Li Aili put down her cutlery. "Honey, come out for a bit, let's talk."
The Duke let out a barely perceptible sigh of relief.
Li Ai Li lifted her skirt and walked out of the restaurant. As the Duke passed Conrad, he lowered his voice and said coldly:
"Take the remaining 'stew' to the underground dungeon and feed it to the assassins we've captured these past few days."
The butler smiled slightly. "That's a good idea, sir."
Next to the restaurant in the south wing of the castle is a lounge of moderate size.
Arthur Cold Jade followed a step later, casually closing the door behind him, and raised his hand to turn on the magic lamp inside.
Then Li Aili asked, "Are you going to the Papal Court?"
Arthur paused in his action of turning on the light.
The hazy moonlight shone through the glass window, and Li Aili could only vaguely make out the outline of the man's figure, unable to discern his expression.
Li Aili heard him give a faint "hmm," without any intention of going into details.
Li Aili stared at the Duke's figure. "That's the Papal Court."
Arthur seemed to be taken aback.
Li Aili waited for a long time, but he did not respond.
“There isn’t a single Duke of Pomegranates there to cover for you, but there are countless Holy Knights of Light there…” She finished speaking in one breath, feeling an unbearable tightness in her chest.
She took a deep breath and questioned the silent man, "Arthur Cold Jade, are you insane?"
Having grown accustomed to the darkness, Li Aili seemed to be able to see the man's deep blue eyes, staring at her intently.
"Ellie... I'm sorry, I can't tell you anything right now."
Every time she heard the same sentence, Li Aili felt a sense of powerlessness spread throughout her body.
This man, she could see him, she could touch him, but there was always a deep barrier between them.
Why did she choose to trust, but the Duke always avoided the Alchemy Room?
Why does he always hide so many things from himself?
Does he... really like me?
Li Aili felt these problems piling up in her chest, the aching and swelling becoming so intense that her heart could hardly bear it...
Until the last thought popped into her head, Li Aili could hardly contain herself and blurted out the question.
"Arthur, do you really like me?" She couldn't help but doubt, doubting the sweetness of their past relationship.
She had never longed to hear the Duke's thoughts as much as she did now.
If she could see... if she could see, she wouldn't be so anxious.
The next second, she felt as if she had been pounced on by some large beast, lost her balance, and fell directly to the ground.
A large hand landed on the back of her head. She didn't hit it, but Li Aili was startled.
Arthur pinned Li Aili down.
By the faint silvery glow of the moonlight, Li Aili could see the eyes looking at her, filled with anger mixed with a sorrow she couldn't understand.
“Don’t doubt me.” He said this almost in a commanding tone.
“Li Aili, anyone can hate me, despise me, curse me.” He gently stroked Li Aili’s loose golden hair with his cool fingertips.
"But, in this world, it's not enough for just you."
"Only you cannot hate me, despise me, or doubt me."
'Thump, thump, thump thump,' Li Aili could clearly feel her heart beating faster and faster.
The Duke only spoke to Li Aili in this manner when they first met after she transmigrated to this world.
A commanding tone that is condescending and leaves no room for argument.
The room was so quiet that even the sound of breathing was so clear; neither of them spoke.
Until Arthur lowered his head, seemingly wanting to kiss Ellie.
Ellie turned her head to the side, and the kiss landed on her cheek.
Duke: "..."
He silently sat up and reached out to help Li Aili up.
Li Aili propped herself up and sat up, ignoring the man.
The Duke's breathing seemed to pick up a little harder as he forcefully and decisively pulled Li Aili up.
Li Aili said nothing and went straight back to the south-facing bedroom where she had initially stayed.
However, upon opening the door, the luxurious bedroom was completely empty, with no sign of a bed.
Li Aili: "..."
She had a premonition that, apart from the scoundrel's master bedroom, there probably wouldn't be a single intact bed to be found in Constantinople today.
hehe.
Li Aili silently took out a spatial scroll from her spatial ring, drank a bottle of Holy Light Potion, and wrote down the coordinates of Tankar Forest.
Then, the scroll was torn off, and as a result, the portal did not appear.
Li Aili: "…………"
What a scumbag!
Li Aili was so angry that she paced around the room with her hands on her hips.
"ha!"
"That's why I've always said not to be in a relationship!"
Li Aili was so angry that she simply took out a bottle of 'forced calming potion' and gulped it down.
I calmed down instantly, and all my anger dissipated.
The potion lived up to its name; Li Aili felt her brain, which had been clouded by anger, instantly calm down and clear.
Her perspective seemed detached from subjectivity, and she reviewed the previous argument in a very 'wise' manner.
"There are actually a lot of problems between us, but we were still in the honeymoon phase before."
“We are both figuring out how to get along with each other,” she said to herself.
Under the influence of the drug, Li Aili paused, frowned slightly, thought for a moment, and then calmly changed her words:
"I'm probably the one figuring out how to get along with him."
"The way he acted from beginning to end was that he was cooperating with me."
This puzzled Li Aili, so she walked to the remaining dressing table in the room.
