Chapter 8, wasn't it what you wanted to steal?
Tao Tao looked in the direction of the voice, raised an eyebrow, and saw it was the housekeeper who had kicked her out that day.
"You bunch of thugs, you uncultured fools! What do you think this place is? A marketplace?!"
"You have no manners at all! This is the Chen residence, the residence of the Vice Minister of Works. Are you looking for death by acting so wildly here?!"
"And you three, just standing here watching the show? Little Five, didn't I tell you to go find the funeral director?! Where is he?"
Butler Lin launched into a tirade of abuse at them.
These people didn't dare to refute anything and could only smile obsequiously.
Upon hearing this, Xiao Wu quickly brought Liang Yongsheng out and said ingratiatingly, "Butler Lin, here he is! I've found him. I was just about to go over when someone stopped me."
The other two servants didn't dare say anything, because they couldn't be accused of secretly taking money to pass the message on to outsiders.
This steward is not easy to get along with; at best, his monthly salary will be deducted, and at worst, he will be kicked out of the mansion.
Either outcome is what they want.
Wang Dazhong and Zeng Rong disagreed. They had already paid for the job, and if they weren't allowed to take it, their money would be wasted.
So they tried their best to sell themselves to Butler Lin, especially Wang Dazhong, who was still injured on his face, and kept talking desperately, hoping to find a job. Tao Tao couldn't help but sigh when she saw this.
This reminded her of the elderly people who gather around job advertisements these days; if it weren't for making a living, who would be willing to lower themselves and beg them?
So it's not that some people don't want self-respect; among the lower classes, money and self-respect cannot coexist.
"Alright, alright, shut up. You guys are making so much noise you're going deaf."
Butler Lin spoke impatiently, a hint of disgust flashing in his eyes, and he unconsciously took a step back, as if they were some kind of bad luck.
"How about this? All three of you come and take a look. Whoever can do it, I'll do it for them."
The three nodded in agreement without giving a second thought to the meaning behind his words.
Tao Tao, an observer with a clearer perspective, heard his words very clearly, frowned, and wondered what he meant.
What do you mean by "who can do it"? They all have experience in funerals. There's basically no one they can do it, unless... it's some kind of infectious disease.
Just as they were about to go inside, Tao Tao quickly stepped forward.
"housekeeper!"
Butler Lin turned around in confusion and saw that it was a woman.
What brings you here?
She smiled and said, "My family also runs a funeral business. I'll go in and take a look too."
Liang Yongsheng immediately stopped her: "We can't let her in! Women are unlucky!"
One sentence immediately dispelled Steward Lin's idea.
Indeed, it is very unlucky for a woman to do this. Moreover, women are considered yin, and they have menstruation every month, which is already unclean. Adding a corpse to this would likely attract some bad things.
Upon hearing this, Tao Tao's expression instantly turned cold. She stared at him with cold eyes and pursed her lips.
A surge of anger welled up inside me, threatening to erupt.
The look sent a chill down Liang Yongsheng's spine, and he turned his head away uncomfortably.
Butler Lin waved his hand impatiently, "Let's go, there are already enough people here."
Hearing that Butler Lin also agreed with the saying that women are unlucky, Wang Dazhong stared at her with schadenfreude: "You're just a young lady, you should find a good husband and get married as soon as possible. This line of work is not suitable for you."
As soon as he finished speaking, the group went inside.
Marry your grandpa!
Tao Tao sneered; she'd see if they could actually do it.
So he went back to lean against the stone lion statue.
As a result, Wang Dazhong was the first to come out before half an incense stick had burned out. He looked flustered, his head was covered in sweat, and his eyes revealed fear.
Then Zeng Rong appeared to be in a hurry, as if he was rushing to be reincarnated. He walked too fast and stumbled, almost tripping on the steps.
There was no trace of the eagerness they had shown just moments before.
Tao Tao stepped forward and blocked their way, chuckling lightly with a hint of mockery in her eyes: "Oh dear, isn't this the big man who was wagging his tail just now?"
"What's wrong? Neither of your two businesses can do it? Are you scared? If you're in this line of work and you're as cowardly as a mouse, what kind of business are you doing? You might as well go home and live off your wife."
Looking at Tao Tao's smiling face, Wang Dazhong wished he could tear that smile off.
"You knew what was going on inside all along?! That's why you watched us fight over it, just to watch the show, right?!"
"Let me tell you, the jobs we can't take, you can't possibly do!"
This makes it seem like she stole his wife, and he was forced to wear a green hat, filled with resentment and anger.
"Then let's wait and see."
At this moment, the last Liang Yongsheng ran out, his clothes still somewhat disheveled, followed by the servant and steward from before.
"Hey! Come back here right now! What will happen to our master if you leave?!"
Butler Lin chased after him desperately, his obese body making him look somewhat comical as he ran.
"What can you do with a dead man! I want money, but I also want my life! You can find someone else yourselves!"
Liang Yongsheng rushed out in a panic, even more frantically than the two people from before. He looked as if he had been chased by a ghost. He lost his footing and tumbled out of the way.
Before he could even feel the pain, he scrambled to his feet and limped away.
Only the cursing Lin steward remained behind.
"That son of a bitch, what kind of coward runs a funeral parlor!"
"Get out! Go back to your mothers! You bunch of sons of bitches!"
After cursing, he turned around and cursed the servant.
"Useless! You're utterly useless! What kind of people did you hire?! None of them have the guts of a finger!"
"The Chen family has been supporting you for nothing! You've been doing all this work for nothing."
He kept cursing and swearing, and Tao Tao was tired of hearing it.
She rubbed her ears and slowly stepped forward. "Butler, are you currently short-staffed?"
Butler Lin looked up and immediately beamed with joy, his smile almost reaching his ears. He then hurried over with great enthusiasm.
"Young lady! I've been waiting for you for so long! We're short of people, we're really short of people. For a young lady like you to be able to do this kind of work, you must have some really good skills."
"I won't say anything else, I absolutely trust you. The price is negotiable, come inside with me quickly."
Seeing his anxious expression, as if he was afraid she would run away, Tao Tao's lips twitched slightly, and she was speechless.
This face changes so fast, it's almost like a Peking Opera face-changing act.
The steward and servant walked around her, one in front and one behind, and they came to a courtyard after navigating the winding corridors.
A large number of people had gathered outside the courtyard and at the gate, including family members and children.
Tao Tao looked at these beautiful women and thought to herself that this master really knew how to enjoy life.
Although everyone was crying, she noticed that some people didn't shed a single tear.
It was all bark and no bite.
