But a bad feeling was creeping into his heart. Ever since his so-called twin brother was brought back to the Lu family, that unease had grown stronger and stronger.
Hearing his impatient tone, the woman on the bed, though feeling wronged, could only prop herself up and sit up.
Her long, black, silky hair cascaded over her shoulders, making her skin appear even whiter and more delicate.
Thinking of their passionate encounter last night, Lu Zhiyan's eyes darkened, and he felt his desire stirring again beneath the covers.
No wonder she was chosen by her family for a marriage alliance with her twin brother; her body is indeed quite beautiful.
Unfortunately, he managed to trick her into sleeping with him in just half a month.
I don't know if my twin brother will like the gift I prepared for him, since I've used it myself.
After the woman handed him the phone, Lu Zhiyan glanced at the caller ID and immediately composed himself.
"Where are you?"
Soon, Lu Zhiyan heard his mother, Madam Lu's, voice on the other end of the phone. Lu Zhiyan felt inexplicably guilty and gestured to the woman beside him to keep quiet.
"Mom, I'm at a hotel. I worked late at the company last night, so I stayed at a hotel nearby and didn't go home."
"work overtime?"
Madam Lu gave a cold laugh and threw the photo in her hand onto the table.
"The driver said you took a woman to a hotel yesterday. Did I disturb you?"
Lu Zhiyan felt as if her blood had frozen. She swallowed hard before she could find her voice again.
But before he could speak, Madam Lu spoke again: "Alright, your brother is back now, what kind of older brother are you?"
Hearing her mention that person, Lu Zhiyan breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed that his mother still didn't know who the woman he slept with last night was.
The hands hanging at his sides gradually clenched into fists.
Unfortunately, her mother still listened to the words of that dead Taoist priest from back then, believing that the appearance of a chosen one could resolve the Lu family's crisis.
Now that this chosen one has slept with him, and since they are twins anyway, it doesn't matter if he sleeps with her, right?
Lu Zhiyan responded and waved to the woman over there.
Thinking of his madness last night, a blush flashed across the woman's face as she covered her chest with her hands and leaned closer to him.
Lu Zhiyan easily pulled the woman into his arms.
The woman's cheeks turned visibly red from his ministrations, and she soon became breathless.
Upon hearing the strange humming sound on the other end of the phone, Mrs. Lu frowned immediately and asked sternly, "What are you doing!"
The woman in his arms was startled and quickly pushed him away, covering herself with the blanket.
Lu Zhiyan smiled indifferently, opened his palm, and his eyes held an inscrutable expression.
"You've already arranged a marriage for my brother, and I heard that her parents left behind a lot of inheritance after they passed away. I feel a bit resentful, can't I even vent a little?"
Upon hearing this, the flush on the woman's face, who was covering herself with the blanket, gradually faded, and she bit her lip in embarrassment.
She looked at Lu Zhiyan in disbelief. Didn't he say he liked her? Did he really think that way about her?
Mrs. Lu didn't know how to explain the reason to her son, so she could only change the subject: "You should come back quickly and help your brother get familiar with the company. Your father and I plan to introduce him to the board of directors in a while."
Lu Zhiyan smiled coldly and replied, "Understood."
After Mrs. Lu hung up the phone, Lu Zhiyan lifted the covers, got dressed, and prepared to get out of bed.
The woman watched his retreating figure, a hint of hurt flashing in her eyes. She couldn't help but ask, "Ayan, the person I want to marry is you. Didn't you say you would discuss our engagement with your family?"
Lu Zhiyan paused in buttoning her clothes, then turned to look at her as if she had heard the biggest joke in the world.
"What are you talking about? It's always been my brother who's engaged to you."
These words turned the woman's face pale. She asked him incredulously, "What do you mean? Didn't we agree on this last night..."
Before she could finish speaking, Lu Zhiyan interrupted her, a mocking and playful glint in his eyes: "When did we agree on this? Last night was just because I was worried that my brother, who came back from the temple, couldn't give you happiness, so I, as the older brother, stepped in to make you a real woman..."
He paused here, his gaze lingering on the woman's fair skin, where he had left several red marks near her delicate collarbone.
It has to be said that she has a great figure. If that woman hadn't appeared, he might have been willing to play along with her.
But now an even more interesting person has appeared; he can't wait to find out if that woman is related to his younger brother.
The woman couldn't take it anymore and grabbed a pillow from the side and threw it at him.
"You're shameless! How dare you humiliate me like this!"
The woman's eyes were somewhat bloodshot from anger.
His chest heaved with each breath, clearly indicating that he had been greatly stimulated.
Lu Zhiyan was hit on the head, clicked his tongue, and suddenly, as if remembering something, yanked the blanket covering the woman's body off.
"Don't forget, your parents are dead. If you don't marry into my family, do you think you can get any inheritance?"
Upon hearing him mention this, the woman's face flashed with annoyance, regretting that she had impulsively told him about it.
She was filled with hatred, never expecting that the person she thought could save her would ultimately kick her into the abyss again.
Seeing her curled up in a ball with her head down and not saying a word, Lu Zhiyan's gaze fell on her slightly reddened knees.
