Chapter 20 Next Steps

Upon hearing this, Qian Jinhua couldn't help but glance at Lin Chuan a few more times.

Lin Chuan was only twenty-two years old, while Qian Jinhua was older.

In that instant, Qian Jinhua felt that Lin Chuan was the same age as her.

However, no matter what, Lin Chuan is now making money and treating his daughter well, and she is very content.

"Da Chuan, you're right. As long as you two live a good life, we old folks will be content."

Once the dough had risen sufficiently, Lin Chuan prepared the dumpling filling.

He and Qian Jinhua started making dumplings after setting up the work surface.

Xu Chunmai washed her hands and was about to come over to make dumplings when Lin Chuan stopped her.

"Chunmai, you can just go for a walk in the fields. Don't bother making dumplings. It's getting cold now, and the dough isn't warm yet. You'll catch a cold and suffer the consequences." Lin Chuan smiled at her. "If you can't sit still on the kang or sleep, find a cushion and sit here for a while. Chat with me and Mom."

Xu Chunmai actually found a cushion and said, "Dachuan, you've protected me too well. I'm not that precious. Besides, you've been bringing back all sorts of good things these past few days, so I've recovered very well."

Lin Chuan looked at Xu Chunmai's eyebrows and eyes; the starlight in her eyes as she looked at him shone brightly.

Recalling his past life, when Xu Chunmai suffered a difficult childbirth and postpartum hemorrhage, her gray and lifeless eyes still made Lin Chuan's heart tremble.

"I didn't recover well when I gave birth to Shu Ning, so I'll take care of myself this time too." Lin Chuan put down a dumpling he had made. "Besides, we were just talking about taking the college entrance exam together next year. How can you study hard without good health?"

Xu Chunmai felt a sweet warmth in her heart.

She loved Lin Chuan deeply. He was her man, the man she wanted to spend her life with.

As the topic of the college entrance examination came up, the door suddenly opened.

Lin Chuan went over and saw that his older sister Lin Yan and her husband Xie Shaowen had arrived.

"Big sister, big brother-in-law."

Lin Yan has a very keen sense of smell. "Da Chuan, are you making dumplings at home?"

With that, the group went into the east room.

Qian Jinhua smiled at Lin Yan, "Yanzi, Da Chuan bought meat and noodles. Call the kids and your in-laws over to eat together. There's so much."

Lin Yan quickly declined, "Auntie, no need, no need. We've already cooked some dishes at home. We came to talk to Da Chuan about the college entrance exam."

Lin Chuan held a dumpling wrapper flat in his palm, then put the filling inside. "Have you and your brother-in-law thought it through?"

Lin Yan nodded, "Yes, your brother-in-law, my parents-in-law, and I have discussed it these past few days. We'll study, and if we don't pass the exam in one year, we'll try again in two. We're sure we'll pass!"

Lin Chuan smiled, his whole face radiating light.

“That’s right, sister, brother-in-law. As long as you two are willing to learn, I guarantee you’ll be fine. Chunmai and I have also discussed it, and we’ll take the exam next year too.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Yan was overjoyed. "That would be even better! Let's work together and encourage and supervise each other."

Xu Chunmai looked at Lin Chuan and liked him more and more.

Her man is good-looking, earns money, and has a long-term vision.

Lin Chuan placed another dumpling, wrapped like a gold ingot, on the ground. "It's good that it's settled. If you need anything later, just let me know. We're all family."

Lin Yan knew that Lin Chuan had moved his household registration back.

Now, she is officially her third brother.

In fact, over the years, she has never regarded him as a cousin, and has always been concerned about him.

Because of her uncle and aunt, and because her third brother has always been very filial to them, she had no choice.

It's fine as it is now.

"Chunmai, give the other set of books I bought to your eldest sister. I'll buy another one later. Let them keep an eye on it for now," Lin Chuan instructed.

Xu Chunmai naturally did whatever Lin Chuan said.

Xie Shaowen didn't want to accept so many favors from Lin Chuan, because the books were quite expensive. Nobody's money grows on trees.

Seeing Xu Chunmai carrying a lot of books, Lin Yan quickly took them.

Xie Shaowen rubbed his nose. "Da Chuan, thank you. We'll keep this book for now, and I'll buy more later and return it to you then."

Lin Chuan knew that Xie Shaowen cared about his image.

He said deliberately, "Brother-in-law, I bought two sets of the same book. I'll give you this set; you don't need to pay it back. Just be nice to me when you pass the exam."

Upon hearing this, Xie Shaowen immediately said, "Of course you are the biggest contributor to our success in getting into university, and we will never forget that."

Lin Chuan sighed, "Alright, brother-in-law, you keep your word. Don't forget us wherever you make your fortune."

Lin Yan really liked her third brother.

He looked at the dumplings Lin Chuan had arranged neatly and said, "Da Chuan, these dumplings are pretty nicely wrapped and arranged quite neatly."

Xu Chunmai said gently, "Yes, eldest sister, Dachuan does everything very well."

Seeing her like this, Lin Yan couldn't help but tease her, "Third sister-in-law, all you do is praise your man."

After wrapping the dumplings, Qian Jinhua went to cook them.

Before long, the white, plump dumplings were served.

Lin Chuan carried two plates to Lin Yan.

Xie Shaowen and his parents were quite embarrassed, so they brought him back the eggs they had collected over the past few days.

When Xu Shengli returned from work, he smelled the aroma of dumplings.

Zhang Tieniu, carrying a hoe next door, also smelled the delicious aroma wafting from Old Xu's house.

These past few days, Old Xu's family has been stewing chicken every day, and he's been craving meat so much.

"Your son-in-law is hopeless. All he does is spend money; he's a spendthrift. He'll ruin the family sooner or later!"

Xu Shengli snorted, "Yeah, your son is something else. He feeds you coarse food every day, and before your family is even ruined, you're already dead."

Zhang Tieniu was so angry he was panting heavily. Eating that stuff every day really made him lose all his energy for work.
