Chapter 250
"Mother, where is my sister? I want to see her."
Tao Liang looked up at Xia Zhaohua, whose big eyes, similar to Tao Tao's, blinked.
She reached out and patted his head, smiling soothingly, "Liang'er, be good. Your sister is busy right now and doesn't have time. Let's go see her in a few days, okay?"
He lowered his head, his little face dejected, and reluctantly said, "Okay."
Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, followed by a servant's voice: "Madam, we have guests in the hall."
guest?
Xi Xin frowned, got up to open the door, and asked, "Who is it?"
There's no signboard here, so why would anyone come to our door? Even if they were customers of the shop, we wouldn't let them come to our home.
"They said they were from the Prince's residence and wanted to see the First Madam."
Those inside the room, hearing the noise outside, were all wondering who the so-called guest was.
Xia Zhaohua got up and walked out. "Let's go, I'll go see him."
When the group arrived at the hall, they saw the person sitting in the armchair and felt that the person looked somewhat familiar.
Xia Chaohua had seen her more often than others, so he knew who this person was. He walked over and smiled, "Jia Hui, what brings you here?"
Murong Jia Hui was about to speak when she suddenly noticed so many people behind her. Remembering Tao Tao's instructions, she hesitated and stopped speaking.
She realized she was inconvenienced and turned to let them all leave.
"Alright, you can speak frankly now."
After confirming that there were no further questions, Murong Jia Hui relayed everything Tao Tao and she had said to Xia Chaohua.
A flash of light appeared, lightning cleaved the gray sky, making a chilling crackling sound, as if a hole had been torn in the sky, and a torrential downpour began.
Xia Zhaohua was shocked upon hearing this, but then her expression turned to joy. She stood up excitedly and said, "Thank you, Jia Hui. I understand."
"In that case, Aunt Tao, I'll head back now."
She frowned slightly, looked at the courtyard, and said, "It's raining so hard, why don't you wait a while? I'll have someone bring you some ginger tea to warm you up."
"Yes, miss, the rain is so heavy, let's wait a while before going back."
The maid was also trying to persuade her from the side.
In the end, Murong Jia Hui stayed. Xia Chaohua had to prepare some things, so he said goodbye to her and left.
Back in the room, Xi Xin couldn't wait to ask, and Xia Zhaohua told her the truth. She also asked Shu Hua and Zhu Xia to start packing, preparing only the simple necessities.
Most importantly, bring money.
Xi Xin and Yu Shan were somewhat disappointed upon hearing this, and couldn't help but wonder why they weren't taken away as well.
In the end, Xixin remembered what Tao Tao had told her before, and said with a forced smile, "Why are you all so discouraged? Have you forgotten that the shop needs someone to manage it?"
“We’re all gone. Who’s going to manage these dozen or so shops? The boss trusts us. Besides, it’s just the First Madam going out for a trip, not the boss.”
But her mother and brother are gone, so she can't possibly stay here alone.
Yu Shan knew this in his heart, but he was still very reluctant to part with it. As the shop expanded, his and his brother's monthly allowance was no longer the two taels of silver they used to receive.
They bought a new house, wore new clothes, and had meat at every meal, which made them very content.
If it weren't for her, they would still be starving and cold, so they have to do their best to serve her.
Ji Xianming clearly had other thoughts on his mind, and stroked his chin, "What about me?"
Xi Xin smiled playfully, "Brother Ji is still the same as always. You've been a江湖人 (jianghu person) for so long, haven't you gotten tired of the fighting and killing in the jianghu yet?"
“It’s so much better to stay in our shop, Brother Ji, so you shouldn’t be thinking about anything else.”
During their time together, they learned that Ji Xian only appeared fierce on the outside, but was actually a very good person, loyal and righteous, just a little quiet.
When I first arrived at the shop, I barely spoke more than two words a day.
Upon hearing this, Ji Xian remained silent.
Before long, the rain gradually subsided, and the two maids, Shuhua and Zhuxia, finished packing their things. Everyone changed into inconspicuous cotton dresses, trying their best not to leave an impression on others.
Murong Jia Hui also came to say goodbye. No sooner had she left than Xia Chaohua got into the carriage behind her.
Xi Xin reached out and hugged Xia Guo, tears welling in her eyes, "Aunt Tao, have a safe journey, and take good care of yourselves."
“And Liang’er.” She bent down and looked at the bewildered Tao Liang.
A light drizzle, carried by the wind, felt cool on their faces. The four of them stood there watching the departing carriage gradually become a black dot.
Xiquan hid in the back like a rat that couldn't stand the light, looking indignant.
He wanted to leave too; he had even considered sneaking away, but before he could carry out the plan, he was overcome by an unbearable abdominal pain.
At first, he thought he had eaten something bad, but it turned out that Tao Tao, that insidious woman, had poisoned him in order to control him.
He tried to find a doctor, but even the doctor didn't know what kind of poison it was and had no way to treat it.
When he was in excruciating pain, Tao Tao sent someone to deliver the antidote, but it didn't completely relieve his pain; it was only temporary. He would have to get the medicine from her every fifteenth of the month.
He didn't know what she was up to. Fortunately, there was food and drink here, and since he had been poisoned, he hadn't even stepped out of the courtyard during this time.
The carriage sped through the rain and soon arrived at the city gate. After being inspected by the gate guards, it was allowed to pass in no time.
As they passed by the mortuary, Rong'er, who was waiting by the roadside, spotted the approaching carriage and quickly jumped off, waving excitedly at them.
The coachman was puzzled when he saw this, but he still slowly stopped.
Rong'er walked over with a paper umbrella and called out, "Madam, it's me, Rong'er! And Granny Wu is here too."
Less than two seconds later, the carriage curtain was lifted from the inside, revealing Xia Chaohua's surprised face. She asked, "What are you doing here? Is Tao'er here too?"
Rong'er was a little anxious and couldn't explain it clearly, so Granny Wu gave a brief explanation and followed beside them, continuing to walk forward in the rain.
The Prince's Residence.
After Murong Huaishi and Lu Shuqing saw everyone off, Lu Shuqing frowned and looked around, saying impatiently, "Just take all those things down, it's such a waste of time."
Murong Huaishi arrived at Tao Tao's courtyard, and a maidservant rushed in to announce his arrival.
The two sat facing each other. He looked at Tao Tao, who had a calm expression, and said irritably, "What do we do now? Lord Duan will definitely not let the Prince's Mansion go."
By accepting this marriage, he was essentially betraying Duan Gan. The Crown Prince was already in prison; how long could he possibly escape unscathed?
“I told you long ago we couldn’t do this. Look at us, why did we have to provoke the Crown Prince? Now we’re all doomed.”
