Lin Chuan saw Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei off and went straight to catch the bus back to Wangshan County.
After returning to Wangshan County, Lin Chuan called Fu Tongyuan to tell him that Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei had boarded the train, which train they were on, and what time they would arrive in Kyoto.
Fu Tongyuan was very happy. After his parents returned home, they thought about Lin Qingyou every day and said that they should have waited until the New Year to come back together.
The train slowly entered Kyoto at noon the next day.
Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei looked outside; the train had slowed down long ago and hadn't yet entered the train station.
Lin Qingyou exclaimed, "Damn, is Kyoto really that big?"
Zheng Yumei also stood up and looked outside. "Yes, Dad, is this a place we can stay?"
"Goodness, everyone talks about Kyoto, and now we've come to Kyoto too. This place is truly different," Lin Qingyou exclaimed. "Even if it's not a place we can stay in, we've come here. Didn't Da Chuan say that as long as we're convinced in our own hearts, we can come anywhere?"
The train finally stopped, and Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei got off with the flow of people.
Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei didn't know where to go, so they followed the crowd out.
Every now and then you can hear station staff shouting which way to go.
Zheng Yumei looked around and said, "Dad, we are both illiterate, which is really a disadvantage. There are so many places with writing on them, but we can't read them."
Lin Qingyou said, "Then let's learn to read in the future. It won't hurt to learn more."
The two of them walked out with the flow of people and finally got out of the station exit.
Fu Tongyuan drove over early to wait, and when he saw Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei, he quickly went to greet them.
"Qingyou, sister-in-law." He took the things from Zheng Yumei's hands and said, "You've finally arrived. Mom and Dad have been waiting anxiously. Knowing you would arrive at noon today, the whole family is here. In a little while, you can introduce my wife and two daughters to you."
Lin Qingyou knew that Fu Tongyuan had two daughters.
The eldest daughter, Fu Lingyun, is 25 years old this year. She just got married and hasn't had any children yet.
The youngest daughter, Fu Qingwei, is 21 years old and still in university; she hasn't graduated yet.
Lin Qingyou laughed and said, "Okay, okay, let's get to know each other."
Fu Tongyuan put everything away, and Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei also sat down.
He restarted the car. "My uncle and his two children are also coming. I'll see them in a bit."
Seeing so many people all at once made Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei nervous again.
Fu Tongyuan understood why they were nervous, after all, it was their first time traveling such a long distance.
“Qingyou, sister-in-law, don’t be nervous or think too much. Sometimes your uncle’s older brother and sister say things that aren’t very nice. If you hear anything, don’t take it to heart. After all, they don’t live with us, and they’re not our parents’ children. They’re just relatives, and sometimes we just go through the motions.”
Fu Tongyuan's words couldn't be clearer, and Lin Qingyou wasn't stupid either.
"Brother, don't worry, we know."
As they drove out of the train station, the various buildings and cars outside the car window were truly dazzling for Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei.
Fu Tongyuan said, "After the New Year, Da Chuan and the others will arrive, and I'll take you out for a good look around."
Lin Qingyou felt that the car was driving very fast, but by the time he actually got out of the car, a long time had passed.
He and Fu Tongyuan carried the things down and walked into the yard.
“My parents have always lived in this courtyard house. They have other houses, but they’re used to living here. They’ve been living here ever since they retired,” Fu Tongyuan explained to Lin Qingyou as they walked inside.
Lin Qingyou looked around. This was the courtyard house in Kyoto that Lin Chuan had told him about before he left.
The main room was bustling with people, and it looked very lively.
Fu Tongyuan opened the door. "Dad, Mom, I've brought Qingyou and my sister-in-law over."
Fu Qiming and Shen Jinshu rushed over to see.
Fu Qiming was very happy, but he didn't show it too much. He just reached out and patted Lin Qingyou on the shoulder.
Then he said to Zheng Yumei, "Yumei, you must be tired after such a long ride. Come on, sit down."
Shen Jinshu pulled Zheng Yumei's hand over, "Come over here."
"Qingyou, come here too."
Fu Qifeng's hand rested on his cane, and he didn't get up.
Fu Zhenghui and Fu Jiayuan, who were standing to the side, stood up.
Fu Zhenghui looked at Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei and smiled, "This must be Tongzhou and his wife. Hello, I am Fu Zhenghui, Tongzhou, your cousin."
As he spoke, he pointed to Fu Qifeng sitting to the side, "This is my father, Tongzhou, you should call him Uncle."
“This is my younger sister, Fu Jiayuan. She’s older than you, Tongzhou. She’s your cousin.”
Lin Qingyou knew that this was the uncle and his two children that Fu Tongyuan had mentioned.
"Hello, Uncle, hello, elder brother, hello, elder sister." Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei greeted each other in a very normal way.
Fu Tongyuan placed the basket and the dried sweet potatoes and peanuts that Zheng Yumei and the others had brought on the ground. "Qingyou, you and your sister-in-law brought so much stuff?"
Fu Qiming and Shen Jinshu looked over and saw that they were all good items.
Before Shen Jinshu could speak, Fu Jiayuan spoke first, "Tongyuan, why were you calling yourself Qingyou just now? Weren't you going to change your name?"
Fu Tongyuan pushed up his glasses. "We haven't changed it yet, have we? We're used to calling it that."
Fu Jiayuan laughed and said, "That's true. After all, it's a name that's been used for over forty years. Just like a person's habits and tendencies, it can't be changed just by changing clothes."
"Hey, Tongzhou, what's this you brought? It's all black, can we eat it?"
As she spoke, Fu Jiayuan covered her mouth and nose, looking disgusted.
Fu Tongyuan frowned.
Lin Qingyou didn't seem to care. "These are dried sweet potatoes. We grow them ourselves in our own fields, and we dry them ourselves after harvesting them. Sister, try them, they're very sweet."
Fu Jiayuan dodged to the side, saying, "I can't eat this stuff, I'm afraid I'll get diarrhea."
To put it bluntly, they just thought the things Lin Qingyou and his group brought weren't clean.
She dodged to the side, accidentally kicking the basket of eggs that Lin Qingyou and his group had brought.
The basket overturned on the ground, and several eggs rolled out and broke.
Fu Jiayuan said, "Tongzhou, why did you bring all this stuff from so far away? This is Kyoto, you can buy anything here, why did you need to bring these eggs from the countryside?"
"Enough!" Fu Qiming roared. "Jiayuan, stay if you want, leave if you don't. There's no place for you here!"
Fu Jiayuan looked dissatisfied but didn't dare to say anything more and sat down to the side.
Lin Qingyou and Zheng Yumei looked at the broken eggs on the ground, feeling heartbroken.
These are all good things, things we couldn't afford to eat before.
The two squatted down, wondering what to do. Fu Lingyun and Fu Qingwei each took a bowl and squatted down.
"Second Uncle, Second Aunt, the eggshell isn't dirty and is still edible, put it in the bowl."
