Chapter 112 Why Cry?
The small, gold-bronze seal is engraved with a lifelike Xuanwu (Black Tortoise).
It gleamed brilliantly in the candlelight, and was not only extraordinary, but also priceless.
She had seen similar seals in her later life; they were things only royalty possessed. So how could her mother have one?
"Mother, what does this mean?"
She looked up in confusion at the face that now seemed somewhat unfamiliar.
Tao's mother stroked the top of the tortoise shell with her fingertips and smiled faintly: "Keep it for now, and I'll tell you about it later."
She stuffed the brocade box into her hands, and then pushed the longevity noodles in front of her.
"Quick, eat it while it's hot."
Seeing that she didn't speak, Tao Tao looked down at the clear soup noodles, which smelled delicious and had a half-cooked poached egg on top.
The vibrant green scallions paired with the snow-white noodles are especially appetizing.
Her brows were half-closed, and her curled eyelashes cast a faint shadow on her face, concealing the emotions in her eyes.
She hates undercooked fried eggs because they taste fishy to her.
"What's wrong, Tao'er?"
Tao's mother looked at her, puzzled, her brows furrowed and her expression somewhat uneasy.
"Is it because you don't like it anymore?"
"No, no, Mother, I'll eat now."
Tao Tao looked up and laughed, shook her head, and picked up her chopsticks to eat bite by bite.
Watching her eat heartily, Tao's mother was filled with satisfaction.
After she took the empty bowl out, Tao Tao stood up, clutching her stomach, feeling nauseous and vomiting. She quickly went out and vomited it all up.
She was afraid that her mother would find out, so she deliberately went outside to vomit.
After repeating this several times, there was nothing left in my stomach.
She wiped her mouth, slowly stood up, and her legs were still a little numb from squatting for so long, so she needed to rest for a while.
Under the moonlight, she saw her own shadow and couldn't help but look up at the bright moon.
The likes and dislikes that Tao's mother remembers are not her own. What if one day she discovers that she is not actually her daughter from childhood?
She has tried to avoid showing her affection in everyday life, but there are always times when it happens unintentionally.
How will she explain that then, and where did that seal come from... Could it be that her mother's identity is unusual?
For a time, many questions were troubling her, waiting for her to deal with them. At this moment, she felt somewhat helpless and powerless.
Tao Tao slid down the wall with her back against it, buried her head in her knees, and slowly curled up into a ball.
"You'd rather hide here alone away from those people than accept the house I offered?"
A familiar voice suddenly rang out above her head, and she abruptly looked up.
Her amber almond-shaped eyes shimmered with a gentle light under the silvery glow, her eyelids slightly red, revealing a hint of surprise.
As if realizing something, she quickly turned her head away, only to have the man in front of her reach out and pinch her pointed chin with his fingertips.
He leaned down and brought his face close to hers, his hot breath suddenly drawing near, and asked in a low, husky voice, "Crying? So pitiful?"
She lowered her eyes, suppressing her unease, and stubbornly said, "I didn't, you're mistaken."
Duan Gan knelt down on one knee and wiped away the tears from the corner of her eye with his fingertips. The burning sensation made him curiously look at it under his eyelids.
He couldn't help but wonder what her tears tasted like.
Just as he was about to do it, Tao Tao suddenly stood up.
He looked at the water stains on his fingertips, then put them down, repeatedly kneading them with his fingertips by his side, feeling the coolness that had already cooled.
"What happened? Why are you hiding here all by yourself? Don't you like those people?"
She avoided answering his question: "Why are you here?"
"I'm asking you a question, didn't you hear me?"
The moment she heard that title, she knew he was putting on his arrogant and powerful act again.
For some reason, she felt annoyed and didn't want to pretend to be in a good mood anymore. In any case, she had no intention of dealing with him at this moment.
"What's it to you? Who gives you the right to tell me what to do!"
As soon as she finished speaking, she turned around and was about to go inside when he grabbed her wrist and slammed her against the wall.
"Tao Tao, you dare say that again."
His tone was icy, unlike her angry demeanor, yet it instilled a chilling fear in the listener, making them hesitant to speak.
Who's outside?
Tao Tao's body trembled, and she looked up at him in a panic, shaking her head.
The footsteps inside grew closer and closer. She tried to escape, but he grabbed her wrist and she couldn't break free.
The man looked at her leisurely, his eyes half-smiling, finding her disheveled and flustered appearance quite amusing.
Finally, having no other choice, she reached out and hugged his waist, looking up at him with pleading eyes.
"Master, please go quickly, I beg you..."
Xi Xin walked over, pushed open the door, and peeked out.
The moment the wooden door opened, the man embraced the girl's slender waist, spun around, and landed on the roof above.
"Strange? There's no one here, but I just heard someone talking..."
Looking at the empty space on both sides, she scratched her head in confusion, then closed the door and went inside.
A cold wind was blowing on the roof. Tao Tao couldn't help but look down and immediately showed a look of horror. Cold sweat broke out on her back, and she tightly hugged his waist with both hands.
She always thought she didn't have a fear of heights, but now she's still afraid of falling.
"Why don't I kill them, then you'll talk?"
She had just come to her senses when she heard those words, which instantly made her look up at him angrily.
But she saw that he was looking at her with a cold face and a very serious expression, without the slightest hint of joking.
"I'm fine, really. I was crying because my hand hurt so much."
Not knowing what to say, she simply brought up the injury on her wrist.
Hearing this, his gaze shifted from her face to her raised wrist, and he couldn't help but recall that thrilling rainy night.
It felt as if a part of his heart had collapsed, which softened his gaze considerably.
He realized she wasn't telling him the truth and silently mocked her.
"Has someone taken your house? You don't even dare to cry in your room."
"And why didn't you take the key that was given to you?"
Afraid of being overheard by those below, she leaned close to his ear and whispered, "Shall we go down first?"
Duan Gan looked at her nervous and frightened appearance, a playful smile appeared in his eyes, and he suddenly let go. Sure enough, she immediately hugged his waist again, pressed tightly against his chest, and dared not move.
Tao Tao's pupils constricted, and she bit her lip, desperately suppressing the urge to scream.
Her heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of her throat; her whole body felt numb and cold, and her mind went completely blank.
If he hadn't supported her waist and let her lean against him, she probably wouldn't have been able to stand and would have fallen.
But he went too far; he was extremely wicked.
She looked up at him angrily, while he smiled, looking like he was deliberately teasing her, his wickedness emanating from his very bones.
She sneered, grabbed the soft flesh of his waist with two fingers and twisted it with all her might.
