Chapter Sixty-Three: Conflict Between Two Gangs

"Grab him quickly!"

Bai Hua shouted and kicked open the door, whereupon he saw a furtive figure lurking outside.

Upon realizing he had been discovered, the eavesdropper knew he was in trouble and turned to run away. However, in his panic, he ran right into the place where Su Qingcai and the Cao Gang members were staying and was caught red-handed.

The deputy gang leader sensed the seriousness of the situation. He grabbed the eavesdropper, held a knife to his neck, and roared, "Speak! Who are you? And what is your purpose in eavesdropping on this conversation!"

"I'll talk, I'll talk! Please spare me..." The eavesdropper trembled, having lost all sense of integrity in the face of a life-threatening situation, and blurted out everything he knew.

"I...I'm a member of the Whale Gang. I haven't done anything heinous; I've just been eavesdropping. Recently, the Whale Gang has sent many members to infiltrate the Canal Gang. They now know that the Canal Gang leader isn't seriously ill but has disappeared. They've sent word that they want to take this opportunity to seize the Canal Gang's assets..."

"What?! The Whale Gang dares to seize our property?!"

The deputy gang leader roared, and his men increased the force of their blows, carving a bloody gash into the spy's neck with the sharp blade.

The spy was terrified and pleaded, "I've told you everything I know, please spare me! By the way, judging from the date they discussed, they might make their move in the next day or two..."

"They actually plotted this while the boss was away! Do they think I, the deputy leader, am dead?!" The deputy leader was so angry that his face turned ashen. He threw the spy to his men, ordered them to lock him up, and then hurriedly went out to hold an emergency meeting. He had no time to care about what Bai Hua and Su Xiaoning were talking about.

The members of the canal gang retreated like a tide, leaving only Su Xiaoning, Su Qingcai, and Bai Hua standing there looking at each other.

Su Xiaoning sighed softly. She knew that things were about to change in Tongcheng.

...

The next day.

As the spy had predicted, the Whale Gang indeed approached the Canal Gang.

"Our two gangs agreed that the territory of Tongcheng would be divided once a year. Now that the day is almost here, shouldn't we renegotiate how the territory should be divided?"

The leader of the Whale Gang got straight to the point, stating his purpose without any hesitation.

The deputy leader of the Canal Gang frowned, not wanting to cause trouble while the leader was missing, but still managed to remain polite. "I remember the agreed date was a month from now, wasn't it? Our Canal Gang and the Whale Gang have always been on good terms. Isn't it a bit much for you to be in such a hurry?"

"Bah! Who said we're on good terms with your Canal Gang!" The Whale Gang leader showed no respect whatsoever, his eagerness and greed undisguised. "What difference does a month from now make? I said we should discuss it now, so we must do it now! Besides, who do you think you are? Why don't you call your gang leader out? Call your gang leader out, I want to talk to him face to face!"

Since the Whale Gang leader was so aggressive, the Canal Gang deputy leader simply tore off his mask as well.

"You bastard, how dare you say that! Don't think I don't know you planted a spy in our gang. We've caught the spy, and the reason you're in such a hurry to find our gang leader is because you know he's missing. What's with all this high-sounding nonsense!"

"Oh, the gang leader isn't here, and you, the vice-gang leader, are getting all high and mighty?" The Whale Gang leader sneered. "So what if I planted a spy? Your gang leader's disappearance is none of my business. I'm just here to discuss territory. If your gang leader can't come today, then the entire Tongcheng will be under the management of our Whale Gang!"

"Don't even think about it!"

"Is it up to you whether you want to or not?"

The leader of the Whale Gang and the deputy leader of the Canal Gang completely broke off relations, got into a heated argument, and even started fighting.

Once they made their move, how could their underlings stand idly by? The two groups then clashed, resulting in a chaotic battle.

The chaotic battle lasted for several days, affecting many parts of Tongcheng. Su Qingcai became increasingly restless and, along with Su Xiaoning, prepared to leave this place of trouble.

“Their bloody fight is none of our business. We have important matters to attend to and cannot linger here too long, lest something unforeseen happens. Now come with me.”

For Su Qingcai, nothing else mattered except Su Xiaoning. The current chaotic situation could threaten Su Xiaoning, so he couldn't stay any longer.

Su Xiaoning knew Su Qingcai's worries. Although she felt it was wrong to leave this mess behind, she obediently listened to Su Qingcai and ran out of the city with him.

As the two passed by the dock, they suddenly heard a commotion. Su Xiaoning looked in the direction of the sound and saw a bloody scene.

People dressed in the uniforms of the Canal Gang and the Whale Gang clashed at the dock. The two sides fought fiercely, with no regard for the consequences. Countless people were left with bloodied heads and lost their lives. Some innocent passersby were also caught up in the fight and suffered injuries of varying degrees.

Upon seeing that some civilians were injured, Su Xiaoning couldn't bear it any longer, and she gave Su Qingcai a pleading look.

Su Qingcai understood Su Xiaoning's thoughts, sighed softly, and led Wang Fan and the others behind him into the battle.

With the help of Su Qingcai and his group, the Whale Gang was quickly at a disadvantage. Several of them suffered losses and ran away, leaving behind a mess.

"You should go back first. In the future, try to avoid causing trouble outside, so as not to affect innocent people." Su Xiaoning didn't want to be too harsh on the Cao Gang members who suffered heavy casualties, so she just scolded them in a low voice.

The members of the Cao Gang looked at the chaotic scene with some guilt, and following Su Xiaoning's advice, went back to report the matter to the deputy leader.

Su Xiaoning sighed and, together with Su Qingcai, helped the injured people up. Bai Hua, seeing how pitiful they were, gave them some medicine.

The people were extremely grateful and kowtowed several times to Su Xiaoning and her group before leaving. The dock, which had been in chaos just moments before, was now eerily quiet. If it weren't for the shocking sight of blood on the ground, no one would have been able to imagine the terrible tragedy that had just occurred there.

Su Xiaoning felt a deep sorrow and could not bear it.

"I...I don't want to leave. If this matter in Tongcheng isn't resolved, these two gangs will probably keep fighting endlessly, and in the end, it will only be the people of the city who suffer. Let's stay and help find the leader of the Canal Gang, or find another way, okay?"

She was kind by nature and simply couldn't ignore the terrible situation before her.

Su Qingcai originally wanted to persuade Su Xiaoning, but after seeing the faint pleading in Su Xiaoning's eyes, he kept quiet.

The group remained silent and turned back.
