Chapter 36 Turning against someone faster than flipping through a book

Tao's mother accompanied Aunt Liu home first, while Tao Tao went home to prepare supplies for the mourning hall.

This order not only needs to be done well, but you also can't accept payment.

Early the next morning.

Tao Tao took the Yu brothers, Yu Shan and Yu He, to Liu Niangzi's house to prepare everything, but after knocking on the door, no one answered for a long time.

She felt something was strange, wondering if Aunt Liu had gone to make tofu, but then she thought it was unlikely.

The daughter-in-law just died, and her body was only pulled from the lake yesterday. The mother and son cried their eyes out, and Aunt Liu even fainted for a while. And today she can sell tofu?

But no one was home at Liu Niangzi's house, and she couldn't force her way in, so she came to the south street of the city with a suspicious attitude.

And it really was true.

Looking at Aunt Liu, who was smiling and greeting the guests, she really doubted that the person from yesterday was her.

Tao Tao asked Yu Shan and the other man to park the cart loaded with paper offerings on the street not far away and wait for her, while she went to find Aunt Liu.

She watched as Aunt Liu's tofu-making process was in full swing, and she saw that she was busy and flustered, so she helped her with the work.

"Here you go, sir, how many pieces do you want?"

She spoke to the old man selling tofu in front of her.

The old man paused for a moment when he saw her, as if he recognized her, and suddenly waved his hand and said, "Never mind, never mind, I don't want to."

After saying that, he left without looking back, as if he were fleeing in panic.

"Hey! Don't go!"

Aunt Liu reached out and shouted loudly. She turned around angrily and saw that it was the young lady from the Tao family who ran the funeral shop.

Her face immediately turned cold, and she said irritably, "Alright, alright, no need for you to come. I can manage on my own."

She had previously thought that Aunt Liu didn't seem to like their family very much, but since they rarely interacted, she usually only spent more time with Madam Liu. Now it seems that her impression was not wrong.

"Isn't this the young lady who runs a funeral parlor? With hands that have touched dead people, why are you serving us tofu? It's so unlucky!"

"I'm not buying anymore!"

"Exactly, I feel unlucky just having you standing there."

Aunt Liu quickly tried to calm her down, "This isn't our family's property, don't be angry, don't be angry, I'll kick her out right now!"

Alright, before she could even kick them out, Tao Tao quickly left on her own. Even after she was far away, she could still hear her chattering behind her.

Back in the modern era, she was used to being chased around. When she saw the unfriendly looks in their eyes, she knew what they were going to say, so she wisely ran away on her own.

But she still waited for Aunt Liu to close her stall, because she had promised her mother that she would definitely take care of this matter properly.

Liu Niangzi was one of her mother's few close friends. Now that her friend has died and her funeral arrangements have been handled carelessly, she must be very sad.

Yu Shan hadn't paid much attention to the commotion ahead, but Yu He suddenly tugged at his sleeve and pointed in front of the tofu shop, asking in confusion, "Brother, are they cursing the boss?"

"What?"

He looked up and happened to see Tao Tao walking over, looking calm, while behind her he could hear people cursing and swearing.

He frowned and was about to rush over to argue when Tao Tao grabbed his arm and pulled him back.

"There's no point in arguing with those people. When you're in business, you should try to make friends rather than make enemies. If something doesn't happen to you, you'll naturally feel it's unlucky. Not everyone can live to be a hundred; there will always be a day when you need something."

She spoke indifferently, not taking it to heart at all.

Just before noon, Aunt Liu finally packed up her stall.

Seeing this, Tao Tao took a step forward, and Yu He beside her quickly said, "Boss, I'll go with you."

He could tell from the old hag that she wasn't easy to get along with, and he was willing to help her if she tried anything against Tao Tao.

She had no objection to this small matter.

The two arrived at the stall, where Aunt Liu was packing up her things to go inside.

She looked up and saw it was her again. She said gruffly, "What do you want? I run a business here. Your funeral arrangements are affecting the luck of my place!"

"You're going to be unlucky, do you know that? I think it's because my daughter-in-law was too close to you that she had such bad luck and fell into the water and died."

"You'd better leave now! Or I'll report you to the authorities!"

Upon hearing this, Yu Shan was immediately enraged and shouted angrily, "What bad luck?! What does your family's death have to do with us?! Our boss came here to help you out of kindness! I think you're blind, biting the hand that feeds you!"

"What are you saying, you little bastard?! Who are you calling blind?! I think you're asking for a beating from me!"

Aunt Liu flew into a rage and raised her carrying pole to strike.

In a moment of panic, Tao Tao raised her hand to block and then pushed her. Caught off guard, Aunt Liu staggered back a few steps, her eyes filled with shock and disbelief as she looked at her.

"You! You little whore, how dare you lay a hand on me?!"

"Alright, stop yelling!"

"You don't want to bring your daughter-in-law's body back, is that it?!"

Just as she was about to rush over, she was immediately stunned by Tao Tao's shout. She saw that the young woman in front of her was expressionless, with cold eyes mixed with a hint of ferocity.

The young woman, barely out of her teens, had never seen anyone so rude and fierce towards an elder. She was just like her daughter-in-law, a complete shrew.

But the next sentence made her look a little flustered.

"What nonsense are you spouting!"

Liu Danian turned around, closed the door of the tofu shop, and prepared to leave.

"Aunt Liu, your face changes faster than turning the pages of a book."

Tao Tao sneered.

“You didn’t look like this yesterday. Don’t worry, the funeral for Madam Liu is free. I’ve been entrusted by my mother to ensure that Madam Liu is buried peacefully.”

"Since you and your daughter-in-law have such a good relationship, are you really not going to set up a mourning hall at home and hold a funeral for Madam Liu?"

Aunt Liu was suddenly rendered speechless by what she said, and could only glare at her fiercely.

Thinking of the government officials who were still conducting a thorough investigation, she realized that her reaction was somewhat inappropriate.

A forced smile appeared on her chrysanthemum-like face: "If that's the case, then it's my fault, young lady. Please don't blame me. When I saw you, I was reminded of my daughter-in-law who fell into the water. That tragic scene made me lose my mind."

“Our family doesn’t have much money; we only run small businesses. Now that my daughter-in-law has passed away, life will be even more difficult from now on.”

She said with a sigh.

“Aunt Liu, let’s go. Let’s go to your home to make some arrangements first, and then go to the government office to invite Madam Liu to be placed in the coffin.”

Tao Tao had no intention of listening to her nonsense any longer; getting the deceased back was the most important thing right now.

She really wondered if the old woman was genuinely heartbroken or just pretending, but now it seemed more like she was faking it, since the old woman had seemed to be in unbearable pain just yesterday.

If there's really some hidden story, then this old lady's acting skills are truly comparable to a modern-day Oscar-winning actor.
