Chapter 6 One hundred and twelve dollars and eight cents

The shopkeeper was taken aback. "You mean, if you sell it for one dollar, you'll give you two mao?"

Lin Chuan nodded, "Yes."

The shopkeeper stroked his chin, thinking to himself, "It's really too much for the young man in front of me to take two mao (0.2 yuan) from this one yuan."

Although the storefront is his own and he doesn't have to pay rent, the costs are still very high.

If the couple works together, they can still make a lot of money.

He sells for 100 yuan, and then gives 20 yuan to the person in front of him. He doesn't lose money, but he earns very little.

"Young man, your commission is a bit too much. If you don't want the ten yuan wage, I'll give you a one yuan and ten cents commission, how about that?" The boss started to bargain.

Lin Chuan definitely wouldn't do it for a single cent; he's really short of money right now.

Moreover, he firmly believed that as long as his noodles were sold, many people would come looking for them.

This is, after all, a county town, and near a hospital. Even if not everyone can afford the big meat noodles, the vegetarian noodles will definitely sell better.

"I'm sorry, boss, I'll do it for two cents, but not for one cent."

Just as Lin Chuan finished speaking, two people came in. "Boss, where is the boss? Two bowls of vegetarian noodles, please!"

The boss kicked a seventeen or eighteen-year-old boy who was vandalizing the kitchen, saying, "Go to the front and greet them."

Then he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Hey, I'm here, two bowls of vegetarian noodles!"

It's almost lunchtime.

The two people were clamoring for plain noodles, and a little while later, three more people came in and ordered three bowls of large meat noodles.

The boss was sweating profusely with anxiety.

He's really trying to cram at the last minute; he might as well close down and not do any business today.

If we don't do it today, these customers might not come back.

After thinking for a while, the shopkeeper made a tough decision, "Fine, two cents it is. Young man, don't ruin my reputation."

Lin Chuan laughed and said, "Boss, you're very generous. I promise I won't ruin your reputation. But I have a favor to ask you."

“Since we’re all here to work, don’t keep calling me ‘boss.’ My surname is Feng, and my name is Feng Liang. I’m definitely older than you, so just call me ‘brother.’” Feng Liang asked, “What’s up?”

"Brother Liang, my wife just gave birth. I brought ten eggs with me. Could you cook them here? Also, could you please have that young man from earlier deliver a bowl of chicken noodle soup and two bowls of pork noodles to the hospital?"

Feng Liang patted Lin Chuan on the shoulder, "I thought it was something serious. It's no big deal. It's fate that we met today. Forget about buying anything, the chicken soup noodles and braised pork noodles are a gift from your brother."

Lin Chuan said, "Brother Liang, no need for that. Business should be done the way it is. You've been so generous, we can't be sloppy, can we?"

Next, Feng Liang started rolling out the dough, while Lin Chuan cooked the noodles and prepared the broth.

In another pot on the stove, ten eggs were rolling around and quickly cooked.

Plain noodles and braised pork noodles were served to the front in no time.

Feng Liang handed out the noodles and saw the customer put them into his mouth.

"Hey boss, how did you make the soup today? It's so delicious! And the noodles are so fragrant, they smell amazing!"

Feng Liang wiped his sweat with a towel, beaming, "My brother's here to help out today, so eat as much as you like!"

Lin Chuan then prepared the chicken noodle soup and two other bowls of large meat noodles, along with ten boiled eggs, and handed them to Xiao Long. "Take these to ward 108 and find a girl named Xu Chunmai. Tell her to eat more. There's brown sugar in the basket under her bed, so don't be stingy. I'm working now and will be back later. Tell me clearly where I am and tell my dad to come find me immediately if anything happens."

Xiao Long seemed clever and quick-witted. "Brother Chuan, don't worry, I guarantee I'll complete the mission."

In his spare time, Lin Chuan prepared the meat, pork chops, and chicken with remarkable efficiency.

Feng Liang glanced at him for a moment, and Lin Chuan cut the meat into pieces with remarkable speed and precision, proving himself to be a skilled worker.

Then, Lin Chuan put the meat and pork ribs into a pot, while chicken soup was boiling on another stove.

"Start stewing it now, and it'll be ready to sell tonight."

Business was good at midday, and Lin Chuan and Feng Liang were busy working.

Many people who ate at Da Liang Noodle Shop went around telling everyone how delicious the noodles were.

This attracted even more people to come and eat noodles.

Seeing that the meat and chicken soup were empty, Feng Liang quickly went out and said, "We really don't have any meat left for lunch today, so we only have vegetarian noodles. I'm sorry everyone."

Upon hearing that only plain noodles were left, no one minded, and they said, "Then let's have plain noodles."

Normally, Feng Liang's noodle shop wouldn't sell this many noodles.

This time, the steaming hot vegetarian noodles sold over two hundred bowls, and the shop didn't get so crowded until after 2:30 pm.

Feng Liang's hands were almost broken from rolling out the dough.

"My goodness, Da Chuan, your skills are truly amazing. I've never sold this many since I opened this shop." Feng Liang leaned back in his chair. "I'm going to rest for a bit. I need to go to the grain station to get some noodles; we're running out. Da Chuan, can you keep an eye on the shop for me?"

Lin Chuan readily agreed, "Brother Liang, don't worry, I'll take care of things at the shop."

Around 4 o'clock, Lin Chuan's braised meat and pork chops, along with his chicken soup, were all ready.

That smell permeated the entire street.

Feng Liang carried the noodles in through the back door. "Good heavens, Da Chuan, the meat you braised smells amazing!"

Lin Chuan packed the meat and pork chops into separate bowls. "Brother Liang, to be honest, this is my specialty."

Feng Liang wiped his hands, picked up a large piece of meat and put it in his mouth, his eyes immediately lighting up.

The aroma of meat was truly irresistible, filling your mouth with a unique meaty fragrance. After taking a bite, you'd almost want to swallow your tongue.
