Chapter 30 The Unexpected Answer

Just then, Xiang Jin's phone rang. It was an unfamiliar number. She hesitated for a moment, then pressed the answer button.

"Ah Jin, please save me! For the sake of our friendship, please plead with Boss Xiao for me. I don't want to lose this job, and I definitely don't want to go to Africa." It was Lin Miaomiao on the other end of the phone.

Xiang Jin's expression instantly turned cold.

She was completely heartbroken over this friend; how could she even have the nerve to plead for her?

"Ah Jin, you can't just stand by and watch someone die. We've been roommates for so many years, you can't be so heartless," Lin Miaomiao said firmly.

Xiang Jin smiled faintly and hung up the phone.

When she was being bullied, she showed no mercy; now she has no right to plead for mercy.

Wait a minute, she seems to have overlooked something—

She opened her phone and texted Lin Miaomiao: "Master Xiao? Murong Xiao transferred you to Africa?"

"Otherwise what?"

"Xiang Jin, what are you pretending for now? Master Xiao has already said you're his woman, how could that be false? You didn't know that your classmates were retaliated against last night?" Lin Miaomiao seemed a little sour. Did someone like Xiang Jin deserve Murong Xiao to stand up for her?

However, compared to the experiences of other classmates, my situation is considered good. I heard that Jiang Zhiqiang was beaten and crippled in prison, his genitals are damaged, he will never be able to have children again, and he may even be sentenced to prison.

Xiang Jin stared blankly at the contents, momentarily stunned.

She's one of Murong Xiao's people? And Murong Xiao even stood up for her?

How is that possible!

"I have nothing to do with Murong Xiao. Your predicament is your own fault. I will not help you." She replied quickly.

"Would it be false if Master Xiao said it himself? Xiang Jin, I didn't realize you were so cunning. You're just playing the victim in front of us to get us retaliated against, aren't you? You're still the same as before, despicable and hypocritical."

Xiang Jin didn't reply to her. She stared blankly at those words, her mind completely blank.

Murong Xiao said it himself: She is his woman?

Impossible, absolutely impossible!

As Xiang Jin was lost in thought, the door to the ward was suddenly pushed open, and Murong Xiao walked in.

"You're awake? Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat?" His tone was gentle, completely unlike his usual sharp and cold demeanor.

Xiang Jin was stunned.

Why is he here? Didn't he leave after bringing her to the hospital? Or did he stay the whole time?

Murong Xiao sat down on the sofa opposite her, his usual lazy yet sharp demeanor exuding an imposing aura. After bringing her to the hospital yesterday, he forgot to change back into Feng Jianian's appearance, but he would have to meet her with this face sooner or later, so it wouldn't hurt to get used to it sooner.

However, she seemed to be in a bad state.

Upon seeing him, she seemed quite surprised, clutching the blanket tightly with both hands, her fox-like eyes revealing fear, and her forehead covered in fine sweat.

He knew that this was how she was when she was nervous.

Is she afraid of him?

Murong Xiao frowned.

"You know me?" Last night, she could have asked someone else for help, but she chose him without hesitation. Knowing her as he did, he knew she wouldn't have been so decisive unless she knew him well.

Xiang Jin paused for a moment, nodded, and slowly took out a sticky note and wrote: "We went to the same middle school."

"Oh?" Murong Xiao raised an eyebrow. He hadn't expected that they had this connection.

Neither of them spoke, and the ward fell silent once again.

With trembling hands, Xiang Jin wrote on the paper: "Thank you."

"You're welcome." He leaned back lazily, looking at her with a slightly deeper gaze.

Xiang Jin felt uneasy under his gaze.

"I heard...you're the one who punished those people?" His palms were sweating as he gripped the pen, remembering what Lin Miaomiao had just said. In his haste, he wrote it down. "Why?"

If it really was him who did it, what was his position that made him willing to go to such great lengths to help her?

"oh?"

The man's voice rose slightly, revealing neither joy nor anger: "Do you think I have that much free time?"

Of course not.

As a man of great stature, Murong Xiao would certainly not be so idle as to help a stranger. This was something she had already considered, but hearing it from his mouth was still somewhat heartbreaking.

But she still had doubts, so she subconsciously wrote it down: "Then why did you tell them that I am your...person?"

As she wrote the rest, her face flushed red with embarrassment, and she regretted that she had written it so quickly.

She didn't dare to look up at him.

"What are you expecting?" He chuckled lightly, carefully observing her reaction. "It was just something I said casually when I saved you. Do you really think I'm interested in you?"

The heat on my face quickly cooled down.

Yes, he could never possibly be interested in her. It was just a casual remark; he meant nothing by it. Why should she shamelessly care?

"I wouldn't dare. But I'm married now, and I'm afraid there might be misunderstandings. It's best to explain things clearly." She wrote quickly.

Murong Xiao looked at her handwriting but said nothing more. He glanced at his watch, then slowly stood up: "You can be discharged now. Hurry up and get dressed; I'll take you home."

Send...send her back?!

Xiang Jin was stunned once again.

Even after sitting in the passenger seat, Xiang Jin still felt a dreamlike sense of unreality.

It wasn't that she had never ridden in a luxury car before, but that she had never been so close to Murong Xiao. She was reserved and nervous.

She had intended to refuse him, but after being discharged from the hospital, she handed him the note she had written, and he didn't even look at it.

“Seatbelt,” he commanded her.

Xiang Jin was too nervous to hear him at all. He frowned, then suddenly leaned over, grabbed the seatbelt, and slowly fastened it into the buckle.

His breath brushed against the tip of her nose, and his cool palm caressed the back of her hand.

The moment their skin touched, Xiang Jin suffocated.

My mind went completely blank.

"Th...thank you." She wrote on the note, her palms sweaty.

The car drove towards Fengjia Village.

She couldn't speak, and he remained silent, creating an eerie atmosphere that made her feel suffocated several times.

"You... love your husband very much?" For the sake of the penniless Feng Jianian, she tried to clarify the so-called misunderstanding in front of Murong Xiao.

Xiang Jin, who was in a state of short circuit, didn't think about why he would ask this question, and simply wrote: "Just living life."

"Living a simple life?" His tone suddenly turned cold.

"He's good to me, and I'm good to him, that's enough. As for whether I love him or not, I've never thought about it, and I don't care." She wrote on the note.

It's already a blessing that they can live together; she can't expect anything more. Jia Nian is a good man, and he deserves a better woman.

The man looked at the contents of the note, a slight smirk playing on his lips.

I never thought about it, and I don't care.

It was an unexpected answer.

But why was he so angry? It was like an unnamed fire burning in his chest, unable to rise or fall, unbearable and unventable, causing him extreme discomfort.
