Chapter 7 Rumors Cannot Be Believed

"Okay, okay, I'll get out, I'll get out." Ying Jianming scrambled out of the bedroom, tripping as he went out and falling face-first into the mud.

The surroundings fell silent instantly.

The room was dark and the lights were off. Xiang Jin couldn't see the man's face clearly, but she could sense his figure. He was very tall and upright, and his skin seemed quite fair.

Neither of them spoke.

The man seemed to be observing her.

Xiang Jin silently got out of bed, took out the drawing board and highlighter she had bought, and wrote: "Are you Feng Jianian?"

"Hmm." The man stood there, still in that scrutinizing posture, as if observing her reaction.

"Are you sure?" She had never met Feng Jianian before, but he had easily taken down two burly men, which was nothing like the rumors that he was a dying man.

The man seemed to pause for a moment, then sneered: "What's the point of a short-lived, penniless wretch pretending?"

Xiang Jin thought about it and agreed.

"I'll cook. What would you like to eat?" She wrote quickly.

"You're going to cook for me?" The man raised his voice, seemingly a little surprised.

"Yes, is there something wrong?"

"It's nothing." He seemed to smile slightly.

Xiang Jin took it as tacit agreement and turned to walk towards the kitchen. Murong Xiao watched her back with a somewhat amused expression.

She's more of a show-off than I imagined; she even cooks for him.

In his memory, no one had ever done anything for him except his adoptive parents. This strange feeling made him even more interested in the woman in front of him.

He turned around and began to look around the bedroom.

I haven't been back for a few days, and the place has changed a lot. The house is cleaner and tidier, the wardrobe is neatly organized, and even the bright red wedding quilt on the bed looks much better. The whole room is filled with a strange warmth.

It seems that even without him, she is living her life earnestly.

The man chuckled, then suddenly remembered something, grabbed two sets of worn-out clothes to change into, pulled out a pair of black-rimmed glasses and put them on, and messed up his hair a bit.

My dad used to be an opera singer, and he taught me a lot of amazing makeup and costume skills, and left me with a lot of equipment.

He opened the equipment box, picked out two moles and stuck them on his face, darkened his face a bit, and then outlined his features, instantly transforming himself.

Now, he was no longer the handsome and dashing Murong Xiao, but the plain-looking Feng Jianian.

He looked at the person in the mirror with satisfaction. This was exactly how it should be; it made the game more fun.

Just then, the aroma of food wafted from the kitchen.

Murong Xiao entered the living room, where a plate of shredded green peppers and potatoes and a vegetable and tofu soup were placed on the coffee table. The soup was bland and contained no minced meat.

"I just made something quick, please make do with it." She wrote on the drawing board, then looked up and paused for a moment.

This was the first time she had seen Feng Jianian. Although he was rather plain-looking and a little thin, he was still quite decent-looking, but there were no signs of any health problems.

"What, am I ugly?" he asked.

Xiang Jin quickly shook his head and wrote with a pen: "No, I just think rumors can't be believed."

"Really? I think the rumors are quite true. People say the Xiang family's daughter is very beautiful, and it's true." Although she couldn't speak, her fox-like eyes, her aloof face, and her subtle, defiant spirit were all quite to his liking.

Xiang Jin was startled.

What does he mean by that? Does he realize she's an imposter?

That's not right. She has always followed Xiang Qi's makeup habits. If it weren't for close relatives, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference. How did he figure it out?

While Xiang Jin was still feeling guilty, the man took the bowl and chopsticks from her hands and began to eat.

Xiang Jin finally breathed a sigh of relief.

It seems he didn't doubt her at all; that last sentence was just a casual remark, and she was being too sensitive.

In fact, Murong Xiao had already eaten, but it had been many years since anyone had cooked for him, which made him slightly interested in this bland and watery meal.

Gradually, he started waving his chopsticks more and more frequently.

The seemingly plain shredded potatoes are exceptionally crisp and refreshing; the seemingly bland tofu soup has an extremely pleasant aroma and umami flavor.

It was surprisingly delicious.

"You're thin, eat more." Seeing that he liked it, she gave him the rest of the shredded potatoes and served him a bowl of soup.

"Are you concerned about me?" The man seemed somewhat surprised.

“Yes,” she wrote.

After the meal, Xiang Jin washed the dishes and chopsticks, then carried a medicine box to Murong Xiao.

She pointed to the wound on his right hand, and then to the medicine box.

Murong Xiao then noticed that there was a cut on the back of his hand that was still bleeding, probably from an accidental scratch when he was hitting Ying Jianming.

"Are you going to apply the medicine for me?"

Xiang Jin nodded, pulled his hand in front of her, and the man seemed to resist, pulling his hand back, but she held it tightly. She first disinfected it with alcohol, then applied ointment, and then put on a band-aid.

The whole process was gentle and meticulous, and he didn't hurt at all.

"Why are you so good to me?" Looking at her serious expression with her head down, he thought of his adoptive parents again. They used to apply medicine to him in the same way, with such careful movements, as if afraid of hurting him, even though he wasn't that afraid of pain.

He hasn't felt that warmth since they passed away.

And now, the woman in front of him has given him that feeling again.

why is that?

Hearing his question, Xiang Jin smiled but didn't say anything.

He saved her first, and that's how she came to trust him. That's just how she is; if someone treats her well, she wants to repay them tenfold.

After applying the medicine, Xiang Jin went to wash up. When she came out, the man had already changed into his pajamas and was lying on the bed in the master bedroom reading a magazine.

Xiang Jin paused for a moment before reluctantly walking in, writing somewhat awkwardly, "You...aren't you leaving tonight?"

“My home is right here, why should I leave?” He raised an eyebrow at her.

Xiang Jin blushed instantly. She hadn't expected him to stay, so she was caught off guard, but she couldn't kick him out, after all, this was his home...

"Then... I'll sleep in the second bedroom." She turned around awkwardly, preparing to leave the master bedroom.

"What, you want separate rooms right after getting married? Or are you looking down on me, a poor wretch, and that's why you're unhappy?" His cold voice rang out from behind.

Now Xiang Jin was in a dilemma, unsure whether to leave or stay.

After a while, she took a deep breath, mustered her courage, walked to the bedside, lifted the blanket, and lay down next to him.

Now it was Murong Xiao's turn to be stunned.

"Why did you suddenly stop leaving?" He had only wanted to test her reaction, thinking she would give him a hard time and go to the second bedroom, but to his surprise, she obediently came back.

A pleasant masculine scent wafted into Xiang Jin's nostrils and lingered in her mind.

She carefully moved to the side, avoiding the man's gaze, and wrote with her head down: "It's nothing. We are already husband and wife. Since it's going to happen sooner or later, we might as well exercise our rights sooner."
