Chapter Twelve: Women Who Are Willing to Get Close

Su Xiaoning was sleeping peacefully on the table. Unlike her usual boisterous self, she was exceptionally well-behaved when asleep. The half of her face exposed was flushed with a cherry-pink hue, making her incredibly adorable. Her gently fluttering eyelashes were like butterfly wings, and her cherry-red lips, as red as the color of a crabapple in spring, were still unconsciously moving.

Although not stunningly beautiful, she evokes a unique and captivating feeling.

Su Qingcai's heart skipped a beat. He unconsciously moved closer to Su Xiaoning and heard her murmured words.

"The owner said that Aunt Xu's crucian carp and bass are a bit pricey, so I have to negotiate a good price for Aunt Xu and Uncle Qingshan... Uncle Wang's sardines are good, they'll make a good profit this time... and..."

Every word and phrase reflects the concern for the villagers of Liyu Village.

Unexpectedly, Su Xiaoning was even thinking about calculating the cost and price of these fish while she was asleep. Su Qingcai felt both amused and exasperated, and a strange feeling welled up in his heart.

He placed the tea he had intended to give Su Xiaoning to refresh herself on the table, and casually took a blanket from the shelf beside him and draped it over her. Just as he was about to leave, he hesitated and stopped.

The night was deep and the dew was heavy. The blanket was too thin. If Su Xiaoning were to sleep here all night, she would probably catch a cold the next day.

Su Qingcai stood there for a while, seemingly making an important decision in his heart. He turned around and walked towards Su Xiaoning, carefully picking her up.

Upon touching the woman's soft body, Su Qingcai's fingertips trembled slightly, and a suspicious blush appeared on his face.

He held Su Xiaoning in his arms as if he were running away from something, and rushed towards Su Xiaoning's bedroom.

It seemed that Su Qingcai's embrace was too bumpy, as Su Xiaoning struggled a few times uncomfortably, her muttering continuing. She snuggled closer to Su Qingcai, and only quieted down contentedly after finding a more comfortable position.

Su Qingcai's heart was pounding, a thin layer of sweat appeared on his forehead, and his whole body was stiff.

After finally getting Su Xiaoning to her bed, Su Qingcai's back was soaked with sweat.

Before his rebirth, he was blinded by a woman and almost became her male concubine. After a difficult journey back to the capital, he lived a life worse than death, with no woman daring to approach him, and he didn't want to have any contact with any woman again. Now, having met Su Xiaoning, he finds that he is not at all averse to contact with her, and even feels a strange sensation after such intimate contact.

What exactly does this feeling represent? Su Qingcai dared not think about it.

He tucked the blanket around Su Xiaoning, then tiptoed out of the bedroom. As he closed the door, he glanced at the sleeping Su Xiaoning, his expression complex.

...

the next day.

Su Xiaoning woke up from her deep sleep and looked around at her surroundings in confusion, but she had no memory of returning to her bedroom last night.

Did someone else bring her back to her room last night?

Su Xiaoning got out of bed with a puzzled look on her face. After washing up, she stepped out of the room and saw Su Qingcai talking to the villagers. He was holding the account book that Su Xiaoning had made the night before.

Su Qingcai seemed to have already looked through the account book in his hand, and he spoke to the villagers in great detail. The villagers who came to visit left the fish they brought and left with profuse thanks.

"How would I know I wrote all this, and even read it all?" Su Xiaoning walked forward curiously. She blinked, then suddenly remembered something. "Last night...did you come to see me? And did you take me back to my room?"

Upon hearing Su Xiaoning mention what happened last night, Su Qingcai was startled as if his tail had been stepped on. He waved his hands repeatedly and said somewhat guiltily, "Nothing happened. You were probably too tired last night and forgot to go back to your room. As for this ledger, I only saw it this morning."

Su Qingcai coughed a few times and hurriedly walked outside, saying, "There are still some villagers waiting outside, let's go quickly."

He seemed to be trying to hide something, which aroused suspicion. But even if he didn't say anything, Su Xiaoning wouldn't really ask.

Su Xiaoning tapped her head in confusion, but eventually caught up with Su Qingcai.

...

Ever since Su Xiaoning spread the news that the restaurant owner was buying up fish from Carp Village, almost every household in Carp Village came to Su Xiaoning for help. They brought all the fish they had caught during this period, and Su Xiaoning calculated the costs and prices. Then, Su Qingcai and the villagers together delivered the selected fish to the restaurant owner.

Su Xiaoning has been so busy lately that she hasn't even had time to eat. She's been doing accounting late into the night and yawning constantly during the day. She's been working very hard.

Su Qingcai couldn't stand it anymore. When Su Xiaoning finally managed to eat a meal but almost fell asleep from exhaustion, he frowned and said, "You've been working too hard lately. Even if you're being kind, haven't you gone too far? Your health is the most important thing."

“Didn’t I tell you before? Everyone in Carp Village has been incredibly kind to me. What’s the big deal about helping them with some accounts now? Don’t worry too much about me.” Su Xiaoning grinned, her eyes still glued to the ledger on the table. “By the way, remember to deliver some fish to Aunt Zhang’s house after you finish eating. She’s an only child, so it’s quite inconvenient for her.”

"Hmph." Seeing that Su Xiaoning wouldn't listen to advice, Su Qingcai felt a little uncomfortable and snorted coldly. However, he couldn't refuse Su Xiaoning in the end, and after finishing his meal, he obediently went to deliver the fish as Su Xiaoning had instructed.

As soon as Su Qingcai stepped into the restaurant in Qinghe Town, Ru Xing warmly greeted him.

"Young Master Su, you're here again! I've been waiting for you for so long!"

As Ruxing spoke, she moved closer to Su Qingcai, her eyes like pools of spring water, sending him flirtatious glances.

Su Qingcai glanced coldly at Ru Xing and moved a few steps to the side without making a sound.

This woman has ulterior motives; she's been using the occasion of him delivering fish to seduce him lately. Su Qingcai has never liked this kind of woman, so naturally he keeps his distance as much as possible.

Seeing that Su Qingcai had no interest in her at all, Ruxing was a little annoyed. She changed her mind and pretended to twist her ankle when the two were exchanging fish, and fell into Su Qingcai's arms.

Su Qingcai's body stiffened, and by the time she reacted and pushed Ru Xing away, Aunt Zhang, who had come with her, had already seen the scene.

Aunt Zhang gave him a strange look, which made Su Qingcai feel irritated. He glanced coldly at Ruxing, quickly finished the handover, and then left the restaurant without looking back, leaving Ruxing alone in the restaurant stomping her feet in anger.

Originally, she thought the matter would be over, but unexpectedly, after returning home, Aunt Zhang started whispering in Su Xiaoning's ear.
