Chapter 2: I won't give you your wages!

The words that reached Lin Chuan's ears were all too familiar; she had said the same thing at this time in his previous life.

Lin Chuan had no intention of returning to this home; there was nothing left for him to miss.

Seeing that Lin Chuan remained unmoved and continued walking away, Wu Chunhua shouted at the top of her lungs, as if she wanted everyone in Yuquan Village to hear her.

"Lin Chuan, if you walk out of this courtyard today, you'll lose me as your mother. You're heartless, an ungrateful wretch, and you'll be the talk of the town!"

It was harvest time, and although it was still quite dark, everyone was up.

As soon as Wu Chunhua started making a fuss, all the neighbors came out to look in this direction.

Lin Chuan's adoptive father, Lin Youfu, and his daughter, Lin Caifeng, also came out of the house.

Lin Caifeng was sleeping when she was woken up, and she was extremely resentful.

"Brother, what are you making such a fuss about so early in the morning? All you did was ask your wife to cook some food. Did you really have to take her to the county hospital?"

Lin Youfu, with a rolled-up pipe in his hand and a furrowed brow, said, "Dachuan, put the cart down right now. What kind of behavior is this, making such a racket and giving the villagers a reason to laugh at you!"

Lin Chuan stopped and turned to look at his wife and daughter. He chuckled. In his past life, he had been too conflicted and hesitant at the beginning, which resulted in the loss of the love of his life and his two daughters.

Right now, nothing is more important than my wife and daughters.

Seeing Lin Chuan stop, Wu Chunhua and the others thought they had persuaded him, and they were quite pleased with themselves.

"Hurry up and apologize to me, and let your wife go cook. I'll pretend this never happened." Wu Chunhua said smugly, hands on her hips, as if she were the most magnanimous person she could be.

Lin Chuan didn't even glance at Wu Chunhua and the others. Once he had settled his wife and daughter, he was going to take revenge for the grudge from his past life!

But wait, he almost forgot something important.

Lin Chuan rested the edge of the cart on a nearby dead tree stump to steady himself, then strode into the house.

Wu Chunhua thought he had come to apologize, but Lin Chuan not only bypassed her but also went around Lin Youfu and went straight into the house.

Lin Chuan entered Wu Chunhua and Lin Youfu's room and pulled out the household registration booklet directly from under the pile of quilts on the kang (a heated brick bed).

Wu Chunhua and Lin Youfu followed him in and saw him putting his household registration book into his pocket.

"Lin Chuan, what are you doing with the household registration book? Put it back!"

Lin Chuan glanced at her, "Register my child's birth!"

If you don't take your household registration now, it won't be easy to get it back later.

Seeing Lin Chuan's cold expression, Lin Youfu reached out to stop him, but Lin Chuan was strong and pulled him aside, then strode away, picking up his cart and leaving.

Xu Chunmai lay down on the cart, but she couldn't stay still at all.

"Dachuan..."

Lin Chuan was an adopted son, and in Xu Chunmai's mind, he had never had a good life and always had to be mindful of others' opinions no matter what he did.

How could she bear to see Lin Chuan called an ingrate and gossiped about behind his back?

Lin Chuan didn't stop. "Chunmai, you lie down and rest. We're not going back to this house anymore. Don't worry, I'll make sure you and the two kids live a good life."

Xu Chunmai was deeply moved, but she couldn't help feeling worried.

“But Da Chuan, people will gossip about you.”

Lin Chuan didn't care at all. "Whoever doesn't mind the trouble can chew. Can gossiping fill your stomach?"

Xu Chunmai felt a warmth in her heart.

"Chunmai, believe me, I promise I will never let you and the two kids suffer again."

Lin Chuan assured him.

Xu Chunmai has always trusted Lin Chuan.

She nodded silently. "Da Chuan, I believe you."

The contractions struck again, and Xu Chunmai frowned, curling up on her side.

Daya was terrified. "Mommy, are you in a lot of pain?"

Da Ya's soft voice drifted into Lin Chuan's ears, and Lin Chuan quickened his pace.

Childbirth is always a life-or-death experience for women.

He really wanted to comfort Xu Chunmai, but it would be futile to say anything now. As a grown man, he couldn't possibly feel any pain for his wife.

Xu Chunmai took Daya's hand and said, "Mom is okay, don't be afraid, don't be afraid."

Daya's little hand gripped Xu Chunmai tightly, "Mommy..."

The eldest daughter's soft, sweet voice was right behind me.

Lin Chuan walked along, sighing as he went.

In his past life, his eldest daughter went missing when she was three years old, before he even had a chance to give her a proper name. He searched for her for twenty years.

He searched for her while doing business. He did business so that he could have more money to support his search for his daughter. He never gave up for a moment.

It wasn't until his sister-in-law, Lin Xinglong's wife, took his money and let it slip that he learned that Daya had been sold by Wu Chunhua.

Having obtained a clue, he finally found Daya.

When he arrived at the remote mountain village where Daya had lived for twenty years, what did he see?

Da Ya, who is only 23 years old, looks like a woman in her forties.

Her eyes were vacant, and she was filthy. She huddled in the cowshed, and anyone who came near her would tremble.

The house was dilapidated, and there were six dirty children.

Yes, his 23-year-old eldest daughter started having children at the age of 15, and in eight years she had a total of six children.

In addition to being subjected to domestic violence and abuse, her health had long since collapsed.

He desperately pulled Daya into his arms and rushed her to the hospital, but it was too late.

His daughter, her life force nearly exhausted, died in his arms without even calling him "Dad."

Countless times in the dead of night, he imagined his two daughters growing up beside him.

He specially arranged two houses, which were filled with little girls' clothes, dolls, cosmetics, and so on.
