Chapter 67 If you can't get the answer, then hit.
Tao Tao didn't sleep well; she had just killed someone and was having nightmares all night.
It felt like when I first encountered a dead person during my internship; I was filled with unease and fear, especially at night, afraid that something might suddenly appear.
I got used to it later, and it wasn't a big deal.
She had just gotten up when she heard a soft knock on the door.
"Young lady? Has the young lady gotten up?"
The voice was soft and respectful, so it must be a maid. However, she had come to the Privy Council several times and had not seen any maids there.
"I'm up, wait a minute."
She quickly got out of bed, went around the screen, and looked at the soft couch, but the person was no longer there.
Then she ran back, sat on the edge of the bed, and said in a feigned calm tone, "Come in."
The door creaked open, followed by the sound of footsteps slowly entering.
Tao Tao was putting on her shoes when suddenly someone stood in front of her. Before she could even look up, her maid squatted down and reached out to help her put on her shoes.
"Wait, wait..."
This action made her stutter when she spoke.
The maid looked up at her, puzzled: "What's wrong, young lady?"
"Your hand is injured, so let me do it for you." With that, she put on her other shoe herself.
Tao Tao could only give an awkward smile: "Thank you."
She didn't let the maid interfere anymore, and the maid could only wait aside because she couldn't persuade her otherwise.
After she finished, she walked straight towards the door.
"Young lady! Breakfast...it'll be time for breakfast soon..."
She turned around and smiled, "You can have that. I have something to do, so I'll be going now."
Last night she thought about it carefully and decided that she still had to go back to the government office. She figured that Gao Shaoguang was probably not the one who removed all the jailers from the prison.
She felt he wasn't that kind of person, and besides, he went to the Yang family last night, so there should be people from the Qiu family at the government office.
After all, the Qiu family has the Empress and the Crown Prince as their backers.
Before she even stepped out the door, someone was already waiting for her. The person in the lead was none other than Chen Jinghe, who was staring intently at her, clearly waiting for her.
Tao Tao frowned in confusion, but still smiled and asked, "Is there something you need?"
"Are you going to the government office? Fourth Master instructed me to go with you."
Chen Jinghe was followed by four or five guards.
She thought for a moment and replied, "Thank you, let's go then."
She hadn't expected him to actually intervene, sending people from the Privy Council with her. Wasn't that blatantly telling others that she really had a connection with the Privy Council?
But she had no reason to refuse help that came to her door.
Tao Tao walked ahead, and Chen Jinghe behind her couldn't help but show a puzzled expression, his questioning gaze fixed on her, making it hard for anyone not to notice.
He was wondering what use Tao Tao was, and why Fourth Master would help her.
Moreover, the Fourth Master didn't blame her for the snake soup incident last time. It's really strange. When did the Fourth Master's temper become so good?
She sensed it and pretended nothing had happened.
Soon, they arrived at the government office.
The people at the door saw her and, before she could even speak, drew their knives and rushed at her.
Chen Jinghe's eyes narrowed, his expression turning fierce. Without a word, the guards behind him stepped forward and started fighting with the constables.
How could the yamen runners, who only arrested criminals and had never actually fought, possibly be a match for the battle-hardened Privy Council guards?
He collapsed to the ground, howling in pain.
Seeing that something was wrong, someone turned around and hurriedly ran into the government office to report it.
A short while later, Gao Shaoguang rushed over. He was particularly surprised to see Tao Tao, exclaiming, "Tao Tao!"
"Will you come back?"
Tao Tao couldn't help but laugh: "Why don't I come back? It's not like I'm running away from my crime."
He stood at the doorway, and suddenly saw Chen Jinghe beside her. His expression turned solemn, and he quickly stepped forward and bowed, saying, "This humble official, Gao Shaoguang, greets Your Excellency the Consul."
Tao Tao glanced back and forth between the two of them with surprise.
Chen Jinghe ignored her, not even glancing at her, and just smiled and said, "Let's go, let me see how this government office makes wrong judgments and arrests."
Wrongful conviction and wrongful arrest? What does he mean by this?
Gao Shaoguang looked at their backs, his expression not good. Just as he took a step, he saw the girl in front of him turn around and smile slightly.
He responded with a faint smile.
In the courtroom, Chen Jinghe stood beside the table, not sitting in the chair.
A higher-ranking official can crush a person.
Moreover, his rank was two ranks higher than Gao Shaoguang's, and he didn't sit down, so how could Gao Shaoguang sit down?
Chen Jinghe said, "Come here quickly, why are you still standing there?"
The people below looked at each other, not knowing where he was.
Tao Tao looked at that seat, which was the seat of the person who would solve the case, so it wasn't addressed to her. She then looked at Gao Shaoguang beside her.
Gao Shaoguang also suspected that he was being called, but the familiarity in his speech made him hesitate.
Just as he took a step, he suddenly heard someone above call out again: "Miss Tao, Tao Tao!"
Chen Jinghe called out twice.
Tao Tao's pupils dilated in shock as she stared at him in astonishment. Coming to her senses, she waved her hands and shook her head.
Even setting aside the fact that she's an ordinary citizen, in their eyes she's still a suspect. Letting her sit there would just create chaos.
She's not here to bully others; she's here to solve problems.
Seeing her expression, he immediately looked disappointed and exasperated.
"Let's talk here, okay?"
She looked up at Chen Jinghe before asking her the final question.
“Alright, it’s the same down there. This matter is easy to resolve. I’ve already sent someone to bring the Yang family over. They should arrive in about half an incense stick’s time.”
"ah?!"
"ah?!"
Two surprised voices rang out simultaneously, from Tao Tao and Gao Shaoguang.
"Your Excellency, how can we arrest someone without evidence? That seems inappropriate."
“What’s wrong with that? Since we can’t find out who the murderer is, let’s just arrest them all and interrogate them. If we still can’t get anything out of them, then we’ll use some methods. If anyone is still stubborn, then let them see how the Privy Council does things.”
Chen Jinghe sneered, not taking those people seriously at all.
Gao Shaoguang frowned in disapproval, but didn't know what to say, thinking to himself that this was the prelude to torture him into confessing.
Tao Tao slapped her forehead helplessly, thinking that just like master, like subordinate.
This arrogant behavior is exactly the same as Duan Gan's.
Chen Jinghe sat down in the armchair on the lower left of the desk, waved to Tao Tao, and gestured for her to come over.
Tao Tao glanced around, thinking that with so many people around, she shouldn't embarrass him, and walked over.
After waiting a while, a commotion broke out at the door, accompanied by sobbing and wailing.
"Let me go! What are you doing?! My Yang family has done nothing wrong, why are you arresting us?"
Yang Zhengxian roared loudly, but his hands were grabbed from behind, the force so great that he couldn't even struggle.
"Was it done by the Sun family? What benefits did you receive from the Sun family?!"
