Chapter 295
"General!!!"
"Fourth Master!!"
Chen Jinghe lay on the ground, staring in horror at Duan Gan lying on top of him. His face was pale, his scalp tingled, and a piercing buzzing sound came from his ears.
The warm, scarlet blood sprayed onto his neck, sending a chill down his spine.
A long spear pierced through the boy's left chest. His brows furrowed, and his face showed pain. His clothes were soaked with blood.
His hands trembled, and he dared not move at all.
Just as he was lost in thought, a dense rain of arrows came hurtling towards them again.
"What are you still standing there for?!" Zhang Cheng shouted angrily.
He rushed over anxiously, but upon seeing Duan Gan's condition, he dared not move, fearing that he might worsen Duan Gan's injuries.
Just as the two hesitated, Duan Gan gritted his teeth, reached out and pulled it out himself, and with a "plop" sound, blood splattered onto Chen Jinghe's face.
"Hurry! Make them all come back!"
Hearing Duan Gan's restrained voice, Chen Jinghe instantly sobered up, got up, carried him on his back, and let Zhang Cheng cover for them.
"Fourth Master? Wake up! That damned Wang Ze! I must kill him!"
Bang bang bang!
Chen Jinghe got up and kicked the city gate loudly, trying to open it.
Zhang Cheng squatted down, observing Duan Gan who was leaning against the wall. His breathing was very weak, but he was conscious.
"Medicine! Is there any medicine?!"
He asked them with a look of anxiety on his face.
"Did any of you bring medicine?"
"No……"
"I don't have any either."
Just as they were searching for medicine, a bottle of medicine stained with blood was shoved into Zhang Cheng's arms.
Zhang Cheng quickly took it and looked up to see Duan Gan. He saw that Duan Gan's eyes were calm and he remained composed even though he was sweating profusely from the pain.
Looking into his dark, indifferent eyes, Zhang Cheng inexplicably calmed down.
"...Don't panic, stay calm, apply the medicine to me."
He carefully removed half of Duan Gan's clothes, revealing a bloody, pierced wound.
Fortunately, it wasn't right in the center, otherwise Duan Gan would probably be unconscious by now.
The man used all his strength, with a force and decisiveness that would surely kill someone. If Duan Gan hadn't stopped him in time, Chen Jinghe would definitely have been dead.
Chen Jinghe turned his head and saw the hideous wound. He clearly knew this as well, and became even angrier.
They and the others kept kicking the door.
Zhang Cheng quickly and steadily bandaged the wound. Only after he finished did he notice that his fingertips had been trembling slightly.
Chen Jinghe was still banging on the door with the others.
"Jinghe, stop for now, take a break."
No matter how many times you crash, it's a waste of time and also a bit noisy.
Chen Jinghe mustered all his strength and kicked hard, making a heavy thud.
"Fourth Master..."
He squatted down beside Duan Gan, his face full of worry and self-blame. "Fourth Master, I'm sorry, it's my fault. If I had been more vigilant, this wouldn't have happened."
Just as Duan Gan was about to speak, his throat was blocked by the gushing blood and foam. He suppressed the urge to vomit blood and shook his head.
When Chen Jinghe saw that he didn't scold him, he felt even more guilty and ashamed.
Duan Gan in the army was very strict. If anyone violated military regulations in any way, they would be punished according to military law. His subordinates had a lot of complaints about him.
However, due to his formidable strength, no one dared to utter a single word of dissatisfaction, and even in private, they kept quiet about it.
He kept his head down and didn't see Duan Gan roll his eyes. Then, as if he had no eyes to look at, he closed his eyes and began to lean against the wall to rest.
Wang Ze, inside the city, seemed stunned after learning that Duan Gan had been shot to death, then burst into triumphant laughter.
"Good, good, that brat is finally dead."
He paused, then asked with some concern, "Are you sure that kid is really dead? Where's the body? Have you seen it?"
The lieutenant gave a sinister smile and bowed, saying, "Rest assured, my lord, I personally witnessed that the silver spear pierce right through his heart. Unless he is a reincarnation of a Great Immortal, it is impossible for him to still be alive."
"That's good. Who did it? I, the general, will certainly reward him handsomely."
"He's just a nobody soldier. I've already rewarded him with a hundred taels of silver, that's enough."
He nodded. "Well done. What about the others? Are they all dead?"
"Not yet, but without Duan Gan, the rest of them will die sooner or later. You can rest assured, sir, this matter will be handled by your subordinate."
“Very good, the matter is resolved. I will certainly recommend you to His Majesty.”
The lieutenant was overjoyed, "Thank you for your appreciation, sir!"
Staying at the city gate was not a long-term solution, so Duan Gan and his men retreated to a place ten miles outside the city and set up camp.
Three days later, thanks to the excellent wound medicine, Duan Gan's injury healed quickly and did not affect his normal walking.
Duan Gan, Chen Jinghe, and Zhang Cheng hid behind a rock.
Chen Jinghe frowned. The person in front of him took off his armor, revealing a black outfit underneath. He reached out and drew a dagger, glanced at it, checked it, and then put it into the scabbard at his waist.
"Fourth Master, you've only been injured for a short time, why don't you let me go?"
Upon hearing this, the boy glanced at him and said, "Wait at the city gate in a bit."
"Yes." He lowered his head and nodded.
Zhang Cheng saw that Duan Gan's eyes were saying that Chen Jinghe was overestimating himself, and he immediately suppressed a laugh, his shoulders shaking uncontrollably.
Chen Jinghe gazed at his figure hidden in the night, sighed wistfully, and inadvertently turned his head to see that Zhang Cheng seemed to be acting strangely.
What are you doing?
Zhang Cheng lowered his hand from his mouth and shook his head. "I'm fine."
It was late at night, and there were no stars or moon in the sky.
An invisible black shadow, like a bird in flight, nimbly climbed the city wall. The guard on it was dozing off, his eyes half-open.
They had all heard the news of Duan Ganxi's death, and in just a few days, the guards had become so lax.
If Duan Gan had been present, he would have been caught and given fifty lashes for whatever reason.
Therefore, apart from a few people who genuinely admired Duan Gan's abilities, most people felt somewhat dissatisfied with this young general.
Wang Ze promised them an extra tael of silver per month on top of their regular military pay, without any explanation.
Those who had joined the army because of poverty were overjoyed and immediately turned against the enemy.
The boy watched as the guards landed almost silently, hiding behind a pillar. Seeing the lazy guards, he frowned and turned to run towards Wang Ze.
In the dimly lit room, the candlelight flickered on its own without any wind.
Wang Ze sat on the bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. He felt uneasy, as if something bad was about to happen.
Finally, he couldn't resist getting up and wanting to get out of bed for a glass of water.
Suddenly, his eyes widened in terror as he stared at the dark figure standing by the bed. He had barely uttered a sound when the person in front of him pressed a knife against his throat.
"Wang Ze, I am Duan Gan, here to take your dog's life."
Hearing the name, he became even more frightened, and he was about to beg for mercy when the boy gave him no chance. The next second, the dagger pierced his neck.
