When Su Ping pushed the door open, she saw Su Zhinan lying on the chair as if all his strength had been drained away.
The emotions he exuded contained so much, like resentment, yet also like a silent compromise.
"dad."
Upon hearing Su Ping's voice, Su Zhinan thought he was hallucinating, but he still sat up straight and looked towards the door.
Upon seeing his daughter standing there smiling at him, his eyes reddened, and he quickly spun around in his chair to turn his back and compose himself.
A few seconds later, he turned back, looked at her with a relaxed expression, smiled, and asked, "Pingping, what brings you to the company to keep your dad company today?"
Although he was trying to smile, his eyes were bloodshot from working overtime for several days, and he looked quite dejected.
This was in stark contrast to her father, who always had a smile on his face and a calm demeanor.
Su Ping suddenly felt a pang of sadness. In order not to worry Su Zhinan, she could only pretend that she knew nothing.
She smiled and waved the bag she was carrying at him before walking over to him.
“I heard Aunt Mei say she was coming over to bring you clothes and porridge, so I came over to check on you.”
As Su Ping spoke, she took out the thermos from the bag.
After lifting the lid, the porridge inside was still steaming.
"Dad, no matter how busy you are at work, remember to eat on time."
Su Ping ladled a bowl of porridge for him and handed it to him. She noticed that his eyes seemed even redder than before.
Su Zhinan responded and took it, then haphazardly scooped out two spoonfuls and put them in his mouth.
Seeing this, Aunt Mei and Uncle Feng exchanged a glance and quietly slipped away.
Inside the office, only the occasional sounds of the father and daughter talking and laughing could be heard.
The atmosphere seemed quite harmonious, and Su Zhinan was able to release a lot of the emotions that had been building up in his chest.
Looking at Su Zhinan, who was pretending to be strong in front of her, Su Ping secretly made a decision.
Just then, the cell phone on the table suddenly rang.
The sudden ringtone filled the entire office. Su Zhinan took two tissues, wiped his mouth, and then picked up his phone.
After glancing at the incoming call notification, his expression froze for a moment.
After learning that their company was in trouble, the Xu family wanted to help, but they were busy with a project and couldn't offer much assistance.
So when he saw that Xu's father was calling him, he was stunned for a moment.
After the call connected, Xu's father's cheerful voice rang out: "Old Su, good news."
Su Ping watched as her father's expression shifted from initial confusion to disbelief. She couldn't hear what was being said on the other end of the line, but she knew that after hanging up, her father clearly felt a sense of relief.
Completely different from her dejected appearance just now.
"Dad, what's wrong?"
Su Ping had a vague idea of what was going on, but seeing this, she could only pretend that she knew nothing.
Recalling what Xu's father had just told him on the phone, Su Zhinan still felt like he was dreaming.
It took him a while to come to his senses before he looked at Su Ping and said, "Pingping, actually, Dad's company had some problems a while ago."
"That's why Dad hasn't had time to come home, but now..."
He suddenly stopped talking at this point.
Then he waved his hand, his tone noticeably more relaxed: "Now things have taken a turn for the better. Once Dad's done with this busy period, I'll take you out for a good two weeks of fun, okay?"
Su Ping could tell that Su Zhinan didn't want her to worry, so he chose not to continue.
So he nodded, went up and gave Su Zhinan a big hug: "I knew Dad was the best. I'll have to think about where to go when I get back."
This warm embrace left Su Zhinan stunned for a long time.
The next second, his vision blurred, and he secretly wiped away his tears.
This was the first time in a long time that her daughter had taken the initiative to hug her; before, she had even resisted her approach.
After leaving the Su Group, Su Ping inexplicably turned on his phone.
Shen Jiayu did not contact him.
But she knew he was the one who did it.
This favor is very heavy, and she cannot repay it. As for the condition he mentioned earlier...
Thinking of this, Su Ping sent him a message, asking if he had time tonight and if they could meet up.
There was no reply after the message was sent; they must be busy.
To show her sincerity, Su Ping booked a restaurant and sent him the restaurant information before he replied with an "okay".
Over there, Shen Jiayu looked at his phone screen with a confident smile on his face.
This tactic of retreating to advance seems to have worked quite well for her.
Inside the building, Lu Zhiyan's phone, which was accompanying Mrs. Lu shopping for clothes, suddenly vibrated twice.
He glanced at Lu Zhiyan, who was a meter away from him, and looked disgusted.
His mother took him out to buy some clothes, and he stood there like a wooden statue; anyone who didn't know him would think they didn't recognize him.
"Zhiyan, come and keep Mom company. I'm going to take this call."
Upon hearing Lu Zhiyan's voice, Lu Zhiyan seemed to wake from a dream and looked at the two of them.
Unsurprisingly, he saw the disdain in their eyes.
He always knew his mother didn't like him, and when the two of them were alone, he wouldn't even pretend.
But at this moment, she quickly concealed the emotions in her eyes and waved to him with a friendly expression: "Zhiyan, why are you standing so far away? Come over and pick out some clothes. Aren't you going to have dinner with Miss Su tonight?"
