Chapter 25 Exposure

"Who said she didn't deliver packages?"

“The last time Liu Peng was complained about, it was because she went to deliver it on her own,” Zhang Xiaofu persisted.

"Really? Liu Peng, what's going on?" Yu Xingfa looked at Liu Peng, who was sorting the goods.

Everyone looked at Liu Peng.

Liu Peng was a little at a loss. He glanced at Xiang Jin, put down the package in his hand, dusted himself off, and walked up to Yu Xingfa: "Nothing of the sort, Mr. Yu. Xiang Jin did not violate any rules."

"Liu Peng, you're lying! That package was clearly—"

“It was my own fault for being late that led to the customer complaint.” Liu Peng’s gaze was firm, without any hesitation. “Mr. Yu, Xiang Jin usually performs very well and works very hard. She cleans the warehouse all by herself. I hope you won’t take your anger out on her because of some rumors.”

"Yes, Mr. Yu, Xiang Jin is very capable," Sister Ding chimed in.

"That's right. She usually helps us a lot, and she came up with this sorting technique."

Seeing that everyone was speaking up for Xiang Jin, Zhang Xiaofu became even angrier.

Zhang Xiaofu was the one who started working with everyone first, while Xiang Jin had only been there for a month or so. Now everyone is siding with her: "What do you all mean by this? Why are you all protecting her? She clearly did something wrong—"

"That's enough, let's not talk about this anymore. Everyone, let's get back to work." Yu Xingfa was a little unhappy. After saying that, he left the warehouse.

Zhang Xiaofu turned pale with anger.

She glared at Xiang Jin, wishing she could dig a hole in her face.

At noon, Xiang Jin ordered boxed lunches and treated everyone to a meal.

She couldn't find any mushy words to express her gratitude, so she used this method instead.

"Thank you everyone for speaking up for me, thank you." Xiang Jin wrote the note, feeling a little touched. She had thought she was going to be fired.

"I should be thanking you. You clearly can't drive, but you risked being fired to deliver my package. I was even angry with you before, I'm sorry." After his anger subsided, Liu Peng sincerely realized his mistake.

"I'm sorry, I caused you to get a complaint. I apologize."

"Well, it's not your fault. If I hadn't forgotten to deliver it, none of this would have happened."

"Alright, alright, stop thanking each other and apologizing to each other. Let's eat." Sister Ding put a piece of meat on Xiang Jin's plate.

"But what exactly happened with you going to jail?" Xie Fangfang, his colleague, couldn't help but ask curiously. "But it's okay if you don't want to talk about it."

Xiang Jin paused for a moment, then wrote: "Sorry."

She didn't want to talk about it because she wasn't driving the car or hitting the person, but she chose to take responsibility and ruined her own life. Such a decision is undeniably painful.

"It's alright, nobody really cares about this. They just don't know how to get along with you. From now on, just work hard here. If anyone dares to deliberately cause trouble, well, they'll see," Sister Ding stepped in to smooth things over.

"Thank you, but why is Zhang Xiaofu being so hostile?" I haven't offended her at all, and I often help her at work, so why is she being so confrontational?

They even exposed her in public, clearly trying to get rid of her.

"What else could it be? Jealousy, of course." Sister Ding gestured towards Guan Ming, who was not far away.

Xiang Jin suddenly realized.

It turns out that Zhang Xiaofu likes Guan Ming.

After finishing the Women's Day work, payday soon arrived. Although there was no commission, considering Xiang Jin's hard work and responsibility, Yu Xingfa gave her an extra 300 yuan, bringing her total to 2,800 yuan.

Xiang Jin was overjoyed after receiving her salary. She first went to the slum and gave Grandpa Liu 800 yuan.

Grandpa Liu refused to accept it no matter what.

“Girl, I collect scraps and make about a thousand yuan a month. You won’t starve. Keep the money for yourself. You have a long life ahead of you.”

Grandpa Liu has lost all his teeth and speaks with a lisp, but Xiang Jin feels that it is the warmest voice in the world.

She smiled and didn't write anything. Grandpa Liu was illiterate and couldn't understand sign language, but she knew he would understand what she meant.

When she was released from prison, if it weren't for Grandpa Liu saving her and taking her in, she probably would have died.

After leaving the slum, Xiang Jin went to the town again, bought many bags of things, and then headed towards Fengjia Village.

"Jianian, come here." After dinner, Feng Jianian had been taking phone calls outside. After he finished, Xiang Jin pulled him into the living room and pointed to the foot basin in front of him.

The water in the foot basin was dark and smelled of Chinese medicine.

"What's this."

Xiang Jin pulled him down to sit, took off his shoes, put his feet in them, and then took out two medicine packets from a bag and placed them on his knees.

"Apply the medicine to your knees and soak your feet in the medicine every night, and you'll see improvement in half a month." She wrote, her expression serious. "Don't slack off, I'll keep an eye on you."

“Aqi…”

His throat tightened slightly. So she had always remembered this; she had truly cared about him.

Aside from his adoptive parents, she was the only person who cared for him so much.

"Yes, I'll listen to Aqi." He gently cupped her face, looking into her cunning yet innocent fox-like eyes.

Meeting his gaze, Xiang Jin felt a jolt, as if she'd been electrocuted. She quickly changed the subject, looking down as she wrote on a note: "By the way, are you free tomorrow?"

Tomorrow is Saturday.

Su Ming had told him about it; it seemed to be two international conferences, a high-level meeting, and a celebrity dinner in the evening.

But without thinking, he replied, "I'm free, what's up?"

Her smile was warm and radiant: "Then let's go shopping."

Early in the morning, Su Ming received a notification from the BOSS, instructing him to cancel all of today's agenda items.

Su Ming was in a bit of a dilemma. One of the meetings was one he had worked hard to arrange, and the attendees were all very important figures. To cancel it just like that...

"Boss, do you have other important plans?" Su Ming probed tactfully.

"shop."

Go shopping...?

Su Ming felt like he'd been struck by lightning. When did the BOSS develop this hobby? Didn't he hate being in crowds?

However, in order to serve his boss well, Su Ming still drove to Fengjia Village early in the morning, hoping to pick up his boss to go shopping.

Then--

He watched as his boss got on that old bicycle, carrying his young wife, and sped off into the city.

Su Ming felt as if another bolt of lightning had struck him.

……………………

“Jianian, if you’re tired, I’ll ride.” Xiang Jin wrote a note, slipped his hand under Jianian’s waist, and showed it to him.

"Aqi, instead of worrying about these things, you might as well hold me tighter." He casually shook the bicycle, and Xiang Jin was startled, quickly grabbing his waist.

Feeling her touch, the man felt inexplicably pleased, and the corners of his lips turned up.
