Chapter 95 Tomorrow I will come to the Privy Council
Before the carriage even got close, Xi Xin saw the person and immediately jumped off the carriage and ran forward.
When Tao Tao saw the person who came, she waved her hand and smiled, preparing to greet her, but then she saw Xi Xin with red eyes and tears in her eyes rushing into her arms.
"Boss, we've finally found you! Xixin was really worried about you."
She looked down at Xixin, whose voice was choked with sobs, and with a surprised expression, patted her back somewhat awkwardly.
"There was a heavy rain last night, but I was just trapped on the mountain and stayed there overnight. Nothing happened."
"Whoa—"
Zhang Cheng pulled on the reins, jumped off his horse, and bowed respectfully: "Fourth Master!"
Then, seeing that his head was wrapped in gauze, his cheeks were scratched, and his clothes were tattered, Zhang Cheng was immediately shocked and rushed forward.
"Fourth Master, you... what... what happened? How did you get so badly injured?"
Duan Gan did not answer. He walked to the horse, pulled on the reins, leaped onto it, and sat on the horse, looking down at Tao Tao.
"I will see you at the Privy Council at 3:45 AM tomorrow."
As soon as he finished speaking, he pulled on the reins, turned his horse around, and galloped off towards the direction of the capital city.
Seeing this, Zhang Cheng took the horse handed to him by a soldier and chased after them.
Yu Shan and Yu He looked completely bewildered. Thinking that someone as important as him could get injured, they quickly went to her side to check on her.
"Boss, are you hurt?"
"I'm sorry, we shouldn't have left first last night. It's all our fault. Boss, please punish me."
Yu Shan looked at Tao Tao with a face full of guilt.
Xi Xin straightened up and stared resentfully at the Yu brothers, Yu Shan and Yu He.
"With such a torrential downpour last night, how could you leave the boss alone on the mountain?! If it weren't for his incredible luck, you two wouldn't have been able to pay for it with your lives!"
The two people who were accused hung their heads in dejection and dared not refute in the slightest.
Yu He, in particular, was so remorseful that his eyes were red, and he twisted the hem of his clothes with both hands, at a loss for what to do.
"Okay, okay, I'll stop talking about it. I know you're all worried about me."
"We're all on the same side, so let bygones be bygones."
She reached out and took Yu Shan and Yu He's hands, placing them on her own left hand, and then put Xi Xin's hand on top, signaling that everyone should unite.
Upon hearing this, Xi Xin awkwardly lowered her head, her expression a mixture of shyness and gratitude. She then inadvertently noticed the wound on her wrist and exclaimed in surprise, "Boss, your hand!"
"How did it get so badly injured?! Young lady's hands are so delicate, and besides, our bodies are a gift from our parents. What if it leaves a scar?"
"Quick! Let's go see a doctor right now."
Xi Xin quickly pulled her into the carriage, and Yu Shan and the other man also looked nervous. Before she could speak, they drove the carriage into the city.
Seeing their expressions, Tao Tao opened her mouth, but ultimately smiled helplessly.
When she went to the Jishi Clinic for bandaging, Doctor He seemed quite used to seeing her, and even joked, "You haven't been to my little clinic for three or five days, young lady."
"My left eye has been twitching all day, so I knew you would come."
She gave an awkward, dry laugh, looking a little embarrassed.
"Father, what are you saying?"
He Songwu said something to him, his eyes showing some disapproval.
He turned and walked over to her, smiling, "Sit down, are you feeling unwell?"
He was the old man's son. He wasn't often at the clinic; he frequently went to villages to provide free medical consultations or to deep mountains and forests to collect medicinal herbs. This was the second time she had seen him, despite having visited so many times.
The two sat facing each other, and she placed her hand on the table. "I injured my wrist a little, and I applied medicine and bandaged it up simply."
He carefully unwrapped the gauze from her wrist and saw obvious animal teeth marks, which made him frown deeply.
"Were you bitten by a dog?"
"He was bitten by wolves in the mass grave."
She looked calm, but the three people behind her were anything but.
"Wolf?!"
Xi Xin cried out in alarm, her expression filled with fear and her eyes brimming with terror.
Did the boss encounter a wolf? And get bitten? The scene must have been very dangerous. She regrets not going with them yesterday, otherwise she would have been the one bitten.
Yu Shan and Yu He were filled with shame.
He Songwu rubbed the medicine on the side of her wound with his fingertip, smelled it, and suddenly his eyes lit up.
"This is a top-quality medicine. Now that you have used it, you don't need to use anything else."
"I'll prescribe some blood-nourishing and vitality-replenishing medicine for you. Take it internally and apply it externally; it will help you recover faster."
Hearing this, she had no objection and nodded.
While he was getting his medication, she walked to the counter and asked, "Dr. He, I'd like to ask if any women have come in before to get medication to prevent miscarriage? Or perhaps abortion pills?"
Dr. He thought for a moment and said, "There was one yesterday, what happened?"
"Yesterday? That's too early. Was it three or four days ago?"
Judging from the decay and lividity on the dead infant's body, it had been dead for at least three days.
He thought for a moment, then shook his head: "I can't remember. Although this isn't a big clinic, there are still quite a few people coming and going every day. How could I possibly remember so many?"
Why does Miss Tao ask this?
He Songwu wrapped the medicinal herbs and placed them in front of her.
"Oh, it's nothing, I was just asking casually."
He looked at her, paused, and said, "Four days ago, a servant from Chunzhu Tower came here to buy safflower. I sold it to him that day."
"Spring Candle Pavilion? What kind of place is that?"
She asked with a look of curiosity.
Yu Shan's expression changed as he stepped forward and leaned down to whisper in her ear.
"Boss, that's a brothel."
Tao Tao turned around and looked at him with a surprised expression.
"Oh, thank you. How much is this?"
"Forty coins."
Xi Xin stepped forward, took the medicinal herbs, and the four of them went outside.
She asked, "Have you retrieved everything that was left in the Privy Council carriage yesterday?"
Yu Shan nodded: "We got them all back, but..."
Seeing him hesitate, she turned to look at him with a puzzled expression: "What is it?"
"It's nothing, it's just that Lord Chen left us a carriage."
"What do you mean? Is it a gift for us?"
He scratched his head: "Probably."
The four men boarded a simple handcart and headed towards their shop on Chengnan Street.
"Great news! I've gotten a carriage for free."
She laughed with joy.
"The long box we got from Liang Yongsheng's shop, has no one touched it?"
What kind of box is it?
Xi Xin looked at the two of them curiously. After listening for so long, she finally had a chance to interject.
Tao Tao smiled and said, "It's just an ordinary box."
Yu Shan shook his head: "No, boss, you said no one is allowed to touch that box. I've been watching it the whole time, and no one has touched it. It's perfectly fine in the shop."
"That's good."
Spring Candle Pavilion…
Was the stillborn baby born because the baby deliberately ate safflower? Should that stillborn baby be handed over to the government office...?
Or should we just bury it?
She was lost in thought.
