Chapter 57 Seeking Master's Forgiveness

Seeing that Lin Chuan hadn't spoken for a while, Lei Yutang asked, "Brother, do you have any ideas?"

Lin Chuan snapped out of his reverie upon hearing the voice. “You can learn whatever you’re interested in. I was just thinking, I do know a master carpenter with exceptional skills, but I’m not sure if he’ll agree to take on apprentices.”

"You two wait here with the carpenter for a bit. I'll go ask around and get back to you. If that doesn't work, we'll find another one."

Fang Qiang and Wu Haijun were very happy to hear this. "Okay, big brother, we'll listen to you."

Other apprentices are also easy to find; Lei Yutang and his group already know many people, making things much easier.

After the matter was settled, everyone went home.

Lin Chuan sat under the lamp, reading and doing exercises, but he just couldn't calm down tonight.

As the saying goes, "A teacher for a day is a father for life."

His feelings toward Fang Cili were different from those toward his biological father, Lin Qingyou.

He wants to correct the mistakes he made in his past life.

This is his sin, and he must atone for it.

The next morning, the sky was overcast. It didn't snow, but it was very cold outside.

Lin Wei brought back fresh meat, his face red from the cold. He took off his hat and rubbed his hands, saying, "It's really cold outside today, this has chilled me to the bone."

Lin Chuan scooped the braised meat out of the pot. "It's cold enough. It would be a little warmer if it snowed."

Lin Wei began to butcher the meat, cutting it piece by piece with remarkable skill.

"If it snows, I won't go back tonight; the three of us brothers will stay at the inn."

"Second brother, cut me a piece of pork belly and get me half a rack of spare ribs," Lin Chuan said while packing the braised meat.

Lin Wei's movements were very efficient. "I remembered what you said this morning. I specifically asked for an extra half-carrot of pork today."

As he spoke, he placed the cleaned ribs and the cut pork belly aside and tied them with straw rope.

"Da Chuan, where are you going?" Lin Ping asked as he walked over.

Lin Chuan looked out the window and let out a long sigh. "Let's go see a teacher."

"Big brother, second brother, I don't know when I'll be back today, so please take care of things at the shop."

Lin Ping said, "What's so hard about it? There's money to be made, so it's not hard. You go ahead with your work, your second brother and I are perfectly fine."

After finishing his morning work, Lin Chuan ate a bowl of noodles and then left with his things.

Fang Cili's home is in the county town, but it's almost in the suburbs, so it's quite far.

Lin Chuan continued south, the winter wind whipping against his face like a knife, causing him intense pain.

It was really cold today. Even though I was wearing thick clothes, I was still freezing.

After turning the last corner, Lin Chuan saw a solitary courtyard standing in the distance; this was Fang Cili's home.

The closer Lin Chuan got, the more nervous he became.

How long has it been since he last came here?

The snow at the entrance of the courtyard was swept clean, and you could see the black soil.

Looking through the wooden fence, everything in the yard was still the same as before, meticulous and orderly.

The firewood was stacked very neatly, and the snow in the yard had been swept clean.

Everything was still in its original place.

Smoke was billowing from the house's chimney, and you could see people walking by inside the windows.

The gate was open. Lin Chuan took a deep breath and walked straight into the house.

The door was wrapped in a thick quilt to keep it warm and keep out the wind.

At this time, unlike later apartment buildings, you didn't need to knock on the door.

People in every household became closer, and whoever came would simply open the door and come in.

Lin Chuan reached out and pulled open the door, which creaked open.

"Old Fang, I'm doing laundry, go see who's here?"

That's the voice of his teacher's wife, Wei Shue'e; she's always been very warm and welcoming.

Fang Cili came out of the inner room, holding a delicate little wooden carving in his hand, which was clearly something he was carving and hadn't finished yet.

He looked up, about to speak, but froze.

He hadn't seen Lin Chuan for so long, but no one knew that he thought about him every single moment.

He often went to inquire about his whereabouts.

He told himself that there was no need to care, since they had no relationship anymore, but he just couldn't help it.

He knew that Lin Chuan had opened a shop in the county town, and he also knew that the things Sun Xiangdong had taken a few days ago were gifts from Lin Chuan, so he asked Sun Xiangdong to take them back.

Fang Cili frowned. "Why are you here?"

Lin Chuan called out softly, "Master."

Fang Cili was furious. "I'm not your master. Get out! Get out of here!"

Upon hearing Fang Cili's angry outburst, Wei Shue quickly came out from inside.

She froze when she saw Lin Chuan, "Lin Chuan?"

Lin Chuan nodded, "Master's wife."

"What are you calling 'Master's Wife'? There's no Master's Wife here. Get out of here!" Fang Cili's anger intensified.

As he spoke, Fang Cili reached out and pushed the door open, intending to push Lin Chuan out.

Wei Shue hurriedly stopped him, "Old Fang, what are you doing? The child hasn't been here for so long."

Fang Cili retorted angrily, "Did I send him?"

"Master," Lin Chuan said hurriedly, "I've come to apologize to you. It was all my fault before."

"Your fault? You've never done anything wrong, you're very filial!"

At fifty years old, Fang Cili was still quite strong; in the time it took to speak, he pushed Lin Chuan out the door.

Then, he slammed the door shut.

Lin Chuan pursed his lips as he looked at the tightly closed door.

His master is still the same old man.

A cold wind blew by, and Lin Chuan tightened his scarf.

Less than two seconds later, the door opened again, and the meat he had brought was handed out through the crack in the door and placed at the entrance.
