Chapter 52 They Came to the Door in the Middle of the Night
The moment the door opened, a dagger, its cold, sharp light gleaming in the moonlight, suddenly stabbed down.
The man stood with his back to the light, hidden in the shadows. He dodged to the side, reached out and grabbed her delicate wrist, then turned and pinned her against the wall.
The result was a head-on collision, with foreheads slamming into chins with a dull thud.
Tao Tao couldn't help but gasp and gasp.
Duan Gan frowned and let out a muffled groan.
"It's me."
A familiar voice rang in her ears, and she suddenly looked up in shock.
"It's you?!"
The cold moonlight shone down from above his head, illuminating his handsome, almost otherworldly face. His eyes were dark and unfathomable, revealing only his crimson lips, making him appear eerily alluring in the darkness.
When she got closer, she could see that there were beads of blood seeping from her lips, and her fair chin was flushed red, clearly from the impact she had caused.
Serves you right!
She frowned and glared at him irritably.
He said curtly, "Is it inappropriate for you to visit so late at night, sir?"
As he spoke, he struggled to pull his hand away.
The man remained silent, gazing at her with an indescribable, almost aggressive, intent.
In her opinion, it was even more unsettling than his speech.
Tao Tao was pinned against the wall. Suddenly, he leaned closer, his eyes slightly narrowed, his gaze sweeping down as if searching for something.
Due to the disparity in strength, she suddenly gave up struggling. Facing his approach, she neither dodged nor flinched, and even pressed herself against him.
A soft, warm, and fragrant body suddenly pressed against her. The collision of hardness and softness made her feel his body stiffen, his breathing suddenly become heavier, and his pupils dilate.
Bang bang bang...
She felt a strong, unnatural heartbeat pounding within her, causing her heart to pound violently.
Their eyes met, their breaths mingling, and the atmosphere around them began to change.
Just before they met, she grinned, revealing her sharp white teeth, tilted her head, and opened her mouth to bite down on his artery.
He groaned in suppressed pain.
In an instant, my restless heart and hot-blooded head calmed down considerably.
It must have been that the snake meat was too nourishing, and because of the summer heat and excessive yang energy, he lost his senses for a moment.
Duan Gan said in a low, hoarse voice, "Give in."
But to her surprise, she didn't let go; instead, she bit even harder.
He released her hand, grabbed the back of her neck, pinched it threateningly, and said coldly, "Let's see if you bite through the side of your neck first, or if I'll just snap your neck."
After a few seconds, weighing the pros and cons, she gradually loosened her grip.
A bloody tooth mark appeared on the side of her fair neck.
He gripped the back of her neck tightly, like a cat whose life was being held, bloodstains around her mouth, her claws outstretched, making one want to tame her.
She stared at him with a face full of resentment.
He clicked his tongue. "I've come to return your food box."
Tao Tao was stunned for a moment, then looked down and saw that he was indeed carrying the food box she had given him in his right hand.
She turned her head away awkwardly: "Why didn't you say so earlier? Who would deliver a food box in the middle of the night? Someone as high-ranking as you could have just had it delivered tomorrow."
Why did you scare me like that?
In the end, it turned into muttering and whispering.
I still can't help but complain in my heart about what kind of thought process this person has.
Duan Gan heard her soft complaint, tilted his head to look at the paper figures in the yard, and said mockingly, "The work schedule of funeral directors is really different from that of the living. Can paper figures made in the middle of the night communicate with spirits?"
"Mind your own business."
Tao Tao reached out to take the food box from his hand, but found that he wouldn't let go at all.
With a clatter, he placed the food box on the ground.
She bent down to reach for it, but he grabbed her hands. Before she could react, half of the gauze on her hands was pulled off, leaving the other half stuck to the skin and flesh of her wound.
"You didn't use the medicine I gave you?"
Hearing the question, she looked up at him in surprise, as if wondering what he was up to.
"I used it today."
To be honest, there's nothing to hide.
"It was used too late, the wound worsened, and the tendons and veins were dislocated because they hadn't healed properly."
"What's misaligned?"
Tao Tao was startled, and a hint of fear appeared on her face.
If the object in her hand is misaligned, could it cause her hand to become useless?
No, that won't do. She still needs these hands to make a living. I didn't tell her any of this when she went to see the doctor.
He gave a silent, cold laugh: "Now you're nervous? Then why didn't you use my medicine before? Were you afraid I would poison you and harm you?"
"Sir, no, no, I didn't mean that."
The thought that he could find a better doctor immediately softened her attitude.
"I cherish the medicine you gave me, that's why I was reluctant to use it back then. But what should I do now? Please help me, sir."
He coldly observed her eloquent and flattering demeanor, but his heart was not as indifferent as it appeared.
Duan Gan bent down, picked up the food box from the ground, and strolled inside without saying a word.
Tao Tao followed behind him, not understanding what was going on, and then turned around and closed the door.
"come over."
He sat at the table and waved to her.
She obediently went up to him, stood in front of him, and looked both adorable and charming as she awaited his judgment.
"Let me see your hand."
As soon as she finished speaking, two small, wrapped hands were stretched out in front of him.
He only slightly lifted it to take a look, without touching the gauze tightly attached to the skin. "I'll have someone come and take a look at you first thing tomorrow morning."
Then he wrapped the scattered gauze back around her.
"Um."
She didn't thank him; he didn't need it anyway, since he was the one who did it to her hand.
She didn't say thank you, but she did make him look at her with slight surprise.
Just as Tao Tao was about to reach for the food box, a cold voice sounded above her head.
"If you want your hands ruined, go ahead and take it."
She was so startled that she quickly pulled her hand back, thinking, "Is it really that serious to pick up a food box?"
However, he wouldn't stoop to lying to himself, and it's unlikely he would lie to her either, as there would be no benefit in doing so. Therefore, in conclusion, what he said was the truth.
Do you really like snake soup?
He must have finished eating before he came to return the food box. She was still a little curious that someone actually liked to eat snakes.
Since the person is right in front of her, she can just ask whatever she wants.
Duan Gan frowned, his eyes filled with a strange mix of confusion and doubt.
Seeing his expression, she knew that Chen Jinghe must have lied to her.
That bastard actually dared to lie to her!
"Who told you that?"
"Of course..."
Her eyes darted around, and she changed her tune: "Of course it was me, I guessed it myself."
Chen Jinghe is someone close to him. Even if she tells him, he won't do anything to him. On the contrary, she will offend people. If she doesn't tell him, he will definitely owe her a favor.
"I'm sorry, I guessed wrong. I didn't know what you liked to eat. I also made sweet pear soup with sugar. Did you like it?"
The man nodded slightly. "Don't make this snake soup again."
What about the future? There is no future!
