Chapter 96 An Unsentimental Woman

Jiang Xueying and Cao Meina squeezed through to take a look and saw that Lin Chuan had taken so many things, and he simply slapped a stack of ten-yuan bills on the ground.

Cao Meina covered her mouth, her eyes wide with surprise, "Xueying, it's actually Lin Chuan!"

Jiang Xueying saw it; it was Lin Chuan.

She hadn't seen Lin Chuan for a long time since she last went to see Mei Qu'er.

Jiang Xueying was heartbroken. Why was this kind of man already married?

Why can't such a man be her husband?

Is this the price she paid for looking down on others?

Lin Chuan bought the clothes, folded everything neatly, and put it into the large tote bag he had brought, but it was still too big to fit.

He packed everything up, put it on the donkey cart, and secured it with ropes.

Jiang Xueying and Cao Meina thought Lin Chuan was about to leave.

Unexpectedly, he then went into a silversmith shop next door.

Through the window, Jiang Xueying and Cao Meina saw that Lin Chuan had actually bought a silver bracelet.

With a smile, he wrapped up the silver bracelet, took the money, and then put the bracelet into his pocket.

I should have come to pick it up a long time ago, but I've been too busy. I finally got the silver bracelet in my hands.

The silversmith's craftsmanship was quite good, and Lin Chuan was very satisfied after seeing it.

As Lin Chuan came out of the silversmith's shop, he saw Jiang Xueying and Cao Meina standing there.

Before he could even greet her, Cao Meina walked up to him and said, "Lin Chuan."

Lin Chuan nodded slightly and walked towards his donkey cart.

Cao Meina caught up with him, "Lin Chuan, do you have time during the New Year? Can I come to your house to play?"

Lin Chuan frowned. "No, it's impossible."

Cao Meina pouted, then looked at him pitifully, "Lin Chuan, we are classmates after all. If we run into each other, it means we are destined to meet. Surely you're not afraid to let me meet your wife?"

Lin Chuan glanced at Cao Meina; sure enough, all women have something wrong with their brains.

"You're overthinking things. You want to see my wife? You're not worthy!"

After saying that, Lin Chuan strode away.

Jiang Xueying thought Cao Meina would be angry, but she wasn't.

"Xueying, tell me, how come I never noticed before that Lin Chuan is such a man? Didn't you think he looked so handsome and dashing just now?" Cao Meina looked at Lin Chuan's back as he sat on the donkey cart with delight. "Xueying, do you regret it now? If you had married Lin Chuan back then, he would be buying you things generously now."

As she spoke, Cao Meina slipped into the silversmith's shop. "Boss, what kind of bracelet did that man just buy?"

The shop owner greeted Cao Meina with a cheerful smile, "That one just now? It was a custom design made by that customer; it's engraved with ears of wheat."

Ears of wheat?

Jiang Xueying's hands were clenched tightly.

Xu Chunmai, wheat ears?

He was so good to his wife.

As they left the silversmith's shop, Cao Meina said, "We saw his wife once before at Chunmai Noodle Shop. She's alright-looking, I guess. But how can a man be so devoted to his wife?"

Jiang Xueying asked, "What do you want to do?"

Cao Meina laughed, "I didn't mean to do anything. Xueying, I'm not trying to criticize you, but you're too rigid. Otherwise, your ex-husband would have divorced you, wouldn't you have been so boring? What man doesn't like a woman who knows how to be sensible?"

Jiang Xueying felt uneasy, as if something was blocking her way.

She is a divorced woman; Cao Meina has never married.

They are truly different now.

When Lin Chuan returned to the noodle shop, Lin Qingyou and Lin Ping were surprised to find that he had bought so many clothes and shoes.

"Da Chuan, is this completely new inside and out?"

“New year, new look, of course everything should be new.” Lin Chuan unloaded the things from the car. “Big brother, you drive the car to take Mom, Dad and sister-in-law in a bit. Second brother, you two go back to the village first. You’ve all been so busy these days. I’ll stay here tonight.”

Lin Ping said, "Da Chuan, no need. Your sister-in-law is here too. You should go back tonight. You're even busier and more tired in Xuancheng. Go back and rest for a couple of days before coming back."

Sun Qiaoling chimed in, "Yes, Third Uncle, your older brother and I can stay here and we'll switch shifts."

Lin Chuan touched the silver bracelet in his pocket. "Alright, I'll come over tomorrow."

And so, before nightfall, Lin Chuan drove the donkey cart, taking Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei back to Yuquan Village.

Actually, Yuquan Village hasn't changed; what has changed are the people.

Lin Chuan felt that they hadn't changed, but the villagers felt that they had.

These days, they've been making inquiries. A man in his seventies who has retired and is still accompanied by armed bodyguards must have been a high-ranking officer in the military.

Now, the villagers regard Lin Qingyou as the son of a high-ranking official, which is truly remarkable.

There weren't many people outside in the winter, but everyone who saw them quickly greeted Lin Qingyou and his group.

Lin Youfu was chopping firewood in the yard when he saw Lin Chuan driving a donkey cart, taking Lin Qingyou and the others home.

He paused, his axe momentarily still.

If they hadn't treated Lin Chuan that way before, they would be the ones enjoying the good life now.

In just a few months, their lives have become like this.

His parents were arrested and are said to be awaiting sentencing; no one knows what the final outcome will be.

He looked at the axe in his hand; Lin Chuan used to chop all the firewood for the family.

When they got home, all the children gathered around them.

Lin Chuan took out all the new clothes he had bought for the children and began to distribute them. "Try on all the new clothes and shoes that your third uncle bought for you. See if they fit. If they don't fit, your third uncle will take them to exchange them tomorrow."

The children were overjoyed to be able to wear new clothes during the New Year.

"Thank you, Third Uncle."

Lin Chuan then handed Lin Wei new clothes and shoes, saying, "Second Brother, these are for you and Second Sister-in-law."

Liang Yun was very surprised, "There's one for me too?"

Lin Chuan smiled and said, "Second sister-in-law, our family members all have one; no one can be missing."

Liang Yun was deeply moved and overjoyed. "Thank you, Third Uncle."

"Second sister-in-law, there's no need to be so polite. We're all family."

After everyone else had finished distributing their items, Lin Chuan took out Lin Shuning's portion, saying, "This is for my precious eldest daughter."

Zheng Yumei took Lin Shuning's new clothes and shoes, and held her hand, "Come on, Shuning, let Grandma help you change, and see if you look pretty."

Lin Shuning happily followed Zheng Yumei to the west room, and Lin Qingyou even took Xiao Le'an off the kang (a heated brick bed).

Only Lin Chuan and Xu Chunmai remained in the east room.

Lin Chuan took out a handkerchief from his pocket, and Xu Chunmai was curious about what it was.

He unfolded the handkerchief layer by layer, revealing a silver bracelet lying in Lin Chuan's palm.

"Reach out your hand."

Xu Chunmai extended her right hand, and Lin Chuan put the silver bracelet on her wrist.

"It's so beautiful."

Xu Chunmai raised her arm and looked at herself, "Dachuan, these are ears of wheat."

“Yes, wheat ear.” Lin Chuan said, hugging Xu Chunmai’s waist from behind and burying his head between her neck, “Xu Chunmai’s wheat ear.”
