As the scent of the person she wanted to see drew closer, Lele refused to go with her no matter what.
"So you're going to kick me away after I've served my purpose, huh? Come here!"
Ignoring its resistance, Su Ping hoisted it onto her shoulder and strode to the other side.
Just kidding, the female lead is supposed to be a dog lover. If she saw her employer's dog, she'd be glued to it.
The atmosphere in the conference room of the Shen Group was oppressive; everyone hung their heads, not daring to utter a sound.
Here we go again. The boss has an episode about ten days a month, and he takes it out on his employees.
"Speak! Are you all mute? The company is just keeping you around for free!"
Everyone was startled when they heard the folder being slammed onto the table.
The madman, why did he inexplicably call them into a meeting without explaining the content? What are they supposed to say?
No matter what they say, they're just walking into the line of fire; it's all wrong!
The "ding-dong" sound made everyone's hearts jump into their throats.
They remember putting their phones on airplane mode before entering the meeting room, so whose phone could be ringing?
Whoever it is, it's not me.
Just as everyone was wondering who that unfortunate soul was, they saw Shen Jiayu pick up his phone.
Su Ping: "Brother, your dog is with me. When is it convenient for you to come and pick it up, or should I bring it to you?"
Meeting adjourned!
The crowd looked at the man who strode out of the conference room, exchanging bewildered glances.
What a madman!
Inside the Su residence, Su Ping looked at Lele, who was tilting her head back and protesting at her, and was at a loss.
"Aunt Mei, don't dogs love to gnaw on bones?"
"Miss, you should watch less TV dramas."
Aunt Mei looked at the huge white bone in the basin, which was thicker than her own arm, and for a moment she didn't know whether to pity the dog or the person.
A WeChat notification sounded, and she opened it.
It was an address sent by Shen Jiayu, the place where she had fainted and woken up last time.
"Come on, let me take you home."
Hearing this, Lele, who had just been feeling utterly hopeless, suddenly perked up and jumped to her feet.
"Uncle Feng, you go back first. I might be back later. I'll call you then."
She was only allowed to pass after her information was registered at the security office.
The security system here is very good; Su Ping can't figure out how that silly dog managed to get out.
The location wasn't hard to find, and Su Ping rang the doorbell.
A short while later, a kind-looking old man came to open the door for her.
"Is this Miss Su? The master has instructed that you can go directly to the second floor to find him."
"And you are?"
"Just call me Uncle Wu. Give Lele to me, Miss Su."
Uncle Wu took a new pair of slippers from the shelf next to her.
Lele seemed very fond of him, jumping behind him without looking back.
Su Ping changed her shoes and said, "Uncle Wu, just call me Pingping. I'll go upstairs now."
She had been here once before and found that there was no one else here except Uncle Wu, and that little brat Silan was not there either.
The slippers made a clattering sound as they stepped on the wooden stairs.
[Huluwa, something's off. I have a bad feeling.]
[Host, today is the anniversary of Gu Lan's death. Since returning from the cemetery, Shen Jiayu has been locking himself in his room drinking. He won't allow any servants to disturb him today.]
Su Ping's raised foot stopped there, staring at the last step, unsure whether to put it down or not.
Is it too late for her to turn back now?
[No, host. In the original storyline, the female lead went in, and Shen Jiayu's descent into darkness accelerated. If you don't go in, the original storyline will continue to develop.]
Does that mean someone has to go in today?
The door to the room was tightly closed, and Su Ping could smell the alcohol emanating from under the door crack even while standing at the doorway.
"Knock knock knock..."
There was no movement.
Did he die from alcohol poisoning?
Undeterred, she knocked again, and this time the door was opened from the inside.
The room was dark, with the lights off and the curtains drawn.
As soon as she stepped inside, she heard the door close, plunging the room into complete darkness.
"Don't move!"
Sensing her intention, Shen Jiayu moved closer from behind and took her hand as she tried to turn on the light.
"Okay, I won't move, just let me go first."
Su Ping's hair stood on end. Just how much had Shen Jiayu drunk? He was practically leaning his whole body against her!
After the weight was removed, Su Ping realized that Shen Jiayu had left, and then she groped her way forward.
It was so dark that I stepped on an empty wine bottle on the ground after only a few steps, and I fell forward uncontrollably.
The pain she had imagined didn't come, but it still sent chills down her spine.
She threw herself at Shen Jiayu!
"You like me that much? Hmm?"
Shen Jiayu put one arm around her, his cool fingers sliding up her neck and across her face, sending shivers of pleasure through her.
"It's too bright, I don't like it."
The hands finally rested on her eyes, and the words spoken were devoid of warmth.
It looked like they were about to gouge her eyes out at any moment.
Su Ping was startled and tried to get up, supporting herself on his chest.
"Brother, you're drunk."
Shen Jiayu was lost in his own thoughts and murmured to himself.
"Today is the anniversary of her death. It's been three years. Looking at the photo on her tombstone, her smile is still so vivid, as if she's still by my side."
Su Ping listened quietly; as long as he didn't have an attack, she was willing to be a listener.
"Do you think it's possible that she might come back to me in another way—no, in a different body?"
Upon hearing this, an alarm bell rang in Su Ping's mind.
This is a test; he's practically about to say Song Yifei's name out loud.
"Brother, let her go, and let yourself go too. She certainly doesn't want you to live in pain. Fate is something you can't force..."
"Shut up!"
Shen Jiayu didn't want to listen to her anymore, so he simply grabbed her neck with his hand.
Finally, it quieted down.
Su Ping was surprised by his sudden outburst and began to have difficulty breathing. She tried to hit his hand with all her might, but his hand remained firmly still, like an iron clamp.
Just when she thought she was going to die there, the hand suddenly loosened its grip and hugged her tightly in its arms.
As fresh air rushed in, Su Ping's mind gradually cleared. She had never felt that the air could smell so good.
"Don't you dream about her? Please tell her for me that I really miss her, okay?"
He's gone mad again.
Su Ping felt like his ribs were about to be broken. Wasn't this guy drinking? How come he still has so much energy?!
"Okay, okay, let go of me first."
He patted Shen Jiayu's shoulder gently, sensing that Shen Jiayu's emotions had calmed down.
She was waiting for the right moment. As soon as this bastard let go of her, she would immediately get up and give him a good beating. Anyway, he would black out the next day and wouldn't remember anything.
