With the spider's gaze no longer on the temple, Li Aili immediately made the decision to begin the operation.
First, Arthur sent out his henchmen—no, his Shadowfiends—to search for Charleson.
Soon, the Shadow Demons, who had quietly turned the Spider Temple upside down, returned.
Arthur ended his conversation with Shadow Fiend. "They didn't find it."
"How could this be?!" Wendy Shani suddenly stood up from her seat.
But because of the invisibility potion, she could only frantically circle around in the direction from which the sound came.
Finally, she looked at Leslie with a hint of despair.
"Leslie...could it be that we're...a step too late?"
Leslie seemed thoughtful. "Your Grace, could you please..."
“…Your subordinate, search for Assange.” Leslie’s face contorted for a moment when he said the word “your subordinate.”
That was a Shadow Fiend from the Abyss. He didn't even dare to think too deeply about why a Shadow Fiend from the Abyss would appear in the shadow of a human duke.
Wendy Shane: "?" Wait! Why are we going to see Assange??
The Duke did not reply, but countless Shadow Fiends once again swarmed out.
However, this time, the Shadow Fiends returned much faster.
The Duke, in stealth mode, silently communicated with his subordinates for a moment.
Then, with a creak, the door was pushed open.
The Duke coldly said to the two wood elves, "Assange has been found. Let's go."
A black 'shadow snake' frolicked along the ground, leading the way for its invisible master and mistress.
Its eagerness was just like that of a dog wagging its tail.
The invisibility potion allowed for unimpeded movement within the temple, where the 'spider gaze' was absent.
Having narrowly missed the temple guards for the 19th time, Leslie had gone from being nervous at the beginning to being completely numb.
The Shadow Fiend finally stopped in front of a magnificent palace.
Layer upon layer of temple guards surrounded the palace, making it completely impenetrable.
You'd think this temple held some great treasure if you didn't know better.
The Duke, having run out of patience, didn't hesitate and went straight for Shadow Fiend.
Soon, the heavily armed temple guards at the temple entrance were all turned into 'wooden stakes'.
The two guards at the gate, like puppets on strings, stiffly pushed open the temple doors.
After the group filed in, the two 'puppets' closed the door again.
"Who is it?" Assange's voice came from inside the temple after the door opened.
The voice was low and deep, in short, flamboyant.
But those who knew Assange well were all furious.
This bastard, he's about to die, and he still dares to hang around doing drow priesthood here!
Leslie couldn't take it anymore and barged into the inner sanctum.
Inside the inner hall, several handsome men with veils covering their faces were serving Assange, who was lounging lazily on a soft couch, some carrying fruit platters and others fanning him.
"Your Grace, I beg you." Leslie's fist hardened.
They saw no one, but suddenly a voice appeared. Several drow servants looked panicked, but they were quickly controlled by the Shadow Fiend released by Arthur and turned into wooden 'puppets'.
Upon hearing the familiar voice, Assange jumped up in surprise, "Leslie?!"
"Oh! My captain! I knew it..." Before he could finish his flattery, Leslie kicked him in the face.
Li Aili saw Assange, dressed in a flashy black silk robe, being trampled on a soft surface, his face distorted by the weight.
"Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!" Assange struggled to explain, "Captain, Captain, please believe me, I don't want to be caught and brought back..."
"Spare me, Captain! If you accidentally kill me now, who will repay the debt I owe you?" Assange pleaded.
The Spider Temple is not the place to settle scores.
Leslie took a deep breath and picked up Assange. "Alright, although I don't know why it's Assange on this side, the one on the other side should be Charles."
"Let's go quickly." Not knowing when the Spider Queen would turn her attention here, Leslie prepared to run away after rescuing the people.
Assange nodded frantically, "Yes, yes, the priests here are too enthusiastic. To be honest, I can hardly stand it."
Thinking of the odd number of temple guards outside his temple, Leslie, who knew their temperament well, began to twitch.
"Don't tell me you've offended all the temple priests here."
Assange innocently said, "Otherwise, how can I survive? Only if they fight each other can I keep my life and wait for you to come and save me."
Leslie: "..."
Leslie closed her eyes.
The first word he uttered upon opening his eyes was, "Run!"
Li Aili said, "In a few days, it will be the spider sacrifice again. If we leave, the tragedy of that merchant girl and her lover will be repeated."
Leslie: "..."
Recalling their previous adventures together, Leslie's tone held a hint of desperation, "You...didn't you say before that we should avoid conflict with the Spider Queen...?"
Li Aili nodded seriously, "So, we won't confront them head-on."
Leslie: "..."
Leslie: "…………"
Li Aili said, "We'll be the masterminds this time."
Assange was completely confused. "Wait, my dear teammates, aren't you here to rescue me?"
Li Aili looked at the bewildered Assange and said, "Indeed, but we also need to take care of a few minor issues along the way."
Assange: "?"
Li Aili: "So, since you've been 'surviving against all odds' among countless drow priests for so long..."
"Then hang in there a little longer, 'ladies'."
Assange: "???"
