"

"What's wrong with you now?" Su Xiaoning looked at Su Qingcai with a puzzled expression, but she didn't expect Su Qingcai to reach out and directly attack her chest!

She felt an unusual touch on her chest, and a strange feeling swept over Su Xiaoning's entire body. She shuddered, her pupils dilated instantly, and without thinking, she reached out and slapped Su Qingcai across the face!

"Smack!"

A crisp slap rang out, and Su Xiaoning covered her chest and jumped back, her eyes filled with contempt as she stared at Su Qingcai.

"You look like a gentleman, but you're actually a pervert!"

She had never even touched a man's hand in her modern life, but she never expected to be taken advantage of after traveling back to ancient times!

"Am I a pervert?" The burning pain on his face felt very real, and Su Qingcai's face darkened immediately. "Su Xiaoning, you really don't know what's good for you!"

After saying that, Su Qingcai turned and left angrily.

"He was clearly the one who acted like a hooligan, yet he's acting all wronged..." Su Xiaoning glanced at Su Qingcai's back with disdain, but suddenly felt a chill on her hand.

She looked down alertly and saw a silver needle gleaming coldly, pinned to her chest.

Su Xiaoning's heart jumped into her throat. She nervously removed the silver needle from her chest and then realized what had just happened.

Perhaps Su Qingcai was too concerned and offended her because he wanted to check if she was poisoned?

Realizing she had misunderstood Su Qingcai, Su Xiaoning looked annoyed. She chased after Su Qingcai in the direction he had left, only to find the door locked when she reached it.

Feeling guilty, Su Xiaoning quickly ran to Aunt Xu's kitchen.

When Su Xiaoning came out with a bowl of fragrant fish balls and was about to knock on Su Qingcai's door, she heard Qin Yunyun's cries coming from the beach not far away. Many villagers were carrying firewood and rushing to the beach.
