Chapter 104 Don't be angry
"Can I come along too?"
A cautious request came from the side.
Tao Tao turned her head to look, and saw that it was Ding Yunxiang who had just spoken.
"It's a bit far over there, so you can stay at home or go with my mother to the shop to familiarize yourself with it first."
Hearing this, she looked somewhat disappointed.
Just as Tao's mother was about to speak up for her, she saw her suddenly stand up, looking astonished.
"What's wrong, Tao'er?"
Tao Tao didn't answer, but instead became absorbed in her own world.
When she woke up earlier, she was wondering if she had forgotten something. Now she finally remembered that Duan Gan had asked her to go to the Privy Council this morning.
She had completely forgotten about it.
It's over, it's really over.
"I have something urgent to attend to right now. I'll go out for a bit and then go back to the shop later."
The person had barely finished speaking when they turned and left.
"Tao'er?!"
Tao's mother stood up and looked at her departing figure with a puzzled expression.
Ding Yunxiang's face was not very good, a shadow of gloom flashed in her eyes, and she gripped the chopsticks tightly.
Tao Tao walked quickly, but after going a short distance, she remembered something, went back to the kitchen to get a food box, ran to the wonton stall and asked for a bowl of wontons, which she specially put in her own bowl.
Only then did he rush to the Privy Council.
They entered the Privy Council without hindrance, and bumped into Chen Jinghe on the way.
Chen Jinghe looked like he was in a hurry, and when he looked up and saw her, it was as if he had seen a savior.
"I was just about to come find you! Tell me, what's wrong with you? Didn't Fourth Master say you needed to come over this morning? Why didn't you come?"
This morning, he still didn't know why the Fourth Master was so angry and ordered someone in the private prison to be killed every fifteen minutes. This feeling of death approaching caused constant wailing and trembling in the prison.
The people in the prison originally included those who had offended the Privy Council, remnants of treason, and spies from enemy countries.
They were kept around to extract more useful information, and some were simply unhappy with the Privy Council and openly impeached it in court.
Duan Gan found a pretext to imprison them in a private jail and make them suffer.
These people are used to being pampered and have never experienced such treatment before. At first, they were very stubborn and argumentative.
Within a few days, he was so frightened by a little torture that he lost his mind and became confused.
They had planned to let them out when Duan Gan was in a good mood, but they never expected him to go on a killing spree today.
Seeing that it was about to be their turn, they were so frightened that they cried and ran away in terror.
Later, Zhang Cheng told him about what happened yesterday, and he realized that it was all because of Tao Tao again.
Chen Jinghe had just come out of his study and was immediately thinking of going to the shop in the south of the city to find Tao Tao, but unexpectedly she came to him herself.
"I'm sorry, I really forgot. I was too busy yesterday. I'll go in right away."
Tao Tao looked annoyed and ran into the yard after saying that.
He watched her retreating figure, shook his head, and thought to himself that while the Fourth Master was lazy and aloof, he wasn't exactly good-tempered, but he wasn't as bloodthirsty as outsiders perceived him to be.
Right now, I'm actually being swayed by a young woman's emotions; I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing.
Tao Tao stood at the door, looking somewhat uneasy. She gripped the handle of the food box tightly with both hands, and looking at the closed door, she wanted to leave again.
Who's outside?
Suddenly, his voice came from inside.
She shuddered, pursed her lips, and said softly, "Lord Duan, I am Tao Tao."
There was silence inside for a long while.
She couldn't help but gently push open the door and walk in, her steps slow, as if afraid of disturbing the person inside.
The room was dimly lit, with no windows open or candles lit.
She looked up and saw the man lounging in his armchair, holding a book in one hand and his legs propped up on the desk with an air of nonchalance.
The shadow fell on his face, and his expressionless face looked strangely sinister and terrifying.
When Tao Tao came in, he didn't even look up.
An attitude of complete disregard.
She walked over, placed the things on the table, raised her face with a docile and ingratiating smile, and called out in a sweet voice, "Lord Duan, is lunch ready?"
Duan Gan covered his face with the book, closed his eyes to rest, and coldly uttered three words: "Get out."
She pursed her lips, stood beside him with her hands on her hips, thought for a moment, then squatted down and rested her chin on the armrest of the armchair.
Looking down at the arm resting on the armrest, I saw a large, slender hand with prominent veins, and neatly trimmed, pink, and rounded nails.
Aside from the faint calluses on the tiger's mouth, it's clear that this hand couldn't possibly belong to someone who lives a life of luxury.
She gently poked the back of his hand with her fingertip and tentatively asked, "Duan Gan? Are you angry?"
"I didn't mean to, really. I was just too busy yesterday and overslept."
Hearing her apology, the man remained unmoved, but for some reason, he didn't withdraw his hand.
"Since I was late, I decided to make some wontons to apologize to you."
"This is my first time making it, why don't you try it, okay?"
Tao Tao tugged at his little finger with her fingertip, staring intently at him, observing his reaction.
Suddenly, his fingers twitched slightly. She felt she had a chance and reached out to slowly remove the book from his face.
The man's pure black eyes lowered, his gaze extremely dark, cold and indifferent as he looked down with a contemptuous air that showed he didn't care about anyone.
But strangely, there was a girl in his eyes.
He saw through the girl's seemingly cautious demeanor, which was actually masking her unbridled boldness.
"Tao Tao, you are really bold to disregard my words."
"Do you think you've got me completely under your thumb? That a few sweet words will make me willingly submit to your every whim?"
His words were full of sarcasm and mockery, and even carried a hint of hostility.
She was stunned for a moment, her hands clenching unconsciously until a sharp pain shot through her left hand, bringing her back to her senses.
She looked aggrieved and said in a soft voice, "I didn't, how could I dare... Duan Gan, you've misunderstood me."
"Alright, since you don't want to see me, I'll head back now."
Tao Tao stood up and turned to walk towards the door.
But she hadn't taken two steps when her right hand was grabbed, and she immediately stopped in her tracks.
Duan Gan stood behind her, his large hand gripping her wrist. His expression was not good, and there was a hint of annoyance in his eyes.
She turned and looked down at her wrist, which was being held, a barely perceptible smile curving her lips. Then she looked up and asked, feigning ignorance:
"What does Lord Duan mean by this? Don't you want to avoid seeing me?"
He stared intently at her, his lips pressed tightly together, his chin clenched, and he remained silent.
The two locked eyes.
She knew that, given his status and position, he would never say anything that would lower his stance.
"Don't be angry, it's all my fault. Try the lunch I brought you."
In her opinion, it's just a few words; she'll need his help in the future, so why be stingy with a few kind words?
