Chapter Fifty-Four: The Mysterious Guest

With less than two hours left until sunrise, she had to find where the remaining mushrooms were hidden before sunrise.

Li Aili left the alchemy room.

After searching the room, they found a magical item.

For a while, Arthur would give her small gifts every now and then, all sorts of things.

She hesitated for a long time before finally giving his medicine order a 9.9% discount.

Then, Arthur was indeed very satisfied with the result and never gave her any more gifts.

Li Aili brought out a small box full of gifts and pulled out a magical item from it.

"I've got it! This is it!"

These are two magic crystal balls.

Li Aili entered the alchemy room, went straight to the back garden, placed a magic crystal ball there, and then left immediately.

She sat on the bed in the bedroom, staring at the crystal ball in her hand.

The crystal ball revealed a deserted back garden.

There, on the ground, grew a variety of very pale-colored small mushrooms. These mushrooms could run and jump; it was simply... amazing.

Li Aili: "..." Not only can the mushroom turn invisible, but it can also run and jump. How the hell am I supposed to catch it??

In the dead of night, Li Aili spent half an hour moving all the mousetraps she could find in the castle to her room.

Then, with dark circles under her eyes, Li Aili made three trips before finally managing to move all the mousetraps into the alchemy room.

She was like a Tom driven mad by Jerry, setting up over a hundred mousetraps all over the backyard.

Then, he gave a sinister smile at the seemingly empty back garden and left the alchemy house.

Back in her room, Li Aili immediately picked up the magic crystal ball to observe, and saw the mousetraps set up in the back garden of the alchemy house being triggered with a 'clatter'.

Unconsciously, she seemed to hear the screams of a group of mushrooms.

Hehehehe~~~~

Hearing the Duchess's eerie laughter coming from inside the room, the maid passing by shuddered and quickened her pace to run away.

...

The next day, only Li Aili, with dark circles under her eyes, was at the cozy little table in the restaurant.

She listlessly poked at the roasted mushrooms on the plate.

Today's breakfast side dish is roasted mushrooms with black pepper.

Mrs. Catherine kept a blank face as always.

Conrad asked considerately, "Is this dish not to your liking?"

Li Aili shook her head. "I looked at too many mushrooms last night. I don't really want to see them again today."

The housekeeper thoughtfully removed the roasted mushrooms from in front of her and soon replaced them with a refreshing vegetable salad.

"You look like you didn't get enough rest last night."

Li Aili thanked him, then said expressionlessly, "I had nightmares in the first half of the night, and spent the second half 'rescuing' the mushrooms from the mousetraps."

Conrad: "..."

"It sounds...very rich."

"But human girls should still get a good rest at night."

Li Aili found the old housekeeper's words very witty, "'Human girl,' haha."

"Of course, if there are any things that must be done, you can instruct the maids. If you find them clumsy, you can also send me and Catherine."

"As you know, people our age don't sleep much."

Li Aili quickly waved her hand, "No need, no need, it's just a one-time thing for me."

The dining table was rather deserted today; the Duke seemed to still be in the underground dungeon…

So, while eating breakfast, she thought about her schedule for the day.

The research on those three new mushrooms can be postponed for a while.

During her time in Nanjun, the minotaurs, without their 'overseer,' have gotten into all sorts of trouble that she'll have to clean up.

There's also Jasmine, so I need to check if she's made any progress in making [Healing Potions] before I can teach her the new alchemy recipe.

Of course, there's also the eldest disciple, who's full of rebellious tendencies; I wonder how well he's reflected on his actions.

If all else fails, send him to South County and let Brandon train him.

Referring to the housekeeper who teeters on the brink of collapse every day, Li Aili believes that Brandon is a professional when it comes to tormenting (scratch that) people, and disciplining them.

After planning her day's schedule, Li Aili put down her knife and fork, having only eaten half of the food in front of her.

She instinctively pushed the plate towards Arthur's seat.

Then, embarrassingly, I realized that this person had "mysteriously disappeared."

"Is he still down there?" Li Aili asked, pretending not to care.

Conrad sighed. "It's still here, it hasn't come up yet."

Li Aili frowned slightly. "They haven't come out yet?"

Conrad nodded silently.

Li Aili frowned. "I'll go call him."

Catherine spoke curtly, "The master doesn't want to be disturbed."

Li Aili paused in her steps.

Conrad scolded, "Catherine."

Catherine returned the gaze coldly, "Conrad, what the master needs is obedience and loyalty."

"You're too quick to make decisions."

Li Aili felt a little embarrassed, and shrugged indifferently, saying, "I suddenly remembered that I still need to go to the central city, so I'll be going now."

She smiled slightly at Conrad, who seemed hesitant to speak, and then quickened her pace to leave the castle.

Sitting in the carriage, Li Aili looked at the scenery outside the window and realized that she was worrying about things that weren't her business.

Ha, other people have so many gold coins in their vaults that they could bury ten dragons, while she still has to struggle to raise money for the future development of her territory.

They're getting paid like workers but worrying like bosses.

Tsk.

Therefore, it's really hard for people to control their sense of distance.

When someone is nice to you, you can't help but reciprocate with two things in return.
