Chapter 298
Those around stared wide-eyed, their expressions instantly turning horrified.
"Prince Yong! Put down your sword!"
A shout startled everyone awake; they thought he was trying to escape from prison, or rather, disobeying the new emperor's orders.
But after Qi Heng killed the man, he threw the sword on the ground.
"Let's go."
He returned to his old ways, without explaining why he did it, nor did he need to.
The person who just came in didn't know, but the jailer who had just been chatting and laughing with this person did.
While feeling terrified, he couldn't help but admire Qi Heng's devotion; even though his wife had abandoned him and married someone else, he was still protecting her.
On his way back, he saw the end of the wedding procession and heard the sounds of gongs and drums; the whole street was filled with joy.
There were a lot of onlookers.
The person who brought him back even took him around in another direction to avoid it.
Upon returning to the Prince Yong's residence, he was guarded both inside and out by imperial guards to prevent him from escaping once inside.
On the way there, he realized that the regent must be Duan Gan, because only Duan Gan would dare to sit in that position.
Therefore, the person who married Xiao Tao was Duan Gan.
Shen Yu stood beside him, watching his absent-minded look. She wanted to comfort him several times, but because she was not good with words, she didn't know how to start.
Perhaps it was because his gaze had been fixed on Qi Heng for too long that he noticed.
"I'm fine. I want to be alone for a while. You can go now."
Shen Yu hesitated for a moment, then clasped his hands in a fist and said, "Yes, Your Highness."
Qi Heng sat on the stone bench and took out a lotus seed bracelet from her sleeve. It had been delivered to her a couple of days ago under the guise of bringing food.
It was sent to him by Tao Tao.
This shows that she has feelings for him.
She sent someone to tell him to live well, but the Qiu family was gone, his mother was dead, and he couldn't even protect his beloved. What use was there for him to live?
but……
He looked down at the object in his hand, at least there was still something to hold onto.
...
Privy Council.
In the dimly lit bridal chamber, the light from the red lanterns shone through the carved wooden door covered in paper, casting a soft red glow that added a touch of ambiguous romance to the festive atmosphere.
Rong'er was standing by the bed when she suddenly heard Tao Tao, who was sitting on the bed, speaking.
I want to eat something.
She had barely eaten all day and got up so early in the morning. She had some pastries hidden in her sleeves, but they accidentally fell out while she was walking.
Fortunately, it was a mess at the time, and no one noticed.
Upon hearing this, Rong'er looked outside the door, then quietly went to the table and took some tea, fruit, and snacks.
"Princess, please have some. I reckon the Prince won't be here anytime soon."
She put the fan aside and took the pastry from her hand to eat.
Before she had eaten more than a few pieces, she heard a slight noise outside the door. Startled, Rong'er quickly said, "Princess, stop eating! The Prince is here."
"Never mind him, I'll finish eating first."
Tao Tao ignored her, but Rong'er looked very scared.
She had heard of Duan Gan's deeds and felt a deep-seated fear of him. She could only whisper, "Princess... the Prince will be angry later..."
She ate a little too quickly and choked a bit. "Could you get me some water?"
As Rong'er walked to the table, she saw Duan Gan walking to the door. He was wearing a red wedding dress, tall and upright, with slightly dreamy eyes and crimson lips, so beautiful that he was almost bewitching.
His steps were slightly unsteady, and as he approached, a strong smell of alcohol wafted in on the wind.
No one knows exactly how much he drank, which is why even the wind he blew smelled of alcohol.
Rong'er held the teacup, bowed her head, and said in a trembling voice, "Your Highness, greetings."
The man shook his heavy head, took the tea from her hand, and said, "Get down."
Rong'er bowed and walked out with small, quick steps.
As the door closed, he downed his tea in one gulp, and Tao Tao watched in surprise as he stood up.
He smiled slightly and waved to her.
She noticed that something seemed off about him; his cheeks were flushed, as if he were drunk.
But even though he was drunk, he seemed quite sober and didn't stagger or act crazy.
She walked over, and just as her hand touched the teapot, the person in front of her grabbed her wrist, leaned down, and kissed her with burning lips.
She subconsciously opened her mouth slightly, and the water, which smelled of alcohol, was poured directly from his mouth into hers.
Tao Tao was forced to swallow. The spicy taste of the food that his tongue had slipped in was overwhelming. Not only that, but his breath was filled with the smell of alcohol mixed with his own body odor.
The kiss was over.
She nestled against his chest, breathing heavily, and asked, "How much did you drink..."
Duan Gan bent down and pulled her into his arms, burying his burning cheeks in her neck, and murmured, "It's not much, I'm not drunk yet."
"What drunkard would admit to being drunk..."
She reached out and touched his burning cheeks, thinking of getting him a damp handkerchief to apply to his face.
But he wouldn't let go of her. He pressed his forehead against hers, his eyes shimmering with tears as he gazed at her intently, murmuring, "You're so beautiful... Little Peach..."
Seeing his infatuated gaze, Tao Tao burst out laughing.
Unexpectedly, one day he actually complimented her on her looks.
"Call out to my husband, let me hear it..."
"My husband."
As soon as he finished speaking, Duan Gan's pupils dilated in shock. He lowered his head and pressed his lips to hers, while simultaneously pulling off the belt around her waist and removing her heavy outer garment.
His urgent actions made her retreat step by step until she reached the edge of the table, where she had nowhere left to go.
He caught a glimpse of her slightly uncomfortable expression out of the corner of his eye, and swept everything off the table, the loud, clattering sound echoing in the room.
It carries a sense of ambiguity, as if the desire is excessive.
The heavy phoenix crown on her head made her tilt her head back, revealing her fair and delicate neck. He had just kissed her when he saw her brows furrow and her breathing heavily, so he stopped.
He realized the problem was with the phoenix crown on her head, and reached out to remove the hairpins, ornaments, and other items securing the crown from her head.
He was very patient in handling her, even though she was wearing so many and complicated things, as if he was afraid of hurting her.
"My neck hurts so much from wearing so many things..."
She muttered a complaint under her breath.
Duan Gan's eyes suddenly cleared a bit, and he pulled her to sit down in front of the bronze mirror, carefully removing it.
She breathed a sigh of relief after the phoenix crown was removed, feeling much more relaxed.
He reached out and massaged her aching neck, staring at her face in the bronze mirror, and asked, "How are you? Does it still hurt?"
She looked up at him and said coquettishly, "It hurts, it hurts a lot."
"Did you sprain your ankle? Should I have the imperial physician come and take a look?"
"Who calls for the imperial physician on their wedding night? Aren't you afraid of being laughed at?"
He chuckled softly, leaned down, and kissed her lips, which were adorned with lipstick. "You care about what others think?"
"It's different, but it doesn't hurt as much for me anymore. Just massage it a bit more and it will be fine."
"good."
He was very patient, using just the right amount of force in his hands, kneading her until she asked him to stop.
